I like to view it as natural selection. If they die, they have no more use and do not deserve to breed

Don't blame me, blame the RNG bullshit

>Game has perma-death
>Game has unique characters with personal stories
>Game has low enough health and high enough potential for RNG that a single bad crit can result in a character permanently dying
Permadeath in FE is fucking retarded. It's a fine mechanic, but you can't have all three of these at once.

Valkyria Chronicles has 1 and 2, but not 3 because you need to really play dumb for a character to die permanently. Xcom has 1 and 3, but not 2 because the characters aren't unique. And it's fine in both those. In FE it's just obnoxious.

best fire emblem to start with on pc? i can emulate

Awakening

>implying game play is the only thing that matters

>Character dies
>Clearly I made a mistake, run isn't perfect.
>reset, try again.
I view it almost like a dynamic puzzle, so I have no shame in resetting unless I deem it fine to let them die to keep on with the run.
I don't care about finishing a map and having the unit back, I just wanna finish the map perfectly, no casualties or missed objectives.

>one meme image of an unfortunate event is my excuse for save stating every turn

Ur gay

Something similar happened to me in my last playthrough of Blazing Blade, I sent Kent to kill some low heath enemy then he missed and died to a crit

Fates, echoes, any of the gba fe games, POR (its a bit obnoxious with how slow it is but you get used to it), and new mystery are all good picks

If yoh are scared of a crit just send a unit bulky enough to take the crit or deal with the enemy that has high crit on player phase without taking a retaliation. Some enemies are just gonna have to be a risk for you like elthunder mages or berserkers, you just gotta deal with it

>he doesn't reset when one of his good units die
Enjoy not being able to finish conquest :^)

>Minor character dies
>Dialogue in later chapters becomes more dramatic
Path of Radiance is good for this. If Boyd or Oscar dies then Rolf's recruitment scene becomes kino
I also like how if you manage to lose Boyd, Oscar, and Titania somehow in Chapter 1 then everyone tells you how much you fucked up

>he doesn't try to better himself

you get better by rolling with the mistakes

I do not give two shits so I just play on Casual.
There's magical healing and dragon magic and shit, I don't gotta explain a damn thing.

Are nu emblem fags this easy to impress?

But how else am I gonna get S rank Survival?

been playing since fe7 came out in america

i just play on casual or use save states.

Why not? If you weren't supposed to you would have to make a suspend-type save file at the beginning of a battle, and resetting without finishing the battle would wipe your squad.

or you can git gud

Please play my games how they were intended to be

No

>save stating
WAIT CAN YOU DO THAT NOW?

But FE4 had built-in savestates.

Does letting a unit die in Three Houses change the story in any way? No? Go fuck yourself nigger

I dont train every unit I pick and choose 1 full team, so even if just 1 dies every now and then I dont want to get to the point where its impossible to beat the game making me start from the beginning

The game showers you with replacement units, just slot one of them in when one of your main guys bites it. Lowmanning is usually optimal anyway, so it's not like you need a full team to win.

The very first fire emblem game I played was awakening and I lost a shitton of units because I decided to choose Lunatic difficulty. Even when I reset it was still bad. Afterwards, I decided that if a unit dies, I'll become more reckless with the Lord/MyUnit to determine if I was in a "naturally hard scenario" or I made a careless move and I make it through the map

Attached: 1561586220450.jpg (481x565, 18K)

you can easily beat the game if you dont lose every unit. you get plenty of replacement units and promotion items.

>Mostly gimmick laden maps with bullshit tied in.
>Amazing gameplay.
Mmm, no?

Robin solo is the easiest way to beat Awakening on any difficulty. Everyone else is filler.

explain how you get better by relying on overpowered prepromotes the game gives you for exactly this reason

Overpowered prepromotes are a rarity. Characters like Pent and such.
In most fire emblem games, most of your best units are the ones you start with.

