Is making a balanced fighting game based on an established canon franchise essentially canon breaking? For example in FighterZ you can play as Krillin and defeat Jiren in 1v1, which is ridiculous because in real life Jiren is a million times stronger than Kururrin. So essentially either the game is horribly unbalanced or horribly unrealistic

I didn't play much of the main campaign cause the "story" is literally worse than dogshit

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! I prefer the budokai games because they actually scale the characters (kid boo has more health than krillin etc.) I'm a gameplay over immersion gal anyway, but when there is zero explanation to whats going on on screen I can't get over it.

Do the xenoverse ganes have the "alternate ending storylines"? I really miss those from budokai

The story mode explained the power difference, although it's obviously forced. Everyone felt their power level significantly drop so they're all at the same point. Yamcha basically felt no difference, but Goku struggled at first. Goku and Jiren essentially have the same power level as the weakest character in the roster (I guess Videl now?). The only thing that goes against this is that they're still able to blow up planets etc in their finisher animations.

Its a video game made to be played by people.
You can have 3 gokus fighting 3 gokus.
Its not meant to be canon its meant to be a video game.
Hell even the in game story mode wont have Krilin fighting Jiren.

Even in the context of original fighting games you have devs just allowing anyone to be able to beat anyone if the game is balanced.

Canonically characters like Slayer are end level but they can still "lose" to characters like Bridget if you drop his health bar to 0. And even then he's just lying on the ground chilling since he's not actually been KO'd.

i dont think dbfz is canon AND it has a story reason for yamcha being able to go toe to toe with perfect cell.

As influential as DB was it just it just hasn't been too exciting for years because since the Z era, combat nas been all about infinite power increases until you get to the point where you can't show it off well and all you can do is say "this character is stronger than that one because more ki". Other animus have much more interesting fights because they built more fleshed out rules that aren't all just about power and the power escalation isn't as ridiculous.

It's not as explored as Budokai and SSW/SSW2, your job is to effectively stop them before they get out of hand. It does have some cool what-ifs, but overall it's not as fun as those were. You can make OCs come to life though, which can be unironically fun if you are a writefag.

I mean, debately anything not written by Toriyama directly is loosely based fanfics. GT, movies, games, Super, all of it. If you wanna get real technical Xenoverse had about as much help with the plot as Super did, so it's as canonically valid as Super, thus everything in it is canon.

And yet Yamcha can still theoretically beat Omega Shenron in those games.

It's a fighting game first, DB game second. It pays respect to the series but it's not going to compromise the gameplay just so you can enjoy annihilating Krillin as Jiren..
If you need an excuse, Android 21 reduced the power levels of everyone on the planet to those of early DBZ so it would be easier for her to eat people. Not to mention half the cast isn't going to take someone like modern Yamcha seriously to begin with.

He also supervised Xenoverse's story directly and was involved in the design of major characters such as Toki-Toki, Kai of Time, and in the past created the designs for SSJ4 in GT.

Xenoverse actually saw more direct work with Toriyama than Super has, and only reinforces the fact that Dragon Ball has no official canon.

Yes, and this is why Tenkaichi 3 will forever be the best. It WAS somewhat balanced, meaning you could still beat the strongest character with the weakest if you were good enough, but that's the thing. You'd have to be damn good.
