If Torna is any sort of indication, that's not going to happen. There's likely going to be the same old lighthearted moments, and cute female characters, but it won't be an intentionally lighthearted game. He's probably gotten all of that out of his system when making XC2. So yeah, something like Torna, or XB1D would be nice

I kind of want the opposite. I didn't hate the anime aspects of XC2, and I do think it's a good game, but XC1 and XCX are overall better. There are plenty of other JRPGs that can focus on cute girls.

Truthfully, Takahashi said he gets bored of the same thing twice, so we're likely jumping from the more story driven titles like 2, and on to another exploration game, like X. Either that, or that fantasy project. We'll see.

I wonder if people who genuinely played XC2 for the shit you posted, and expect the Xeno series to be exactly like this as time progresses will be hurt if it deviates away from this. We'll likely still get some humorous moments as with the rest of the series, but it'll easily jump to more serious plots. That's what I assume, judging by Torna.

All 3 Xenoblade have been great, 10/10 for me, and all very different from each other, specially X, so they can do whatever they want for the next game, I'm sure I'll love it too.

Engine issue, mostly. If XBX was made today with the same designs, they'd probably look similar to Shulk, Fiora, or Kosmos from XB2. Tanaka designed those as well.
