AoL isn't my favorite but it's a damn good game. I'm surprised there haven't been any indie games that build off of it.
Why hasn't there been a good remake of Z1?
It's a garbage game liked by autistic contrarians.
T. 39 year old who actually played it when it first released
No.
Zelda II, because it's the best Zelda game.
I wanna say Majora or Spirit Tracks but Zelda II is very, very high on the list.
>Unique gameplay at the time
>Smooth, fluid controls that work on your momentum, higher jumps means more trajectory on your stabs
>Hard as balls but not unfair until the last areas
>Even in its own series it still stands out from the rest, has yet to be followed up on don't count the CD-I games you trolls
>Added a lot of staple elements from the series
>appeal to age fallacy
nobody asked how close you are to dying, you dried up old ballbag.
I won't say it's the best Zelda game out there, but it is a pretty fun one. Considering how far Metroidvanias have come since this was made I'd love to see a remake of this one like they did with Metroid 2.
>why is it The Adventure of Link?
Because it made perfect use of RPG ideas.
>Majora or Spirit Tracks
Lmao
fuck off i'm 35, you just have bad taste. platforming elements made Zelda games better in general so much so that all modern Zelda titles have platforming elements now.
>start playing
>can't even find the fucking candle
>Spirit Tracks
I love Zelda and I couldn't even finish Spirit Tracks.
>Spirit Tracks
might as well be called Babby's First Zelda, it's literally on rails.
Tell me how I know you didn't actually play the game.
i genuinely do like zelda 2 the best:
>easily the most intense and coolest combat
>world has an appealing sort of medieval flavor, a bit more down to earth than other zeldas but still with magic and fairies
>dungeons feel genuinely threatening like you're going down into a gauntlet
>a lot of cool powerups and spells
Its not a Zelda game is a Link game
And the best one is pic related
Ask me how I know you can't appreciate a solid joke.
Sure you were.
I'm not the one you originally replied to. btw (by the way) you never asked, king.
Because it was basically the fusion of Zelda's faster combat and fun world with Castlevania.
That's not me you're responding to.
I played it for about 20 minutes. Thought it was gay and babyish. Returned it to my friend.
#NOTMYZELDA
if he didn't say it, his opinion would be written off for being assumed to be a zoomer
Been playing through this again this year. I'm very nostalgic for it since it was my first zelda experience after link to the past. When I got the gamecube when I was like 11 I had the collectors disk. I played ocarina of time and didnt enjoy it a ton and majoras mask I didnt finish at the time but I thought zelda 2 was so cool.
I really liked the game but most of the zeldas are really obnoxious to me, alttp is good and zelda 2 is good because I dont have to pull out an instrument every 10 seconds but if others like oot and majora and zelda 1 good on them, but oracle of ages and zelda 2 are my favorites in the series
Seething zoomer niggers. Get the rope
This should have gotten a remake, not Link's Awakening.
You sum it up pretty well. I've not played a bad Zelda game, though I've not played them all but my favorites are all ones that toss you a sword and let you nuts.
Would have been too risky, since 2 is kind of a divisive game. Considering the success of Link's Awakening remake, I'm sure they'd do this one now.
I totally dont mind ocarina and majoras now and even wind waker is one of my favs but having to whip out an instrument and play a song every few minutes which majoras super guilty of and so is windwaker but windwaker just stuck with me more probably because it was super different.
People talk up Zelda 1 for its influence on the industry but Zelda 2's is even greater. Zelda 1 might have carried the torch from the dungeon crawlers before it and led to sandbox RPGs down the road, but Zelda 2 established the template every action adventure game still follows to this day, using an expanding world as a backdrop for a deliberately sequenced set of linear objectives with gameplay styles partitioned between fighting and adventuring.
i'm surprised they haven't tried another zelda 1 remake
I dont even want a "remake" as much as just an aesthetic update. Zelda 1's gameplay and map is still perfect I would just like to see newer graphics. I've always wanted Zelda 1 in ALttP graphics; amazingly, no one has made this even for Zelda Classic
I played that shit on release at 24 and I was upset that they never revisited the style
Zelda 2 is a good game but not as good as Zelda 1. There's just too many thoughtless design choices. The enemy encounter system is janky, perspective switching bottlenecks make the world awkward to navigate, the linearity strangles the feeling of exploration, and Zelda didn't need a fucking EXP system.
In the original you get a bunch of visceral tools with multiple purposes: even the meat is useful for baiting enemies. In AoL items mostly boil down to keys for locks: obstacles get automatically cleared at designated locations. You don't get to whack things with your hammer, set things on fire with the candle, or toss shit with the glove. Spells help, but most of them are overly expensive bullshit.
It's still absolutely worth getting past the initial clumsiness. The challenge makes it more compelling than most Zeldas. You'd think bouncing on shit with the downward stab would stop being fun after a while but it doesn't.

Isn't this a faithful remake of Zelda 1 with LTTP graphics?
youtube.com
I would love to see that, just to see how they envision the dungeons at least.
I'm 38. I just know posting here at my age is something to be ashamed of, not boasted about. But at least I'm not old with shit taste too.
Those graphics are from the gameboy game. Links awakeing.
Links sword is way too short in Zelda 2. You have to hug enemies at all times.
Zelda II is one of the best, but I think Link's Awakening and the Oracle games are better.