Unless you're playing for ranks, there's no special reward for babying weak growth units. Making the most of your high base units is both more consistent and more rewarding.

Don't remind me Valkyria Chronicles is dead, user. I love that series.

>MC dies
>game forces you to restart
Wow, thanks for turning me into a casual game

I you haven't played a single game, start with the Super Famicom ones, they have translations now.

>Start with the two games that are almost nothing like the other games
???? I love 4 and 5, but those are not good entry points into the series.

he will never play them if he starts with new ones

Not true. 4 and 5 were some of the last games I played in the series.

most people don't think like you, with most long running franchise games people usually think old=bad new=good

God she's so hot

Gameplay is significantly more important than anything else.

Nothing wrong with wanting to play Fates. Trying out the game for yourself and forming your own opinion is much more respectable than echoing the opinion of other people in your circle.

Examples?

So limiting yourself makes you a better player?
FE6 Marcus and FE8 Seth are the best units in the game, why wouldn't you use them?

I'm playing fe6 iron man for my first playthrough. So far I've lost:
Noah to a 1% thunder crit
Lance to an axe fighter with a halberd
Lugh to a killer axe crit (one turn after I promoted him)
I'm enjoying it but since I'm playing normal mode Rutger Shanna and my paladins can just steamroll everything for the most part.

>using all the options the game gives you makes you a bad player

Rutger and Perceval are even more dominant on Hard mode, and Shanna is still top tier even without HM bonuses.

That's no fun. You can solo one unit for any game

You can, but it's usually not so much better than playing "normally" like how it is in Awakening and maybe Revalation. Even in FE4, you might as well use units other than Sigurd/Seliph because of free deployment and Arena. Lowmanning is usually better than fielding a full team, but Awakening really takes it to another level unless you're grinding or have a fleet of Galeforce kids.

I wish Camilla would reset whenever I cum on her face so that I could continue to do it every time she resumes

With save states at the start of every turn?

>lowmanning is usually better
No, in most scenarios in most games the additional units you deploy contribute in some way. Look up a recording of an ironman ranked ltc run and you'll see how players make the most of the lesser units. Awakening is difference because most of the time any units other than robin/chrom and morgan/lucina detract from your team significantly, making victory harder, less reliable, and requiring more turns.

3H got a good reception so pretty much

are you thinking of thea?
Shanna doesn't get HM bonuses, though she is a top tier unit in both modes yes

No.

>game punishes you for not immediately grasping its gimmick autism
trash

low manning as in training and distributing resources to a small amount of units. you can obviously give exp and weapons to other units and use them but the party is heavily tilted power-wise into your best 3-4 units.

>wtf, i have to actually observe the battlefield and plan forges/tonics instead of just throwing marcus 8 tiles forward and killing everything? this game sucks

I'd agree with that but I wouldn't call it "lowmanning" to focus exp on a few units since you have plenty of units that perform well with minimal investment. I thought lowmanning was only deploying or only making use of a small number of units.

>planning forges with rng minerals
I like Conquest but fuck MyCastle.

make reliable tactics
(and fe4 records deaths even if you reset so it's not like you can savescum through everything)

that is what you get for not abusing your pre promotes idiot

Attached: meqah.png (233x258, 23K)

Always play safe
Unit has a 2% crit?
Don't risk it
Always make least accurate attack first so if you miss you can have a plan b or c to deal with an enemy
Check enemy stats before doing anything crazy

>DONDON SAVE MEEE AHHHH
>THE ENEMIES HAVE SKILLS
*turns difficulty to normal*
yup, its elitist time

You can get around FE4 counting losses by resetting the chapter from the beginning. You get 3 "deaths" anyway, which is more than enough for FE4 if you know what you're doing.

im doing a ironman run on 6 and lost most of my good units to stupid missplays on chapter 3

im on chapter 7 and im technically forced to deploy merlinus, how fucked i am

Attached: me retard.jpg (686x678, 207K)

dondon of "horseslayers are bad design because they force you to reset" fame?
This is who is considered a good FE player?

