What scares you in a vidya?

jump scares, unironically. I can handle everything else, and I'm a horror movie aficionado that feels nothing during movie jumps.

I think it's the interactivity/immersion that gets to me.

Most things with good sound design. Either lonely, dark ambiance or oppressive industrial noise give me a good sense of dread.

There's nothing inherently wrong with jump scares. The issue is that most games that utilize them poorly, or get predictable on repeat playthroughs.

That's why I like Darkwood. Starting out is actually scary and the nights have pretty impressive threatening sounding ambiance, but as you learn how to defend yourself better and begin getting better weapons you turn into a badass except instead of stomping you hit monsters with a shovel.
