do you remember holding this in your hand for the first time? do you remember how it smelled, how the shiney box made you feel excited?
Do you remember holding this in your hand for the first time? do you remember how it smelled...
Pokemon blows...play a real game, faggot
Oh fuck my childhood
i don't play pokemon anymore. but as a child it was extremely exciting to play it.
I remember the first time holding my Pokemon Red game because of how happy I was but I wasn't a degenerate yet at the time to smell the box.
I still remember the way the Gold and Silver boxes smelled.
>older brother got a gameboy color and pokemon blue for his birthday
>he took out the game and manual, and threw the box into the stove
This triggered my autism long before I cared about resell value. At least I still have our Gold, Silver, Ruby, and Emerald boxes.
Yes
There's a Big Lots in what used to be the Circuit City where I first got it as a child.
When I'm in my home town, sometimes I go and stand where the video game section used to be and remember.
Do the same with the Jimmy Johns that used to be Blockbuster
I honestly don't know if I got any of the Gen 1 games in box, my memory fails me on that one. I know for sure I got Blue used though. I got Gold in the box, I know because it was at Wal-Mart in an endcap for $20 and that was when I successfully convinced my mom to buy it for me. Don't remember holding or smelling the box though, just remember playing the game inside.
>played it on the Pokemon Bus 2 months before release when I was 11
>told my parents I'd do anything to get this game
>made a promise that I learn all past tense forms since English is my second language for an upcoming test to get the game
>despite being really bad in English somehow manage to do just that
>parents buy me the game and I even made my one and only A in an English test
I wish there were more moments like that to motivate me.
the red and blue box wasn't shiny. the gold and silver boxes were though.
Don't remember R&B but these did just fine back to me so maybe I will later as I'm getting so fucking old.
I got Yellow at a bizarre McDonald's birthday party.
I remember Silver and Gold because I got them together on my Birthday.
I ran to my uncle saying how happy I was I got Silver, he frustratingly said "oh..." Turned around, got in his car and drove off and came back with Gold.
EXCUSE ME, crystal's box was. my apologies. i just looked over at it.
it wasn't really "shiny", but the colors where strong
I had Pokemon Yellow when I was 9 and traded it to some kid at after-school daycare for The Paperboy.
I put ~98hrs into Pokemon Gold, lots of cloning and a childhood friend had a Gameshark too.
Good times.
My older brother once bought a used truck and he found a copy of Yellow tucked between the back seats. He gave it to me because he was too old for pokemon at the time.
>I ran to my uncle saying how happy I was I got Silver, he frustratingly said "oh..." Turned around, got in his car and drove off and came back with Gold.
Randomly reminded me of the birthday I got Ruby
>wake up on my birthday
>dad tells me that he got me Pokemon Ruby
>but it's stuck in his car because he locked the keys in
>we both stood there and watched as a guy got the door open
>dad unceremoniously hands me the cartridge he got used from EB Games
>didn't care, had game
He could have just said my present was in the car and not told me what it was but that's just the kind of dude my dad is
yes this smelled so nice
Still one of the BEST memories from my childhood. Going to the mall, buying it and then reading the back of the box while eating pizza...
I remember how the Gameboy color was sold out leading up to my birthday so I had to wait a while to actually play it
I never held the box. my friend gave me his gameboy color and copy of yellow for my birthday
>Yea Forums
>being alive/conscious in 1998
Are you really implying most people got Pokemon right after launch?
I don't think I ever played through a game with more motivation than I did the first time I played Pokemon. How many play throughs of a game do you still remember 22 years later?
>Walk out of Funco Land with Pokemon Red
>My mom had Pokemon Blue so she could help me get through it since I'd never played an RPG before
>Turn it on and start the game
>Lose interest once I get to the overworld because it wasn't as cool as I had hoped
>Didn't get my first Pokemon, didn't know the series was about monster battling until Gold and Silver came out
Good times.
>made my one and only A
Damn nigga you stupid
Are you implying most people bought a copy of Pokemon Blue years after it launched?
...Are you a fucking retard?
I have never owned a nintendo system, so no, i don't.
Eastern Europe was Sega territory.
Absolutely.
I wish I could smell so I could have vivid smell memories
No, I was a Sega kid
I can but I don't have fond memories of them. Smellfags are weirdos.
>born in 1997
>pokemon red was one of the first games I ever played
what am I
Pokemon Red. I was like 7 or 8 years old?
Remember getting GBA games more clearly. Like F-Zero at Costco or Pokemon Sapphire at Circuit City.
Pokemon Red I don't remember too clearly. Do remember getting that GBC Rugrats game in New York when visiting senpai. Might have gotten it there.
poor
A zoomer, duh. At least you experienced the Pokemon games in proper order.
A niggerfaggot
Not that poster but imagine going to China and actually getting anywhere in a list of classes with a language you barley understand.