Is Three Houses any good? Ive just been cooming to the porn, and my girlfriend is asking me what I want for my birthday. I've only played Birthright for the record.

I loved rewinding in Echoes. It was really good for fixing up some dumb bullshit you didn't expect from the AI or something and made it feel like if I lost a unit it was really on me so I never tried to reset since I never felt like the deaths were unfair.

>implying anything else matters in this series

Do you have Marcus, Rutger and atleast one bow unit?
If so it could still be salvagable

you really need to rush the green units. make sure to stay out of the range of pulling wyverns. how they work is by counting the distance they can move in 2 turns. if you are in range of that amount of space then you will trigger the wyvern. are you on normal or hard mode?
its good on a first playthrough, really fucking good, but on the second playthrough its a bit tedious and the third playthrough is fucking torture. everyone has a different opinion on the best first 2 routes, i played all 4 and i think blue lions and silver snow are probably my 2 preferred routes.

>Planning things.
>In a game where shit is an RNG fest on whether you find a certain item or not.
Conquest is passable, but stop trying to pretend gimmick ridden maps are the Pinnacle of design.

>Xcom has 1 and 3, but not 2 because the characters aren't unique.
Some are. The Chinese dude EU was required for a mission or two to happen and if you do the tutorial in 2 you get a quasi unique ranger that triggers unique dialogue from some bosses.

Skills that hide information from you are horseshit, faggot.
Hiding information from the player is never a good thing.

I wish FE was a little like Gungnir and units only died from overkill damage, anything within normal parameters just makes the unit retreat.

It's okay, not fantastic, but okay. It has good characters and worldbuilding and the story is above-average for Fire Emblem, but that really isn't saying much. If you liked the reclassing autism you could pull in Fates, you might get something out of the class system until you realize that Brigand into Wyvern is always optimal, but the game is easy enough on any non-Maddening difficulty so that level of optimization will never be necessary. Other than that, it's not really similar to Birthright except for having open field rout maps and (potentially) infinite grinding.

Its usually a punishment for losing a growth unit but plenty of prepromotes have huge utility from weapon ranks like calil and louise or not contesting a promotion item like zealots or echidna or libra.
You can easily search for items in other castles or use ore trade

If I was Byleth I would masturbate all the time and force Sothis to pay attention to it

What skills are hiding information?
Yeah hes pretty smart, he knows a lot about the games and does ltcs. Hes a very mechanical guy like ghast

all FE give you tons and tons of additional recruits throughout the game. you dont have to reset to beat the game.

according to the ranking system, yes unironically

Is exploiting the arena fair game?

?

Attached: ranks.png (1629x645, 53K)

As long as it's used the way it was intended, as in, not savestate scumming like a fag, then yes.

All the castle feature does is give you food and ore and support point.

Who might these """people""" be?

Imagine if fates wasn't irredeemably bad
That's 3H

>add edge to story and characters
>throw away balance
>have shitty maps
>add life sim to pad out content
WOW 3H GOOD

Yo that map, the forblaze map, echidnas map (i had tate and echidna die before i could recruit them), the frozen lance map, arcadia, the illia castle map, all of those are satanic

How should I build my Corrin for conquest lunatic? I've already done ninja and swordmaster.

it depends what you want more. do you want a self sufficient corrin that can reliably complete maps with more fast/low turn gameplay? go draco. do you want a cheesy bullshit corrin? go ninja corrin so that you can build shield gauge more easily and use the best type of weapon in the game. another added bonus is that master ninja gets swords back so you can use the good ass yatos later in the game. do you want a reliable mixed tank corrin with good 1-2 range and survivability? do dark knight with dragon fang, malefic aura, life taker, vengeance if you can spare a heart seal, and nobility. tomes are very useful and a forged thunder is better than a yato imo. you dont even need to go to nohrian noble.
for the following builds speed is best for the first two of them and do magic or def for the dark knight.

