Game of the Year comes out in 8 days
Review embargo on the 9th
Ori and the Will of the Wisps

A review embargo is a bad sign
>believing some reviewer who got their copy earlier and for free
never ever my dude, the only review i can trust is proper gameplay video after release because now devs can send different versions of the game for review and release bugged mess version to people on day 1
>Windows 10 only
Nah, fuck that.
>it's gonna get reviewbombed by salty HKfags
feels bad
You can play it on windows 7, user
Never played the first one.
Should I?
Should I Game Pass this? I probably won't pay beyond the $1 period, but I can always just buy it in a Steam sale when I'm ready to replay. Hope the saves can transfer over easily.
I can't wait to bash motherfuckers with a big dumb hammer!
>Ori but actual boss fights, NPCs, sidequests, lore, branching character progression, bigger and harder
sign me the fuck up
why? you can like both you know?
>Non-linear progression
>"3x scope, scale and size" of Blind Forest
>New combat system with a good variety of weapons (throwing spear, hammer, sword, bow etc.)
>Side quests and NPCs with dialogue
>Even better visuals, dynamic environments, 60 fps animations (compared to the first game's 30 fps animations)
>4K, HDR, and ultrawide support at launch
>A lot of new talent hires such as the A2MR developer and people who worked on Rayman Origins/Legends worked on the game, so we can expect better level design and better platforming etc.
>A lot more variety of gameplay mechanics in addition to the ones in the first game, such as burrowing through sand, riding a mining cart, flying(on the owl), grappling etc.
>Actual boss battles in addition to the escape sequences, sometimes both connected
>Sound effects made by Formosa who did stuff like Mad Max, Frozen, Blade Runner 2049, God of War
>Same composer with even better music with more tracks/themes with a bigger orchestra
>Spirit trials - racing mini-game spread throughout the world
>Spirit shrines - another mini-game where you fight waves of enemies
>Equip based ability system similar to hollow knight's charm system with upgradeable abilities
Cool, I really enjoyed the first one, didn't even knew it was coming out so soon (last time I checked it was still TBA 2020).
Is anything known about the story? I assume this one is about the land where the owl comes from. Kuro probably escaped from whatever was wrong into their own land in the first one.
Will definitely pirate day one.
Also some new modes for extra playthroughs?
>This time around we have a couple of new modes, that really celebrate player retention and reasons for people to come back into the forest.
Yeah, it's pretty good and fun.
Sequel looks like more of the same but a bit better.
That's all pretty nice, I just wish for more enemy variety and more bosses. Fighting the same 3 blobs and the same tentacle boss over and over got pretty old in the first one. Other than that the game was already pretty much flawless. Even the story was pretty nice for once despite being typical feelbait lyk dis if u kry everytiem.
Its pretty flawed, it worked and is enjoyed better from a platforming perspective rather than a metroidvania one. It does do movement very well, probably better than most similar games, but the combat though might as well not exist, and the exploration is not nearly up to par on other similar games.
So Ori is one of the few games that I enjoyed but wouldn't recommend anyone play on Hard mode. The combat is really not the focus of the game, and playing on that mode just means you'll be mashing the X button more. The focus of the game is platforming and that's what it excels at, unlike a game like Hollow Knight which has far more attention on the combat.
That being said, from the little I've seen of WotW, it looks like combat will play a larger role and there will be real boss fights, so I may play on Hard this time.
It's a pretty good metroidvania.
Pros:
Great grafix
Great music
Platforming is fun with lots of abilities including some unique ones
Some impressive set pieces
Story is actually enjoyable
Moderately challenging without getting frustrating
Cons:
Poor enemy variety
Basically no bosses
Definitive Edition extra content is lackluster, also you get one ability that breaks the game too early
The steam page still lists w10 as a minimum requisite. I don't trust what a dev says off the record.
>spend hours drawing beautiful art for your shitty no-gameplay plataforming game
>HK comes around and completely overshadows your shitty game, with a fraction of the budget and dev time
>be forced to shamefully rip off HK on the sequel
Lmao, pathetic.
