This "game" is a dream come true. How come nobody even mentions it more than twice a day in here? I mean, i can't animate a fucking furball in Blender or C4D, and in two weeks i feel like my potential in Dreams in unlimited.
Did that tonight, in less than 2 hours, just to feel the tank controls (that i calibrated myself).
Also, did this very quickly while listning to a podcast. I must say that i have no talent whatsoever, and i didn't even steal assets from other people on this one, just plain sculpture and lightning.
I don't think i've ever been this excited in my life.
Tank controls a shit, but try implementing Dino Crisis style camera movement in places.
Ian Watson
I’m having a really difficult time implementing an RPG style inventory system. Anyone have any good tutorials for that along with an inventory menu?
Colton Hernandez
did you animate that walk cycle or did you just use the one provided?
Adam Moore
That's the new procedural run I'm pretty sure
Angel Green
Nice, the grid + surface snap spray paint on a glowing black object is a very cool little technique.
Carter Bell
What help do you actually need?
This?
John Bennett
Is there a way to mirror animations? I'm making a 2D game and want my character's body to be facing the camera when crouching regardless of which direction they're facing. Like pic related.
If the character is 3d it will automatically do this as the animations are contextual to puppet not global space.
Just turn turn speed up to the max to instantly turn.
If you mean an actual sprite idk; maybe make a key frame where you rotate it 18p on the Y and then when moving right activate that. But obviously make sure to do this only using L2 for rotation because if you use R2 you are saving posit iona data as well as rotational.
Colton Moore
>Somebody just released a skateboarding game with the most in depth character customization I've seen >All the characters are furries
It's a 3d puppet. I just wasn't sure because I posed the puppet facing right like my SZ pic but didn't have the time to test it, so I thought maybe when facing left my character's back would be facing the camera. I'm glad to hear that's not the case. I have to say the amount of stuff in this game is overwhelming, in a good way. I've spent tons of time tinkering with getting my model looking and feeling right and just started animating new moves. I briefly tried making music and haven't even looked at level creation. There's a ton to unpack.
youtu.be/3cCo1t3IOWI Or this one is more complex (Acert is very good at logic but the guy gives me serial killer vibes and he was major bitch when he didn't win an impy)
Im guessing it is the same guy who made the furry kaiju game. He's good at making games but I do not like playing them.
Bentley Hernandez
I checked because that's the first thing I thought too and you're right. This is his only other game.
John Rogers
How hard is the logic to creat pivoting? The pivot looks goofy already with the legs fumbling with eachother
Carson Sanders
As much as I do think this game is fucking amazing, I have to say LBP was a step above for me. It's the lack of drop-in, drop-out co-op with randoms, as well as the ability to make countless sackboy costumes with props clipped on them that I miss.
Parker Garcia
I want to create a shooter game called Bimblor the Wizard where you're doing high speed spellcasting instead of shooting guns. Should it be a top down shoot em up (like Sparx segments in Spyro 3) or a Contra-like side scroller?
You can turn up turn speed, acceleration, deaccelration and reduce lean lag to make it look better but it's just the nature of proderual animation that's only based on a single pose. It can't cope well with sudden changes.
But you can totally make a complete cutsom walk cycle along with custom movement properties if you want to change the pivot point or whatever.
Andrew Fisher
Online multiplayer is coming in an update. Hopefully it will still have the jump in function like LBP1+2.
They are focusing on getting VR out as that is basically done other than making the UI stuff and tutorials etc. But online multiplayer should hopefully still come this year.
And yeah clipping those stars on a spring to sack boy will never be topped. Tho the imps are pretty cute.
I think it's weird you can't do saved games. Though I read somewhere about doing an NES-style password system to get around it, which sounds neat.
Oliver Campbell
how does development in this game work, are you able to write your own scripts? I saw some youtube videos of some games people built but it's hard to believe everything is modelled and programmed directly on the PS4 within the game
Cooper Scott
That is the case though. Instead of coding via text, though, you're just using a robust set of logics tools.
Jose Thompson
You can do a modern save system. You have 128 persistent variables that are saved and are persistent even if you leave the game. The only types of games that aren't really doable with this is massive scale RTS games. Because there is simply too many variables.
But even though 128 sounds quite small, you can actually save 7 values within that (it maxes at 7 digits so you store fewer bigger values) so it's more than enough for basically any game.
Dominic Cooper
It's visual coding similar to something like Construct 3 or UE4 blueprints or whatever the Unity equivalent plug in is called.
Joseph Rogers
Dreams is bad because any games worth playing aren't made in Dreams. It's not limited enough, unlike Mario Maker/Minecraft/etc which happens to be limited and people still manage to make garbage. There's also no carrot on a stick for the majority of people to chase.
Connor Myers
I played an amusement park sim that saves all your progress and what you've created so far. Meant I didn't have to beat the thing in one sitting.
Cameron Powell
Ok user, you dont have to play it, well just pretend to have fun until the burning fire of you being right consumes us. Is that ok?