I just went with nohr noble when I played, briefly dipping into cavalier for a couple skills. The dragonstone helps for tanking and magic / magic swords are good for 1-2 range.

i managed to clear it with a lot of luck, this is such a trainwreck, my rutger is base str, dieck is meh and my best unit is ward, this is so hilarious i dont think im gonna last long enough

it is still so much fun and now i can understand why some people say that iron man was the way fire emblem was originally designed

Attached: iron man.png (800x480, 521K)

the only time I'd consider skipping nohr noble is if I have ninja weapons for their debuffs, draconic hex is too good to pass up otherwise

the most important thing to know however is that if you go male you have to do dragon talent or felicia will be useless. heres why. felicia can partner seal at level 13 (extremely easy since her exp gain as a maid is very high) if you pair her and male corrin to turn into a malig knight and start grinding tome rank. once she grabs trample at level 15 you can heart seal her into a strategist and she will make corrin gain extra move, be a healer, have trample and savage blow to pad her huge damage deficit, and give corrin like 5 res or something crazy like that and -2 damage from her personal so shes super good at pair up botting.
to review
maid till level 13 > malig knight till level 15 for savage and trample > strategist till 20. its her only good option in lunatic mode.
otherwise if you pick female you dont have to worry about any of this because jacob can just heart seal into paladin for 10-12 and then hit the bench.

wow your team is in rough shape. no lance alan sue shin or lugh.

the worst thing is that my thany had 3 whole str level ups in 5 levels, just to die to archer ambush in chapter 6, im so sad about that because every time i use her she is really bad

did you lose your flyer?

>still can't wear the Enlightened One's outfit in the Monastery
One fucking job unintelligent systems and you blew it

wait a second, no sue or thany? Someone tell me which route this guy is headed towards, since if it's ilia he can get the gaiden as long as zealot survives but I think you need sue for the sacae gaiden

this is literally why I avoid this trash series

>pick up FE Three Houses as my first game
>beat Normal a couple of times
>finally try hard mode

Attached: external-content.duckduckgo.com.jpg (474x266, 21K)

illia is the default but he cant get shin so he cant change it. he also can recruit tate still if he uses klein.

Where the fuck did this mindset even come from?
For as long I've been familiar with the series resetting the map on a death was the standard since no one liked seeing their units die.

...

Hard is baby mode shit, you'll be fine.

The games give you enough disposable units so that you won't need to

You wouldn't be able to beat most games on normal mode

my current corrin is +MAG -SPD reclassed into a wyvern rider at level 4, and by chapter 10 had a C rank in axes, bulk that matched belka's, and a magic stat that matched camilla's. once she promotes i'm keeping her as a bolt axe general until wary fighter, and then sealing into nosferatu sorceror to be a really fucking obnoxious drain tank. it's pretty effective even without the defensive investment from wyvern rider, but it feels a little shakier without something like vantage.

also going to shoot for a kinshi knight benny, because it sounds hilarious

how the fuck are you making her a sorceror, knight, and draco?

>also going to shoot for a kinshi knight benny
How the fuck do you even get that?

I used savestate to finish almost all the games

you could get selena X benny and then heart seal selena into a peg and partner seal benny into a peg.

Redpill me on conquest's kid units, I haven't used most of them other than Xander's kid and Forrest as a back up staff bot.

i'm going with wyvern rider talent, and kept her glued to effie for the first few chapters until they A ranked, and going to marry her off to either odin or leo. i guess you could A rank nyx or ophelia, but they never turn out well for me

he should be able to seal into it if he marries mozu

Attached: 528bc479f506ad7963d35c72fe487e7ac0307c74_00.jpg (256x256, 17K)

Kaze’s daughter and Kaeton’s daughter can be really strong

hooly kek

I never get kaze paired with anyone for some reason even though I use him everytime.