Now multiply that given how difficult English is compared to every other language.
Now who's stupid?
i have never been as happy in my life as when my dad got me pokemon red and a gameboy color
you're you user and that's completely fine :)
Why do people not keep their shit?
I'm also extremely nostalgic for the original anime season
The wild variety of upbringing and experiences one may have, user. Check your probably-grew-up-in-one-house privilege.
I've literally never met anyone who kept Game Boy boxes around after getting the game
For one thing Nintendo literally intended for you to throw away the boxes for all of their games until the GameCube.
because i was fucking 8 and gameboy boxes are neither as durable nor as functional as the disc cases or the DS cases that came after them
I've got all the game boxes I ever bought in a couple plastic bins.
It's just a cardboard box. Most people throw away packaging all the time and it's not like little kids knew it'd be valuable later.
Yep, I got a teal Game Boy Color and Pokemon Red as my first game back in 1998.
>it's not like little kids knew it'd be valuable later.
My dad told me to keep them.
And my mom hated clutter in the house and made me regularly cull down my possessions via goodwill and yard sales, so what's your point?
No I was born in 2002
My point is sucks to be you fag.
My mom threw the box away after I opened it at my birthday.
>kept my boxes
>they got worn and brittle from use
Same here and I’m still kind of pissed she gave away all my old G.I. Joes and other assorted action figures.
It's like asking why don't you have that cereal box from when you were 9.
i remember my entire day being ruined when the cartridge's internal battery died and took my save data with it a few years later
I owned some pretty rare GBC games that I very stupidly didn’t keep. I had:
Metal Gear Solid aka Ghost Babel
Survival Kids
Warlocked
Shantae
I got Red and a clear/purple cased GBC when I asked my dad for it
He picked me up from school, drove us to Walmart ad said let's go pick the games you've been asking for
I couldn't fucking believe it
>lying about not being the same poster
You, you are the stupid one
I got Pokemon Red with old Gameboy from my sister in 2003. I was so happy. I coudn't believe it I got my own Gameboy.
Next day I came back from school bought batteries and played the whole comfy autumn day on my window since you coudnt see much without proper lighting. When it got dark I moved on to play under my small lamp.
Jesus to be 13 again.
My first Pokemon game was Yellow. A used copy with a burnt out battery rendering saving impossible. Silver was my first Pokemon game that actually fucking worked.
I had yellow, I regret throwing all my boxes and manuals out now
If you had Gameboy/Color in 1998 and pokemon game you were considered rich in my eastern european lands. It was safe to asume you lived in one family home and your dad had 2 cars and probably sent you all the shit from USA.
I think my parents threw it out, yet all my genesis games still were complete.
No. I'm a zoomer who started with Pokémon Yellow...
My first copy of Blue was stolen by a classmate after he claimed a sibling smashed the cartridge with a hammer. My second copy of Blue was stolen along with my GBC during a field trip to a water park. I didn't get to experience the game again until it released on the 3DS VC 15 years later.
Yes but with Pokemon Gold and Sapphire, I remember the day I got them on their release dates. Awesome fucking times.
>stolen by a classmate after he claimed a sibling smashed the cartridge with a hammer
Lmao how have you believed him? Did he paid for it?
Yes, but with Pokémon Crystal. I lost the box at some point, however I got the 3DS VC box now so I am content.
>tfw remember my mom taking me to the gamestop and buying Emerald after getting good grades
God I miss being able to feel happiness.
Hey user, lets trade.
I forgot shit like meowth and ekans were version exclusives back then.
No I do not. In fact I played Pokemon for the first time about 5 years ago in my late 20s, and I really didn't care for it. Didn't stop me from enjoying the anime and card game when I was a kid though.
Honorable Yoomer then.
How have you survived pokemania? Everyone was talking about the game in 99 to at least 03
>Yoomer
No, but I remember leafgreen, boomer.
>got cucked out of experiencing Gen 1 because my parents and grandma were literally refusing to pay $35 for a game
>but got Silver the day it came out and drove most of my friends nuts
soulless
I remember that
You don’t need to defend yourself against the most bait first reply ever, OP. It’s okay to like video games.
I remember selling duped pokemons for real money when I was 11.
My total earning ended up around 600 bucks.
I played a lot of PS1 and PC games. You know, good memories.
Did you do it with the Emerald clone glitch?
Nah, it was back when Red and Blue just released.
My family was too poor to buy me a gameboy. I was still playing on the NES
You seem to have had a very different relationship with pokemon than me or anyone I knew.
No, but I remember religiously inhaling the paint fumes from freshly opened pokemon card booster packs.
I remember this book. I liked the mini pokedex in the back.
Yes
I even remember where I bought it since I bought it together with my GBC
Kys fucking homo.
I remember I wanted red but some fat smelly guy in front of me grabbed all 12 copies and I had to get blue.
i honestly miss pokemon