People will actually respond to that bait
Everyone will do one 12-hour playthrough and then forget about it, just like the first one.
Ori and der Club of Gore
>Are there difficulty options in this?
>There's Easy, Normal and Hard - But you should really pick Normal for your first playthrough. Hard is REALLY hard. Like, I'm not kidding you, Hard Mode should be only played once you completed the game on Normal a few times
>Well, what if hard in the first game felt fine in terms of difficulty? is this harder than that?
>Yes, it is, cause the combat gameplay is much more intricate, you'll take a lot more damage and the bosses will murder you very quickly. Play Normal first, try Hard Mode afterwards :)
I didn't mind the difficulty in Blind Forest, but I have yet to decide if I should start on hard or normal
>playing on that mode just means you'll be mashing the X button more
there are other, much better ways to fight, like throwing enemies into spikes with bash, or the offense abilities
I replayed it a couple times. But you're mostly right, but what platformer doesn't that apply to, really? I'm just gonna "rent" it for $1 I think.
>he can't play both
Dumb povertynigger, what's it like having to choose between things? Like, fucking hell Sophie, just get your nanny to save the other child like any wealthy parent would do.
You forgot the best new change
>bash is unlocked within the first hour
good thing there are easy solutions to your incredible problem, such as waiting for the release to know from someone who tried to run it on windows 7, or buying and refunding if it doesn't work
>I enjoy both Ori and HK
didn't know that, nice
>movement abilities locked behind level ups
Lmao, seriously? What the fuck were they thinking.
not a shill but I preordered it, hope it doesn't disappoint me since I almost never preorder
I just LOVE the platforming of the first game and the visuals and it seems this one will keep it and expand it
can't wait bros
what
I'm so hyped I will probably binge the game in an all nighter
this is the only true path, ignore all the other retards trying to start up a stupid war between the games
>m-m-muh windows 7
stfu, no one gives a fuck about you
Hyped for it, pre ordered it already, it will be the needed appetizer before doom launch
I couldn't give less of a fuck. It's Ori, it's on the game pass. I'm gonna play it for zilch, exaust the fun and move over to a differemt game.
Feels good to have game pass paid till 2021
I'm just upset because I bought the game and then they released a 'definitive version' with two extra areas. I'll get over it someday.
they gave you a 75% discount coupon if you had the base game, so just think of it as DLC
Well for a while, it was basically just $5 DLC. It was worth that, but not a whole rebuy if it was full price.
I think he's referring to the first game, where things like triple jump were locked behind the skill tree (granted it wasn't even needed for finishing it or all collectibles)
triple jump was the only movement ability that was locked behind level ups, and it was like an extra thing that was not necessary for anything like you said. complaining about it is absolutely retarded
shut up
I got a lot of time out of the first game. Even did the One Life mode and got all of the achievements. Ori doesn't get enough credit for how good of a platformer it was, and the sequence breaking people discovered was awesome.
Literally the cutest brothers.
Ku is a girl! They are big brother and little sister! Get it right!!!
I don't think Ori has a canon gender
soi: the game
have sex
The only official mention of his gender has been male, used to be referred to as a "he" on their website. Now I think they decided to go with ambiguous but I just use he anyway. A lot of people were retards and though they said "she" in game but they were referring to Kuro.
Ori might not have a girl or boy parts due to being a forest spirit born from a tree, but he is still Ku's big brother. You can't deny this FACT.
kuro fucked the tree?
Man that's one fucking cute ass owl
It’s Ori. Therefore can it really be game of the year?
based
Then they are literally the cutest brother and sister.
Shame the new villain is Kuro 2 without feathers.
How will Ku factor into the gameplay?
Will probably get chumped and forced to sacrifice itself, like Kuro. Dark is evil, light is good, thus spoke the Spirit Tree.
If it's really 3x the scope of the first game, that means it's going to easily be a 30 hours long game right? If that's true it'll be pretty impressive.
