it depends, DDR can't really be compared to HOTD you know
anyway, Initial D Arcade Stage 3
HOTD doesnt play the same without a light gun
i tried playing it with my mouse and it's just not the same man
You're favorite one ;)
If you have unlocked stuff, yeah.
RE-RE-RELOAD!
It's Crazy Taxi for sure.
Then Time Crisis 2, then the third one. Then Point Blank
Then the Metal Slugs.
Then Simpsons.
Sega Marine Fishing
Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 5.
Or Shock Troopers if it has to be grandpa tier.
>Wangan Midnight
My nigga
youtube.com
About 15 years ago I'm at the arcade and I hear this tune for the first time coming from a new cabinet. I'm in fucking love with the song so I walk over to it and I see an asian dude sit down in it and put on racing gloves. I'm like alright that's a little ridiculous, but this dude plays flawlessly. He was so aggressive with his turns and shifts that he was shaking the massive cabinet all over the place.
I'll always associate this track with his masterful driving.
Time crisis 1 & 2.
Yeah it's a great game. I was pretty amazed with how well the game felt to play back in 2004, the "gamefeel" was amazing. I still think it is. I went out to play tonight, been a few months, had get revenge on the online challengers and retake the local crowns $20 well spent lol.
The Star Wars one. No contest.
I really fucking miss light gun games. Wish I still had an old TV set somewhere so I can play shit like Vampire Nights and Time Crisis again.
You could always get VR
Point blank was underrated and not common
PS3 and Wii have some good ones.
Its not the same man.
based wanganchads
Using a light gun and a move/wii controller is completely different.
When there's a crosshair on the screen the game becomes easy mode and its not as satisfying as hitting your mark accurately by yourself.
based
You can turn them off. Time Crisis 4 comes with them off by default.
Fighting games
Racing games
Lightguns
Metal slug
Pachinko
Good morning
They aren't as accurate as light guns though, at least based on my experience. The iron sights on light guns were pretty accurate compared to any plastic holders the move or wii had.
Dynamite Cop
>gun is poorly calibrated
Shit made Hangedman near impossible
Yeah they arent, but I can deal. I 1cc'd House of the Dead 2 with the Wiibar setup and Time Crisis 4 on move. It's not a huge downgrade. When miss just move over lol.
Found a Time Crisis 2 set with the guncon for cheap, was all hyped up to play it before I realized my old TV only had an RF input. Gonna have to look around at thrift stores and shit now.
Any other memories of MaxiTune? I remember the day I finally did my first Full-tune. I still have photos from it. The car is named after a favorite game character of mine
(it's color palette too is based on the character)
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Do I have to know anything about this game before I play it? There's an arcade about an hour away from me that has it and I'm pretty sure they have the cards for it too but I have no idea what the deal is with it.
Not him but EmuVR actually feels almost exactly the same as when I had a Guncon back in the day. VR isn't like the wii where there's crosshair drift, it's as 1:1 as an actual light gun.
it's the second biggest anime racing game after initial d. you race on the shuto expressway. That's all you need to know.
Metal Slug 3
Star Wars Arcade
Time Crisis 3
depends on the game options/where you're sitting
The games are based on the Wangan Midnight manga/anime series that ran with Kodansha, the story mode (which you have to play to upgrade your car) follows the story well, save for a few omitted story arcs and the fact that you're just driving along as the story plays out
There's one part of the story mode that doubles as a diss to it's rival series, Initial D, that one always cracked me up
~~do you want the unlock codes for the hiace and pajero?~~
SUFFER LIKE G DID
TO PERTECK THE LOIFE CYCLE!
DIS IS DA FAYNL BAWDL!
Ketsui
Time crisis 3
Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Deka/Cop is great
I can't believe this game scared me as a kid
Never gets old.
Only reason I played this game the first time was because of the song, my dad is a huge ELP fan. It's alright, not the best shooter but certainly not the worst.
youtube.com
I'm good on the codes, thanks. I've played Initial D 2 or 3 times. Mostly just worried I'm gonna end up not being great at it and having to spend a ton on getting through story missions.
EmuVR feels nothing like a lightgun because the resolution is just awful, the performance is dogshit because you can't turn off any of the dumb filter shit nobody needs, and you can't do anything fun like make the screen 10 feet tall to compensate.
The lightgun model they picked is one of the worst, too. Right now, VR honestly needs red dots to be playable.
t. chad
Taiko no Tatsujin. There's really no point in anything else.
That game is hard as balls. I guess I lacked the ketsui to go beyond stage 2.