ophelia has an insane map with tons of tomes and stat boosters. shes the only mage besides leo or felicia thats really worth using on higher difficulties. its pretty easy to just marry elise for a broken ass ophelia and then recruit her around chapter 20 or 21 so she can offspring seal right away with very high stats. you can pass down vantage to her and make her a nosferatu tank sorceror but dark knight is just so much better so idk why you would do that. nyx is also a good mother to pass down movement +1 or lucky 7.
nina is a very good unit to put shining bow on and shes a total mage destroyer which is essential to cq lategame. she also gets staff utility but her staff rank is kinda low. i like using her whenever i have niles though.
midori is probably my favorite of the children, she gets potent potion which ups her stat gains from tonics and merchants are just stupid good units with spend thrift. she can also run bullshit skills like miracle to proc with her personal. salvage blow and good fortune is kinda meme but her biggest utility is the potent potion and spend thrift. shes amazing. she also has good base growth rates for a child unit.
percy is pretty amazing growth-wise. if he gets any hp transfer that puts him at 50% or above hes basically good because his other growths are just that high. i personally get him every playthrough because arthur is just such a good pair up bot early in the game but ive only used him once

the only other child unit i used was sophie and shes good early in the game with defender and elbow room and shelter oh my but she always falls off for me and i end up just benching her for xander and other child units.

Why is it worth training elise!ophelia as a combat unit when you have elise or nyx?

you dont need to train her, you can just offspring seal her late in the game and have an absolute nuke unit. nyx also just sucks hard.

why is fire emblem so much comfy to play on android compared to pc, i know it is designed to be portable but playing on pc is really akward

theres something magical about holding a game like that in your hands

Still, you'll have elise either way and if you're making elise!ophelia then you could partner seal elise if you wanted more classes. Doesn't elise have an absurd magic growth? If their purpose is to kill stuff with lightning (I doubt either of them can take a hit) then what sets them apart?

>want to waifu Rinkah
>but her stats and growths suck balls
Is Birthright hard mode easy enough so I don't need to play eugenics with my units?

I would use kid units more of their maps didnt turn into complete bullshit so quickly. How the fuck are you even supposed to be able to keep the green units alive on ophelia's map? Velouria's map is on the level of the goddamn endgame chapters, who thought it was a good idea to have the child unit spawn on the opposite side of the map, behind a whole ass squad of mixed damage with debuffs, staffbots with draw, weakness and freeze, and 3 ballistae? it's just too much to deal with most of the time, especially compared to maps like Shigure, Midori, and Kana which are essentially free. Ophelia's and lucha shota libre's maps are challenging, but they at least give secondary resources that are both attainable and very worth it

Attached: EHdPQvLU8AUntoj.jpg large.jpg (768x1024, 98K)

elise has like 75% magic growth but her tome rank is gonna be so far behind ophelias that she cant use lightning or thunder or missletain. i dont see any problem having leo elise and ophelia be the premier mages and ophelia has a super good personal skill for mjolnir and missletain that set her apart from leo and elise. it also doesnt hurt to have a mage that isnt paper thin like elise.

birthright lunatic mode is easy as shit (and quite bad overall) and rinkah is actually one of the absolute best pair up partners, just look at the stats she gives you

>figured I'd do my first Valkyria Chronicles run without reseting if a unit dies

whats valk like? its tactics right?

a mix of real time and turn based tactical combat yeah. First one is great but has some really fucked up "if you don't know what's going to happen next enemy turn, then perish" moments that can be pretty unfair

Can you get 100% crit reliably? That would be cool, but I don't see how you'd get there. And if you don't get 100% crit it's not something you can count on so why bother.

