TO THIS DAY I am still pissed at what could’ve been a fleshed out, Majora’s Mask based moveset completely thrown out of the woodworks for some generic carbon copy of Sm4sh and Brawl Link.
Does Sakurai just hate the Zelda series?

“Masked Link” as a four in one character has always been an unreasonable fan request, but yes, both Toon and Young Link should have at least been given more unique weapons for their special moves instead of the tired Melee specials.
I think YL should just been given the ocarina to switch between adult and young forms so then we could've given botw link a much more unique moveset.
I understand that. I’m not necessarily begging for the Pokemon Trainer-esque move set, I’m just very disappointed that Sakurai has failed to implement a final smash that represents MM more than OoT. Even his weapons could’ve at least been altered, like a Razor/Gilded sword instead of his Kokiri dagger.
Even still, the Masks play a MASSIVE role in MM. It would be unjust to completely ignore the masks entirely. If Sakurai can make an entire move set out of Sheik who literally never fights in the game, then he can work some shit out there.
It’s also funny how he gives Shiek a fighter moveset but never utilises the one ability she does throughout the game, which is the Deku nut. That’s an easy stun move that can work similar to Mewtwo’s down special.
>Does Sakurai just hate the Zelda series?
Sure if you ignore the shitload of stages, music, items, assist trophies, etc that are from across the entire series
But oh yeah that's right, all Smashfags care about are looking at the CSS.
>they couldn't just shit out a Fierce Deity model and reskin his triforce slash
All I want to know is why the fuck could Toon Link not at least get his Deku Leaf as his recovery
>Recycles the brawl engine for the second time
>Replaces trophies with images
>Replaces event matches with a far inferior mode that only has a pretty looking map going for it
>Expecting Nintendo to actually put in any effort in an obvious missed opportunity
Kek you would've been lucky to have gotten the razord sword/hero's shield.
>brawl engine
Brawl used the Melee engine you retard
Damn well I guess he recycled the same engine THREE times then. Lazy hack. lol
>”Why doesn’t Sakurai cater specifically to me? Does he actually hate the series that I love?”
If you weren’t so fucking retarded making stupid ass posts like these for (you)’s then you’d know that through the DLC selection Sakurai has a bias towards series that he likes. Look at FE and it’s representation in Smash in comparison to Zelda.
It’s his job to cater to me as a Zelda fan if he wants my fucking money you moron.
Young Link: Re-skin his items to match the ones he used in MM (i.e. Hookshot) and give him the Razor Sword since it seems to be the "official" sword for MM. As for his FS, just make him Fierce Deity Link and change the triforce symbols to outlined designs of Majora's Mask.
Toon Link: I'm honestly fine with most of his moveset, but maybe change his Up-B to act more like Hurricane Spin where it's harder to control when used on the ground. And for his FS, replace Triforce Slash with him using the Wind Waker and calling in a cyclone to trap other players and send them flying.
Well yeah, that's the biggest appeal for a crossover, the characters. Are you braindead?
The real reason is that FE characters are fucking easy to make, which saves development costs.
Melee was the last game with SOUL. And before you say I'm just using buzzwords, I'll say why.
In Melee, all the characters were made from scratch. It was a new console generation with massively upgraded graphics and the devs went with hyperrealistic models that meshed together well despite all the characters coming from different sources. They took care to represent them well based on whatever game they came from (with exceptions like Ganondorf who was added at last minute). Brawl on the other hand was working off either what was already established in Melee so you had shit like characters having updated appearance but movesets still based on older iterations of that character and all the models were reused from each character's mainline game or from Melee but just given a realistic texturework reminiscent of those ugly fanmade HD mods. Sm4sh went away from that texture style but the movesets were still an artifact of earlier years.
Melee doesn't have banjo
Agree with the whole post honestly, it's kind of weird that other characters got visual updates but Young Link didn't get any
I really wanna play these games. Playing ALTTP now and loving it
What should i play next bros? I'm guessing OoT? My computer runs citra like shit though, will I be missing much if I Just emulate the basic 64 version?
The last new Zelda character was Toon Link in Brawl and he's just a clone of Link
The last new Zelda character with a unique moveset was Zelda/Sheik in Melee
Ganondorf, one of the greatest Nintendo villains is nothing more than a clone of Captain Falcon. While Ultimate gave him his sword for his smash attacks. Sakurai has refused to completely change Ganondorf's moveset for the past 3 games now.
Despite multiple characters that could've been new Zelda reps like Tingle, Tetra, Midna, Zant, Fi, Ghirahim.
We can't even get any Echo Fighters like Toon Zelda or Impa.
Hell the Dark Link alts aren't even implemented properly. They should be like Alph, with their own name and voice.
A lot of legacy characters in Smash are honestly overdue for some overhauling
The way I would've liked it is if they changed up Regular and Toon Link more, and kept Young as the classic style moveset. Or, if you wanted Masks involved for Link, you wouldn't necessarily need different movesets; just kinda pull a Byleth with them and briefly transform him for each transformation-related move.
>Goron Roll as side special
>Deku Flower as up special
>Zora Boomerang as neutral special
>Blast Mask Explosion as down special (you either take damage alongside your target or can do it while shielding, which greatly damages the shield)
>Fierce Deity Flurry as Final Smash
As matter of fact yes he does hates the Zelda series
>But muh new skins, stages and music!
Literally the last newcomer in the series was Zelda/sheik 20 years ago, you can't prove me wrong
I guess Ocarina and Majora wouldn't hurt
If you're enjoying ALTTP, play ALBW at some point, but probably not immediately after since they reused the maps for it
>No Hilda alt or Echo
I'll never understand this
>Dark Link alt on every Link
Kind of annoying since Toon Link doesn't really need one and should get the Outset pajamas instead, but I guess it's just tradition at this point
OoT64 is fine, but be sure to grab Better OoT (and a 1.0 ROM). It's a program that allows you to tweak various aspects of the game for challenge run or QoL purposes; the main fix of interest here is having the D-Pad used for swapping Boots on the fly (this was a massive tedious pain in vanilla 64). But be sure to keep cutscenes intact if you're interested in the story, since Better OoT defaults to disabling them.
Could have atleast changed the sword and shield, as well as Final Smash.
Four Sword Adventures did have a Dark Toon Link.
Though I agree Toon Link should have a Pajama Alt.
They still haven't done Ganondorf justice. There's no way they weren't just going to keep Young Link as a third Link clone.
I don't see how it's unreasonable when they have pokemon trainer. If they stopped adding so many shitty 3rd parties and actually fleshed out the characters and gameplay they already have it'd be fine.
