What's done is done. It wasn't morally or ethically right, but all you can do is move forward, ya know? If you want some peace, there's a lot of merit in finding forgiveness in yourself and even more in being told that you have been forgiven. That's really only something that can be found in the Catholic church when the priest acts in the person of Christ in that moment.