Yeah, sad part is that our local arcade used to charge 50 cents per game, and with 60 missions, you'll end up spending 30 dollars total, assuming you play the whole story perfectly without screwing up a single stage
Also the drift mechanics are much more lenient here, have fun with that. Physics engine is very lenient too, try not to get mad when a human opponent chucks a traffic car in your direction to block your way.
got pulled over for speeding because of this song
youtube.com
such a good soundtrack, physically impossible not to accelerate as it ramps up
cop gave me a warning
All cave games are like that. I find Dodonpachi Daioujou way more interesting aesthetically but it's too fucking hard.
What's your HMD? Might just need an upgrade to the new gen stuff. I'm using an Index and don't have any of these problems.

yuzo koshiro is a god at composing, what do you expect from the guy who did the soundtracks for streets of rage, ys, kid icarus uprising, and remixes for ssb4 and ssbu?
also this is another good song of his from the series, this version of 5 never hit the west sadly youtube.com
>Needs red dots to be playable
I literally played through the entirety of House of the Dead 2. As for resolution and filters, that shit was how actual CRTs were, at least the television I had when I was younger. Unless you're talking about the HMD; I played both on Valve Index and Vive and both were fine.
truly THE best arcade game ever
>Got a job in an arcade as a teenager
>First day on the job I had to help cart out the Time Crisis machine to replace it with one of those virtual roller coaster things that were just a set of chairs with speakers under them in front of a big tv
I have never played it with a light gun so playing it with a mouse seemed fine to me, at least the house of the dead game I played did, I don't know about the originals
No fucking contest. Still the best Star Wars game; felt like being inside the movie. Plus it wasn't fucking impossible, I could beat it from start to end with one credit.
I love arcades but actually working at an arcade sounds like a bad fucking time because of shit like this, especially since it's a one way trip to some severe tinnitus one would think
I'm on Vive.
I can play with iron sights when they're well done, but in EmuVR, they picked the zapper model, which has awful irons. Maybe it'd be better if I could up the resolution scale, but thanks to the cancerous filters and rendering an entire pointless room when a menu would work fine, I can't even do that.
Ultimately, it's just a massively inferior experience to either running the games on console, or emulating them on a PC CRT. Call me when we have something like virtual desktop with frontend support, EmuVR's mediocre support list combined with it's absolutely cancerous game switching system where you have to go to the back of half the TV models and switch the fucking cables is just the worst.
If you didn't have any CRTs, I'd just recommend something like the new Sinden lightgun instead, simply because it'll at least support all the stuff you can play on PC, instead of the tiny fraction you can play with retroarch.
never seen that before but that looks AMAZING, i wanna play it now
>G's bloodstains!
How did they know it was G's blood?
Also who the fuck is G?
>praising yuzo koshiro without mentioning the game series with his best work
The fuck is wrong with you?
youtu.be
Oh it's so fucking good dude. You play through all the best parts of episode 4, 5 and 6 in a row.
And it's all gameplay too; if you miss the final shot into the core of the death star, the death star doesn't blow up and destroys Yavin 4. My ass could crush diamonds whenever I got to that part.
SEGA is currently remaking HoTD 1,2. Set to come out this year.
Surprisingly never had hearing problems. Actually knew a guy who liked working there specifically because he had tinnitus before and the constant noise kind of drowned it out for him.
G was one of the protagonists of the first game, and an ally to the protagonists of the second
i may not be a star wars fan but godDAMN does that sound fun as hell
I just don't have any monitors big enough to justify getting an IRL light gun, and the amount of EMF that CRTs give off as well as their power drain is... concerning. VR solves this problem for me by simulating a decently sized television for me.
I guess it's not for everyone though, and if you've experienced better then you've experienced better, at least you're speaking from personal experience and not talking out your ass about VR stuff without actually having VR like a lot of people on this board.
Tinnitus is something that sneaks up on you, it's not an immediate thing.
Why, Cabal, of course!
Just be careful with your ears and you'll be fine.
>that guy who thinks shmups are good
I haven't checked this stuff in a while, but it looks like these days you can hack together a 4 IR LED setup with an arduino for an accurate lightgun.
forum.arcadecontrols.com
I might get around to making one myself, I've got an old Namco shell lying around and I've always wanted to get the solenoid up and running at home. Seems a lot more foolproof than Sinden, far more accurate than Aimtrak, and in terms of parts it's only like 50 bucks, tops.
Supposedly you can replicate pointer capability with joycon gyro, I wonder how accurate it is, the only switch game to really use it so far is captain toad where it doesn't need to be accurate
I really want a dragon quest swords port or sequel
Would love to see The House of the Dead remade or ported to VR.
>My ass could crush diamonds whenever I got to that part
what the hell is that supposed to mean
This but with HOTD 3 and onward; you can play 1 and 2 in VR just fine
It's an incredibly gay way of saying that part of the game is tense.