I’m using Aecerts inventory template right now. My issue is just the logistics behind storing and equipping the items using the inventory
I agree the guy gives off serial killer vibes.
Neonthecoder is good and I watch a lot of his videos, but his inventory vids aren’t helpful at all for what I want to do. They’re too simplistic
Julian Price
That was very poorly written.
There already are good games made in Dreams. If you want it to be limited and drag n drop like those games it can be. The carrot on the stick is much greater than those games.
Mm show stuff on stream every week,They have a system of Mm picks, they are paying teams of people who prove to be good to make content, people are getting job offers through their dreams games.
Adrian Morgan
Have yet to sot down with the fame for a long time yet, how is the soundtrack? The licensed and original tracks in LBP1/2 were absolutely fucking 10/10, so I'm hoping theres some good shit in Dreams to jam to as well?
Justin Stewart
Yes. There is just one licensed song in this because obviously they wanted to make all the music in Dreams, because it would look bad if not.
Even the licensed song is an original cover. Not sure if I prefer it to My patch but it is very very good.
The original music from the story mode is all great too.
Plus people have just uploaded all the music from LBP1+2 anyway.
You can also import your own audio as long as it isn't protected by copyright. If you want your favorite Michael Jackson to playing in the background of your level you're just going to have to cope.
Tyler Martin
Are there multi layered dynamic tracks like in LBP? That shit amused me to no end in those games, being able to turn the drums or the singing off at will to set the mood for the part of your level.
Henry Johnson
Did that one dude that made the 'barbie doll' nude female base ever get unbanned?
Ian Hughes
Yes. The music in the story is mostly that sort of dynamic style.
Very easy to do in your own levels too.
Parker Smith
He got unbanned and it got put back up within a few hours of Mm seeing his post.
He has now painted on basic underwear which is dissapointing, I guess he just got scared and didn't want another Sony cunt to ban him again.
So just like Haus of Bevis (unbanned and altered out of fear which is a shame). I can see this happening over and over again. I wonder where Mm will draw the line and create the real split in the community.
Easton Smith
They just need to hurry up and make a 18 version. I know they obviously will never allow porn or heinous shit but I just don't want to have to tip toe around tasteful nudity and gore in case some Sony job worth sees it and I get banned.
I have only ever had 1 thing taken down but I 100% understand why (the game was called "Epic Creepy pasta. Exe" so I made the disc. a bunch of random symbols so it looked like spam if you didn't get it)
For me the upsetting one will be when they censor Tashunka 's stuff.
lmao sounds about right we can never have nice things
Blake Nelson
dreams schmeams
Tyler Ward

>Dreams: The game development toolkit where you can bring your very dreams to life >Everyone just makes shitty versions of AAA games
Joseph Hall
Has there been cute girl custom puppet animations uploaded yet? I figure it wouldn't be that hard to slap another character on a customized puppet and have it just work.
Henry Moore
No they dont. Don't Base your views of the entire game off YouTube videos. Most of the is original and most of the non original stuff is just meme animations rather than recreations.
Yeah I know, but I meant specifically animation sets that I could reuse.
Carson Smith
Yeah not too much custom walk animation on the whole at the minute.
You used to be able to make a feminine walk cycle very easy using the "sassyness" slider. But when they updated the procedural animations for full release they changed it so sassyness now makes the puppet shake their shoulders instead of their hips; more of a masculine swagger than sassyness.
Isaiah Scott
agree. LBP 1 and 2 were better games because user made levels always had a strong foundation with sackboy. levels could be poorly designed but the core gameplay of sackboy would always be solid. in dreams it's the reverse. you get games/levels that look good but gameplay wise controls like ass and is unpolished. in LBP there was always a clear ending to each level with a scoreboard which gave a satisfying ending to each level.
Angel Mitchell
Dreams and mario maker/LBP are not the same kind of game. Dreams is a casual game engine. It isn't meant to have the same normie appeal.
Benjamin Parker
The best games in Dreams are already better than the best LBP levels.
Lucas Johnson
Someone made go go hypergrind neat >made by the kaiju guy So no furry girls then I guess?
Carson Morgan
Yeah it's kindof sad how many people lack creativity. But concept artists are rarely the same people that are modelling/rigging/coding/animating/etc. You don't have to be creative to help make a creative game.
Jaxon Bennett
You can make a girl. Change her clothes, skateboard, hair color. It was pretty impressive but it's still a furry.
If that's what gets you to buy this then I'll try my best not to judge you.
Camden Carter
I wish I had this game came out 15 years ago, I was 17 at the time, and in my prime when it came to creativity, love and ideas for vidya. Now I'm just another jaded 30+ wageslave who is too tired for anything, let alone creative processes required for Dreams
Easton Hernandez
I just like cute characters it not always bout the lewd
Jace Flores
Somebody make a loss animation in this
Evan Thompson
Hey anons play my test scene for my upcoming dream I’m making and let me know how I could improve on the gameplay!
