130+ hours, 380 ingame days and 6 years in modded BWP and I still havent started BG2, making through Durlag's Tower atm. Candlekeep beginning feels like a live away.

Yes, there is.

Story was a shit. Factions were a shit. World was a shit. I benched companions because I never liked them in the first place but I assume they were a shit too. Gameplay was just kinda eh because you had a hundred skills that had very little impact. The most fun I had was collecting gear and fine-tuning my party's AI behavior so I could watch them auto-battle.

What bothered me the most was that you were urged to go chase Eothas, and in the end your presence wasn't even really required. This kinda just meant that the the real influence you had was on the factions, but all the factions were garbage and I only even put up with them so I could chase Eothas. I just generally hated every npc I came across, and when I attempted another playthrough all potential interest I had in doing so completely vanished the moment I heard someone say ac and ekera again.

As a person who grew up playing BG 1 + 2 and Icewind Dale 1 + 2 and Planescape Torment, what games would you recommend?
I tried Larian games 3 times, barely forced myself to play them for 2-3 hours and uninstalled. There's nothing appealing in them.

Is it true that only Pillars of Eternity try to capture the soul of Baldurs Gate, but kind of failed with shitty dialogue and music?

I saw the recent Baldurs Gate 3 reveal clip and it looks like complete horseshit.

What about Torment: Tides of Numenera?

The combat alone was enough for me enjoy it more than 1. Still, the main story is non-existent, even if the side-content tries to hold up the game, and the companions are a complete joke.

There's just a fuck ton of variety since the Kickstarter revival and no one sane can really complain about it. Think about it. Most of the good CRPGs in the past were basically Infinity Engine games and if you didn't like those you were shit out of luck. Now, I'm not saying all modern CRPGs are 10/10 GOTY, but they're there if you want something different.

Tides of Nu Men Era is really, really, bad.
In its current state, Pillars of Eternity is really enjoyable, The White March is great even. Ignore the gold nameplate NPCs and you'll have a fun time.
I could never finish Kingmaker because of the bugs, but it looks like it might be great.

What others have said pretty much. I don't recall it even being that SJW (looks like it'll be as SJW as baldurs gate 3) but mods outright confirmed it's just one guy who latches onto a game and spergs the fuck out about it, likely the shazam poster for cyberpunk and later mk11. The itemization was way better this time around, the multiclassing was a welcome addition and Eothas was a great choice as an anti-villain protagonist. I enjoyed being a Captain too.

However, the companions, ship combat and story wasn't up to scratch. A lot more could have been done to expand on the writing but they fucked up on that. The only character I liked, like most people was Eder.

Dragon age origins is on steam user. Just the games gimmick is you pick a origin story at the start. Some argue it was the last decent game from bioware. Bit generic but if you don't mind that you'll properly like it.

Unless they patched it in a major way, a lone wolf summoner should be strong. The incarnate champion can carry you quite a bit, totems can plink away at enemies, and having the elemental versatility helps. Stealing shit is always a good way to get a head start. Tea is your friend. Not really that much else to it, I think.

It's literally the same guy who is shitting up Cyberpunk threads now. He also spent a while trying to shit up DMC5 threads but it didn't really work because there was just too much positivity.

I love how this artist was apparently REALLY committed to female protagonist having that shitty sidecut. Defining characteristic.

After playing it go back to some complaints and laugh as you see people complaining about ranged being shit-then discovering they should have taken precise shot or people spending hours trying to kill a swarm with a sword. My favorite: I rested but all my health didn't recover, wtf

Rekke and Ydwin were so damn great despite having fuck all dialogue. The Ryrmrgand DLC was fantastic all-round, it really has become a problem for Obsidian that their DLC is always so much better than the base game. People aren't going to buy your DLC if they don't like the game, you have to put your best foot forward. They just don't seem to get that.

Likewise with PoE1, the White March was vastly better than the base game, it was a brilliant expansion.

I don't think the gay fish guy was the same as XV-kun. He was trying to do the same shit but set kingdom hearts 3fags and dmc5fags against one another.

The problem with the story in the Pillars games is that you only get half of it in the base game. Without the DLC you're simply missing so much context and world building that it feels truncated and kind of flat. It's true for both games but more pronounced for 2.
But the gameplay mechanics of 2 were amazing, the multiclassing was great and there were a whole lot of unique items and builds.

Wildcards is essential, don't play the game without it.
Varnhold's Lot and Beneath the Stolen lands are nice to have but far from essential.