My gums were sweating.
Anyone played Too Spicy? It's this weird as fuck light gun game
Its a reference to Chris' blood dumbass.
I did once. Don't remember much of it besides the music made by /the/ Hideki Naganuma
I played it. Felt kinda sluggish for a fast-paced gun duel game.
High and a winner, pay the front line, take the don'ts.
He's coming out again for a new point.
Get your bets now, ladies and gentlemen.
True. I'm still trying to get my hands on Umbrella chronicles.
The PS3 and Wii had a decent amount of arcade rail shooters if you think about it.
Does anyone remember a fps arcade game that played like an unreal tournament game and had a lady with arrow tits? I know it sounds ridiculous but I remember playing it growing up
Apparently it was called war final assault
A shame I didn’t see this mentioned yet. Also honorable mention to the one they had at Chuck E. Cheese
Dead Space Extraction is also good if anyone is interested
SELECT YOUR VIRTUAROID
youtube.com
This is pretty much what I would have said. Spot on. I would also add Carnevil
Doubles as arcade game and best workout machine you will ever get.
That Star Wars space game where you play as pilot and gunner
now i can finally ATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATA irl, thanks user
I fucking hate you normalfags who say this shit and haven't even read HnK
>le epic you are already dead XD what do you mean "what did I think of Souther"
THIS and Metal Slug X
That's a load of assumptions in arcade thread bruh.
Then what did you think of Cassandra and Souther?
The Point Blank series.
Has anyone ever been to Japan and tried out one of the Gundam Battle Pods? Heading there next year and it's one of the first things on my list to try, don't give a fuck if I can't read any moonrunes
Souther was a cool twist, when I realized why they call him South-er (Because I couldn't hear that word in engrish).
Cassandra should stay naked for the entire series.
Confirmed non-reader
Can you just read it, it's pretty short and fairly ridiculous
Why don't you watch Mad Max seeing as how Fisting of the North Arsehole pretty much rips off everything from it like all chink media does because they're not capable of anything else. You're a real fan, aren't you?
youtube.com
This. Note that the guns are airsoft.
>try to get some normalfag to stop being a secondary
>they immediately seethe
Why are normalfags like this? same thing happened when Automata released
Either Galaga, Dig Dug, or pic related.
Is this just Lucky and Wild in space?

>90's-core meme choice: Time Crisis 2

>Getting elitist about anime
There's your problem: You''re a retard
Why do normalfags think asking someone to read a manga is elitist?
Kind of, except it gave you a bit more freedom as you could actually move in a 3 dimensional space rather than just along a road.
Keep in mind, this was nearly 25 years ago; they had it at my local cinema, I was in fucking love with the thing as a kid
Here's some shitty grainy footage
Protip
Not everybody that replies to you are the same person.
But you assume its is anyway.
Why do weebfaggots passive aggressively reply to posts without actually replying to them? Are they that chicken shit that they can't directly address people on an anonymous imageboard?
>no music
WHAT'S THE FUCKING POINT????
Normalfags are fascinating, they feel threatened just because I said to read a good manga
Take your argument to management
Dance Dance Revolution is the best arcade machine. And if you think otherwise - you're a huge smelly NERD.
Any arcade machine that had a missing cover for the coin eject slot. Flicking a penny into it and getting credits always felt good.
More like you're just pitied due to you having a mental illness that precludes you from normal human interaction.
YES my local arcade was able to import the latest one from JP, really fun stuff
only smelly nerds would get on the ddr cabs
Anyone has played Virtua Cop?
Virtua On
That tank game where you drive around Tokyo
The cop game with movement tracking
>crtl+f
>no Silent Scope
Absolute plebians, all of you
How the fuck did Wangan Midnight get US releases in the mid-2010s but Initial D stopped getting US releases far before then?
Only correct answer.
Really wanted to play Confidential mission back in the day, but never managed to do so. Looked like a pretty cool game from afar, and obvious wordplay on mission impossible. Really dug the spy action movie parody theme.
It's pretty fun, but ultimately just feels like an inferior Virtua Cop. If you can get yourself a proper PC setup (i.e. not Aimtrak/Wiimote garbage), it emulates great with DEMUL.
Vampire night is the best of the underappreciated games.
>The cop game with movement tracking
Police 911 / The Keisatsukan?
Lazier man's DDR.
I grew to love the way it shouted "Sssilent Ssscope" with a lisp like grating metal.
House of the dead games are also available on PS3.
I loved that one, there was an arcade in my city that had this when I was 8 and I'd beg my parents to take me mainly for that. The arcade eventually shut down and became yet another Mennonite church