you could get arthur personal for 15, mjolnir for 40 at maximum forge, bibliophile for 10, puts you at 65 and then ophelia caps skill at 31 so thats another 15. with gamble from arthur she can reach 10 more for a grand total of 90 crit rate. the last boost she can get is leos and effies child giving +12 crit on pair up with an S support
serenesforest.net/fire-emblem-fates/nohrian-characters/supports/support-bonus/
at the end of the day you have 87 crit and the minus 15 crit avoid on enemies from arthur personal for a grand total of 102. hopefully the math is all right.

also i left out death blow because its not possible to get an oni in conquest as far as i know.

you could get it from corrin

I don't use forges and don't want to use arthur or leo's kid but that's a nice novelty

i meant to say gamble from charolette* but anyways ophelia is good regardless and she only costs 1 map to get. she has an explosive late game which is great for the last 3-4 maps where there is a huge amount of generals, berserks, mages, etc.

I want to suck Camilla's fat cock

Do you guys like reverse recruitment hacks? Which games do you think have the best ones?

I read that as
>he rests on a dudes dick

no, I think the maps in fe games are balanced very deliberately based on what the player has access to and those hacks end up being a big downgrade. same with randomizers, it's just quantity over quality. I'd rather just play the default game over again.

I've never played a fire emblem game? Whats the best place to start.

thracia is a really good starting point

Yes.

Attached: 1579241149324.png (630x408, 138K)

So make a fire emblem game that is VERY HARD and make it so that the game is designed around units DYING so make a LOT of them to appear both EARLY and LATER game so that when you actually DO finish the game, that it feels more REWARDING.

Path of Radiance if you have never played a turn based tactics game because it's easy as shit.

FE7 is always a safe bet.

FE3/Shadow Dragon is very classic and straightforward gameplay. If you can handle either the old clunky game or get past the DS animations and art style, it's a good start.

Tear Ring Saga if you can handle not being a perfectionist about everything because it's fucking great.

I barely even stick to nuzlocke rules in Pokemon because my favorites keep dieing to shit RNG, I don't want to also apply that to FE

Not gonna lie, that one guy's video about letting go of the 'fear of missing out' compulsion with these games really unshackles you and what you can get out of these games over any other standard rpg game.

is it true that awakening lunatic is cancer?

Here is the new cancer infecting the FE fanbase, everyone.

No, not even on the first playthrough. It gets tedious about two chapters after you unlock lost items and the gameplay never gets good either.

It's Disgaea levels of fucking boring where it's just about numbers instead of any tactics. You grind up 1 or 2 pair ups who clear the whole map, only to ever watch out for the counter skill. Using Frederick the first few chapters is the only enjoyment you'll get out of it.

Only Ignatius' map is bullshit, and that's only late game at that.

Absolutely. Awakening has ambush respawns out the ass on on so many of its maps that will overwhelm your weaker units.
And it gets worse when you consider how open all of its maps are and how often the objective is to rout

I don't want to lose any of my characters in older FE games. I focus on playing well and preventing it at all, but sometimes shit happens. Cry me a river and drown yourself in it if how other people play singleplayer games bothers you that badly.

>having an imperfect map
bitch I'll reset until I finish the map with everyone alive, every town or house visited, every chest opened, every side mission completes, and every single enemy is a lifeless corpse.

And I will reset it as many times as it takes until I get it down right.

better than low-manning you're actually better off using pre promotes instead. You have these pre-built semi strong units to fall back on emergencies while you focus on your trainable little guys. Of course this all depends on the specific game you have in mind but for the most part you can use FE7 Mstcus, Titania, Seth, etc. and only give them boss kills to level up while everyone else gets the main map kills.

You are such a homo.

>play game
>ignores is gameplay is boring as long as there is a good story
Why not just read a book or watch a move at that point?

I'm more surprised playing Fire Emblem regularly (at least to me) has become an "Ironman" thing.

>nyx also just sucks hard.
Oh my...
Nyx is widely considered to be in the upper part of Mid.

>nyx also just sucks hard.
For what reasons make you say that? Because she isn't Corrin, Xander or Ryouma?