Any CRPG where you can side with the 'villain(s)'? Not just do 'evil' stuff that will affect your Karma or stats like that, but work toward an ending where you fight against what you were initially for without the game implying it's 'game over'.

The only reason to play obsidian games are the story and characters, and they fucked up on both accounts.

Sure the game plays better than its predecessor but people don't go to Obsidian to have a good gameplay experience.

A lot of people like the Divinity games purely for the gameplay and thats fine user.

After playing Kingmaker with the Turn Based Combat mod I think I actually have a preference for Toggleable now. Because my preference isn't just RTwP or just Turn Based and I don't have no preference, my preferred way to play is to use RTwP for large encounters with dozens of combatants and trash mobs, but Turn Based for bosses and more difficult encounters where I want to make sure everyone in my party is doing something every round.

I also like the balance between trash encounters which gives your party attrition and big boss fights and it's up to you to manage how you spend your combat resources because there is a timer and you can't just rest after every encounter. So you can't just go around casting all your best spells on the trash encounter even though one cloud kill would deal with the lot of them.

I'm enjoying ATOM rpg so far and all its russian jank. Makes me want to replay Fallout 2 just so I can do a proper comparison.

Feels like there is a lot more writing in ATOM than in F2, or at least every character in the game has a lot more to say.

I always felt SoZ was underrated because everyone expected MotB 2.0, but got something radically different instead.

Kingdom management is a bit of a shit. Just cheat through or disable it lmao. You get a few fun things like skelly guards and workers and artisan stuff, plus teleportation networks, though.
Balance is wonky, but blame paizo. Owlcat just follows the rules. The nice part about this is that mods that add in classes, feats, and spells from pnp will still work well with what's already in the game because they also follow the rules.
It has some unironic SOUL, fuelled mostly by eurojank and a budget of three bottles of vodka and a tracksuit.
As for the story, deadfire is shat upon because it features the stupid ass god and wheel plot, in a setting nobody really cares about. Kingmaker is about gassing the fey.

Instantly fell in love with the demo. That's how you make a party CRPG, was absolutely blown the fuck out by the fact that party members aren't just idle dummies but actually have their say during encounters. Gameplay is very solid, encounters are fun and challenging.

I hated how shoe horned the actual sailing aspect was. When you got right down to it, actual sailing was literally nothing more than a fancy looking overworld map. Ship combat was boring as fuck, especially since it was pretty much just text based unless you boarded/got boarded in which case it just turned into a pretty boring and quick combat encounter. The fact that ship conmbat iss largely pointless and just serves as a way to make some extra money and score a bit of loot, combined with the fact that fanboys use that as an excuse for why it's acceptable (i.e. "dude if you don't like the ship combat just don't do it haha") makes it all the more frustrating. The way the game was advertised, the setting of the game, and holy shit even the store page (the cover art fucking shows the main characters fighting a fucking kraken on their ship) make it seem like sailing and ship combat would be a huge focus of the game but nah, it ultimately just feels like nothing more than an afterthought.

The biggest problem was the characters didn't grab me and haven't stuck with me after playing it. I could forgive the over tuned gameplay, and the management stuff that felt totally tacked on to the point it might as well not have been there. I mean Kingmaker gets the same complaint from me, but with Kingmaker I actually liked most of the cast, even Linzi as annoying as she was at first grew on me. I liked Eeyore Cleric of Groetus, I even liked the Thot and the Cuck after awhile, and even if the storyline was blah, I liked the characters and that's usually what sticks with me when it comes to RPGs. When I think back to all my favorite RPGs the thing that I'm reminded of more than anything isn't the gameplay, it isn't the journey, it isn't how it ended, it really is the friends I made along the way. That's true for JRPGs and WRPGs.

The pacing of the game is the biggest issue. It just doesn't have enough beats and made what could have been something interesting, chasing a god, feel like a saturday morning adventure (a really dull one).
I personally love the character creation and the combat but as soon as it comes to leaving port maje I realise i really can't be stuffed sailing around such a boring world with a story that acts like the worst carrot on a stick in history.

I remember asking my divinity expert friend about the lore of the game 20 hours into the game because I don't understand certain things about the world that everyone kept referencing. Then I realized he didn't know anything either, except for a 1 page timeline of the world there's nothing else on the internet. Game just expect you to accept it for what it is while parading to be something else entirely.

Pillars of eternity is imo the best start to get into the genre. Don't let others tell you how bad it is, its maximum comfy game with great music, atmosphere and great companions. The DLC is especially good. Its available on console but beware of loading screens. Get ssd!
