They get along well because their ideology preferences don't conflict with each other, and neither are particularly expansionist.
The expansion factions were pretty much a miss. Half of them were further specialized alternatives to the original factions, and the other half being OP gimmicks. Even character wise, only Domai feels like he fits with the original 7.
I like Domai.
He embodies basically everything good behind communism as a idea.

They start out as buds until Peacekeeper elites try to bully the drones into accepting automation and low wage migrant labor creating an unemployable sub-drone underclass dependent on UN welfare state that can't be democratically undone due to the election system that stacks the votes in Peacekeeper favor.