It'll be 15 probably.
lol
>However, we didn't intend Ori to be a boy or a girl specifically, you won't see their gender mentioned anywhere in the game. It's open for everyone's personal interpretation!
this is from a programmer from the from their AMA
I guess the creator had a different idea than the programmer
So did the retard of a tree actually murder even more owls than we thought?
3x the scope is not the same as 3x the length. It just means there's more stuff to do.
You'll get to ride around together during one area at least
Too late, you can't retcon his gender because you became more woke later. Ori is a beautiful baby boy.
cute
I'm guessing it will be at least around 20-30 hours if you do all the side content (which is how it's meant to be played obviously)
I think he just didn't know, user
Dilate tranny, you don't get to retcon things afterwards.
are you fucking retarded?
I'm saying the programmer probably wasn't aware the creator of the game intended the character to be male
i 100% the definitive edition in 10 hours its not gonna be 30
Game Pass for me.
Shit, I still have to finish the first one again.
>Game A bad cause B does X better xD
Cringe
hey Yea Forums
>replying to flagrant bait
krinke
I can't decide if I want to play it for the fourth time before WotW, I feel like it would lessen the freshness of WotW
Hum, I can understand. I only played 2 times, when the original released and then when the DE came out.
But I like to see the evolution of things playing one game after the other, I love these in videogames.
And the game isn't so long, I think you won't get burned out, user.
I feel so stupid rn, this one for me
Pirate. The game looks excellent and I really enjoyed the first Ori, but I'm not about to fall for the SUPPORT THE DEV IF YOU LIKE THE GAME meme. You either do it for passion or don't do it at all.
I'm gonna have a conniption if they don't give us some sort of countdown before it releases
This one got me*
Autocorrected
your operating system is no longer being updated, meaning that you are less safe using it and it's archaic windows defender.
I played the first on PC but I want to play this on my xbone in 4k in HDR on the TV.
You can do all that on PC though, no? But I get it if the Xbox on your TV is more convenient. Also I hope we can disable HDR, usually looks worse on 90% of "HDR" TVs, including my fake one.
There is no way there won't be a way to disable HDR
Nig, i loved HK and ori.
Why cant someone like both?
Yeah I hope so. I had to refund RE7 over it, though. My monitor is also fake HDR like my TV (didn't care, it was a good deal) but disabling it in game does nothing. Washed out and awful in HDR, disabled in borderless window but then the game stutters. I trust a Microsoft game for PC more than a Capcom one, though.
You're only allowed to like one thing
damn, that's bullshit. can't you completely disable HDR from windows/nvidia settings or something?
RE7 is actually bugged, supposedly it does it even on monitors with no HD at all. It was the result of an Nvidia driver that changed the way HDR works and Capcom never updated RE7 again. The issue isn't in RE2 Remake. DMC5 has no option to disable HDR at all, but borderless window doesn't stutter like RE7 so it can effectively be disabled. HDR on PC is just a mess in general.
fuck hollow knight
I guess that's one way to bump a thread
>all these orifrens falling for this consolewar-tier bait
at least I now know Metroidvania fans still have to deal with the snoy/nintendy equivalent of fanboyism
Based metroidvaniachad
All major releases have embargoes. It means that the reviewers can actually play the game instead of rushing to be the first to publish.
Probably something like “this is a platformer, so the abilities you earn should interact with that type of gameplay instead of all just being straight numerical upgrades like in a combat-focused RPG. Furthermore, it provides a safety net for lower-skill players in tough platforming segments, allowing them to retry them later with useful-but-never-essential extra tools, which is very helpful because the various difficulty mods only really affect combat rather than platforming challenge.”
Switch version when
>We're getting Ori next week
>We're most likely getting Silksong this year
FUCK YES
>We're most likely getting Silksong this year
Wouldn't count on it
okay chud
Pick one, you can't be a fan of both.
>Silksong this year
Umm, user........
>NONONONO! WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT A GAME NEEDS GOOD COMBAT IN ADDITION TO THE POINTLESSSLY BEAUTIFUL BACKGROUND GRAPHICS???????
