True but it’s an overall worse game due to the horrid pacing and Tartarus.

3,4, and 5 all have distinct styles and moods that can reflect the player while playing. All of these aesthetics matter in some way shape or form

this, it's easy to look back on p3 with nostalgia goggles, but the game really is a fucking slog for so much of it. p5 does a lot of things worse than p3, but the fact that it has real dungeons that are at least SLIGHTLY interesting to play over the braindead grinding in tartarus puts p5 far above p3 overall and MUCH more replayable. if i ever play p3 again, i'll definitely just play it on easy so i can just breeze through the cancerous tartarus segments on focus on the shit the game actually excels at

I notice people never talk about 1 or 2. are they worth bothering with at all? what about the SMT games? I've only played P5, but loved it so much I've beaten it three times and plan on more when Royal rolls around.

I've played both P2's (IS and EP) and P1 PSP. They're great, but waifufags have taken over the series. It's why we'll likely never see content for those games ever again. Same for mainline SMT, which has been shafted for 5 more Persona 5 spinoffs because Atlus hates my money.

P5's menus are objectively a massive improvement both functionally and visually.
3 undoubtedly has a better cast, story, and soundtrack though.

1 is pure garbage, 2 is alright.

P1/P2 don't have dating sim gameplay stuff (as in social stats and a freeform calendar, etc.) so they're basically just normal PSX JRPGs but dark and with high school settings. I think anyway, I never finished either and played them years ago, only answering because other retards are just saying useless shit.

I think MT/SMT games are just normal JRPGs also, although there are so many spin offs and side games and I've only played a few SNES and PS2 games out of like more than a dozen so I'm sure there's shit I don't know.

Yes, it is quite easy, but that is why it is a pleb filter. There are so many things that make it memorable, and the OST is fucking amazing.

No. That's like saying FF7 is a pleb filter. Everyone pretends to have played it, and supposedly loves it.

Honestly, the gameplay is just really fucking meh. P1 is a barebones first person dungeon crawler which introduces the main players of P2, so you kinda have to play it if you want more context. It's pretty short and you can autobattle through 90% of the game.
P2:IS probably has one of the best stories in the series but the gameplay is absolute ass, you have to go through a gorillion of menus every turn. It's also absolutely piss easy to the point where you don't even have to fuse your Personae a single time, since the ones you get for free for going through the story are more than enough.
P2:EP made the gameplay harder and you actually might care about fusion now, but it's mostly reused assets with a story that never really catches up to what made IS great.

It doesn't also help that their versions are fucked if you're not a nip.
P1 had a PS1 version that was heavily americanized, pic related is one of the changes made. In this image you can see both the original character and the adapted one. Guess which one is which. Then there's the PSP remake which is close to the original but has very controversial OST changes.
P2:IS never got a western release on PS1, so for a long time we only had a fan translation that was kinda eh. The PSP version is somewhat fine.
P2:EP had an official English release, but no PSP release in the west. So basically you suffer through fan translated IS into EP, or through IS PSP into EP, which makes it also kinda shit since you lose out on a lot of QoL stuff.

Basically you can play the games once for history/completion's sake, but they're really not that great.

It may have filtered the absolute retards but the game itself was kinda shit and really half baked. 99% of the issues I had with IV were fixed in IVA, like, really, everything that annoyed me in IV was improved, it's crazy.

4 started it, Apocalypse made it worse. Just look at the choice of guest artists and use of furigana (reading aids for children) in the japanese version

P3 went way too hard with beating you over the head with its symbolism as did P5. 4 had this nice little middleground where it was there but usually not commanding your attention unless you were in a dungeon.

It's amazing how much better Raidou's animated and emotive 3D models used for dialogue are compared to P3/4's static 2D jpegs. Even when P5 got such a huge budget in comparison, the actual character models still just stand there motionless most of the time while the 2D portraits do the work
