Thanks to the wonders of PS3 emulation, I've been playing Sigma. I played NG vanilla on the Xbox several years ago and I enjoyed it. What makes Sigma worse than Black? I'm only going off of years-old memories, but I haven't noticed any big differences from vanilla other than the shitty Rachel parts.

Yeah, it doesn't have any mechanics to discourage button mashing or spamming. You don't need to learn an enemy's moveset and counter them accordingly, just spam all day long because it's nothing more than a bad arcade beatemup.

The pacing of the game makes it a lot more fun to revisit to me; the Dragon Sword is the best weapon more often than not but weapons do offer some variety. Sekiro is slow to start up and the sense of exploration is the game's biggest draw. I suppose it would be fun to speed through the game when you know where certain items are ahead of time, but I wouldn't say the game is particularly conducive to it the way Metroid or Dark Souls is.

God hand is good but nowhere near as polished as NG. Adaptive difficulty sucks instead of proper difficulty levels and the 30fps cap makes it feel more sluggish compared to other action games. Any self respecting action game fan should have already played it though.

Because action games aren't good. Just like turn based combat or MOBAs or card games, the very basis of the genre is flawed and everyone playing them deserves a painful execution. Sekiro isn't an action game because it's actually a good video game, but it is the closest thing we'll ever get to a good action game.

There's less enemies during encounters so parrying is trivial since there's barely any risk to it and it's easy to just win, boss patterns changed to be easier, dumbed down combat, runs at a higher resolution but looks somehow worse than the OG Xbox version due to lighting changes and they removed blood and decapitations. They changed everything for the worse. And it's still not as bad has how much they butchered NG 2 with Sigma 2.

I thought it was pretty rough. I quit playing it at the part with the two rooms with swinging axes and guys shooting arrows at you. It was simply unmanageable with the terrible controls/camera.

It's still a good game either way. I can't comment on Sigma 2 since I haven't played either version of NGII. It's a shame that even if the games are ported to PC or contemporary consoles they'll likely be the Sigma versions, though.

NG gets kinda shit on by some action game fans for its RNG (like enemies dodging attacks, blocking flying swallow, ect) but I think that's a big part of why it's fun. You're always on your toes and it never turns into rote muscle memory like some games can when you get really good at them.

what chapter are you? Just remember to block whenever you see someone swing. Never try to run away and then start attacking to make someone run into your attacks. They will just throw ninja stars at you. Use XYXY to get into the air and avoid getting hit by other enemies while youre slicing the one guy. Approach it like a fighting game where you have to master the frame data and get hits in before the enemy and block if your attack is slower. Use shurikens to quickly get hitstun on an enemy attacking you

you can exhaust the amount of mages he spawns in. They are like 16 or so. If you kill them they almost always drop blue health so as long as you take as much damage as the orb restores you should be able to take them down while remaining at full HP so you can 1v1 masakado. Just block the orbs if you cannot get the timing down to roll through them. If you want to avoid them with rolling roll towards the enemy, not sideways or backwards. Because you want to go through the bullets while your iframes are active. If they dont charge up a shot they will have high dodge chance, so wait for them to charge or use their melee attack to just kill them. Once they are dead you can deal with masakado. Your can take off a bunch of his HP using your arrows, then make sure you keep the camera on him, block his attack, and chop at him.

Explore your options out of onland state, that's when you land after a jump. Most notably, you can charge UT with not wind up animation from on land state. You can cancel moves with shurikens to build custom combos. Make sure you get comfortable with X+A and different options out of it. It's a targeted jump, easier flying swallow out of it. Double press X+A for the guillotine throw, your fastest option of i-frames (use it when you have explosives stuck into you) and great damage if they hit a wall.

Blocking is very powerful in ninja gaiden. When playing on master ninja you will spend most of your time holding block (block+direction is dash). You can get grabbed out of block and some attacks can break your guard. There is reblocking in ng2: when guard broken release block and hold it again to go back into it.

Also there are counter attacks available out of block. These require timing.

MGR's highlight are the bosses, everything in between is not as good. Ninja Gaiden is the opposite. Bosses are alright, but the most fun I have with the games is fighting regular enemies.

Just make sure it's 3 Razor's Edge.

One X will get you thereabouts. It really fixes a lot of performance issues the 360 version had and it looks great when they set the native res that high.