>QUICKLY, COPY HOLLOW KNIGHT IMEDIATELY! THEY WILL NEVER NOTICE!
weak bait, try again
So has anyone else here been waiting for this shit for 4 to 5 years? I know I have. Hard to believe it's only a week away now.
>Feels good to have game pass paid till 2021
Sure does.
People who think Ori is a metroidvania in any capacity greater than a footnote are maximum zoomer.
you started to wait for the sequel immediately after playing it? I've been waiting for it since they announced it in E3 2017, so that's almost 3 years
True, metroidvanias have shitty platforming whereas Ori doesn't
Ninty put it in their 2020 lineup. Granted ninty is retarded but they likely know more than us about it
I was really hungry for more Ori right away, even after the definitive edition, don't judge me okay. It didn't help that the lead dev and composer weren't exactly subtle about the fact that they were working on a sequel in some podcast interviews I listened to. And the title for it coincidentally got "leaked" during microsoft's E3 conference in 2016. So I've been waiting for a while now.
Wasn't that leak from E3 2017, and some images were leaked too prior to the announcement. I didn't know about the interviews though, but I wanted more too of course. Just didn't think of the possibility at the time
>Wasn't that leak from E3 2017
No, I'm talking about pic related
oh, I can't remember if I was aware of that leak desu
>Ninty
I'm excited
guess you're talking about this. hope they were not talking out of their asses
Finished it on Hard. It was easy, but for some retarded reason you can't do a 100% playthrough on Hard, which ruined it for me. Definitely go normal if you're a completionist.
>you can't do a 100% playthrough on Hard
highly doubtful this is a thing
because it’s a fucking platformer. with like 3 seconds of a “metroidvania” element.
The upgrade tree costs more points on hard, so you can't max it out and get those sweet cheevos. I'm guessing he's referring to that.
so...the game can run on win7 right? i really wanna buy it on steam because i enjoyed the first one very much.
This game is KINO
the creator said he has no reason to believe it wouldn't run on win7. buy it and refund if it doesn't run, or wait until someone confirms either way after it releases
I found further proof
If that were really true, he would change the requirements in the steam page, which he didn't. As I said, I don't believe off record remarks.
Microsoft might have told them to put it there to encourage people to upgrade. I don't see why he would lie when people can easily give it a bad review and then refund
theres a point of no return after a dungeon, if you dont completed a specific part of the map before that, your fucked of the 100%.
it has nothing to do with the dificult
there are no areas in the definitive edition that you can't go back to
No, I was talking about exp points/skill tree or whatever it was.
This convinced me to play Ori 2 on Hard directly.
But he would be lying anyway, since he wen't with microsof's scheme put the windows 10 requirement on the front page to fool people into updating unnecessarily. He can't be trusted.
they fixed that point of no return shit?
yes
The definitive edition also adds these
The bad parts of the first game were boring platforming, awful/nonexistent combat encounters, and level design being too basic. From the trailers/gameplay previews it seems to all be overhauled and expanded so I don't see how this isn't an automatic 9/10
ooh nice, im gonna have to check it
Loved the first game and can't wait to play WotW. It'll be a nice hold over until we get Silksong.

Xbone shill threads are so fucking sad and embarassing. Sent.
So do the Age of Empires 1 and 2 remasters pages, and those both work just fine on 7. Devs aren't dumb enough anymore to limit their games to an operating system that most people still aren't using, that's how a bunch of Microsoft's other games the last few years bombed since nobody owns an Xbone either.
you don't need an Xbone to play it tho
>the even more cinematic and shorter sequel
yeah, I’m out, they focused on the most casual aspects of the first one (visuals, cinematic set pieces), when they should have made it an even deeper game by focusing on combat and exploration, like a Hollow Knight.
these baits keep getting worse and worse
>more cinematic
>shorter
dude the map is literally 3 times the size of the first game and there are side quests to do now, what the fuck are you talking about?
here's your (You) buddy, I hope it means a lot for you
>falling for this shit of a bait
user, I...
>3 times as many cinematic set pieces in areas where you can’t return
great
ok I'll bite. you will be able to return to them :) :) :) :) :)
says who
He did!
