Same as original. You can equip 1 weapon, 1 armor, 1 accessory per character. You get EXP and AP from enemy kills. EXP levels you up, AP levels up Materia.
You can also level up weapons somehow and learn weapon-unique skills but they haven't shared much info on that yet

ah yes, its perfect, locked onto a target, swing at them, and suddenly spin around to attack an enemy above me who is "closer" but not within range, despite the locked on enemy. such great and perfect design.
saw this happen at least once on almost every player who did this.
this is clearly a bug, and probably going to be fixed by release, if not already. (this demo is half a year old)

For a full FF7 remake in a way that Square wants to would take billions of dollars and 30 years to make.
If you're going to wait for the full experience either buy a time machine or prep those depends.

Actual criticisms/thoughts
- Barret is fucking boring. He might feel better to play later in the game when you get more abilities for him but he really needs some kind of way to vary up his attacks like how cloud can hold attack to do a different one, should also be able to tap the machine gun to do some other attack combo. His special ability isn't that fun as it pretty much feels like a special ability except it doesn't use ATB and has a super long cooldown. Also the fact that one of his two abilities is just a defense buff on a character who mainly just sits there and holds attack is awful and boring, no reason to ever manually play as barret unless you don't want to sift through menus to have him do his special moves
- There needs to be quick commands specifically for other teammates so you don't have to go into slowdown as you run through menus to have a party member do one of their special moves on an enemy while you're controlling another one. It would help speed up combat a bit more and make it feel good as you combo multiple party member attacks with the character you're controlling
- Punisher mode on cloud shouldn't have auto-parry, it removes skill and it also really trivializes melee only enemies. Cloud should take more damage from projectiles and magic while in punisher mode
- Speaking of, maybe it's just because they're the first enemies and later enemies have a lot more variety but the basic troopers REALLY need more attacks, same with dogs. Again punisher mode just trivializes these characters.

That's all I can think of right now. So far I think the combat system is cool and well thought out but i'll wait for the full game to see if any of my issues are resolved.
