I bought DQ11 on the PC, not realizing the switch got their own definitive version with extra content. Should I refund this badboy?

yes, you should. battle animation speed up alone makes the game significantly better. The default speed that you can't change in the original version feels like slowmo.

Yeah honestly you should

If you have a Switch, yes. If you don't, just play the PC version. In my opinion some of the new content for Switch is detrimental to the experience (at least on a first playthrough) and some of it can be modded on PC. The Crossbow Target sidequest isn't on Switch too so that's exclusive to the PC and PS4 versions.

ok thanks boys, the normal price is 80$ on steam so I figured it wouldnt be a drastically inferior version.

Bamboozled again.

oh fuck, now I'm just more confused nigga. Checking mods on the nexus now though and they all seem to be recolors of hair/armor

DQ11 Switch
-Turbo battle speed option only Switch, you can grind shit out or go through the story faster
-Extra party member vignette chapters, more character growth and playtime is always nice (I'm a big fan of Rab's vignette, felt sad as fuck for the old man)
-Tons of new quality of life changes (extra monsters to ride on, crafting changes)
-2D playable from start to finish or swap between 2D or 3D modes as you like (with some minor caveats)
-Won't matter to some but you can select who you marry in the game, you're stuck with the default blonde girl on the PC/PS4/3DS original. ----> You can marry Jade

Yes, the very fast battle speed alone makes switch the best version.

Game has tens of hours of combat

PC version is 1080p/60fps. It's better.

Solid points, bros. I admit not a lot of the changes mean much to me but faster animations in turn based rpgs is fucking huge after 10 hours or so.

the forge improvements alone make the switch one worth it

being able to use it and buy materials anywhere is such a game changer

Plus, better challenges.

I hope the switch version drops it's price soon or has a sale.

Oh sweet, a DQ thread. I recently just bought this and FF6 off of Amazon to play. What am I in for?

Turn based JRPG

DQ5 is prob--no, definitelly the best DQ game. I hope you bought DS version so you can marry best girl.

Yeah, I bought the DS version. I’ve been on a classic JRPG kick ever since beating FF7 and Chrono Trigger and I want more.

Cheeky

If you can, yes. There's no reason to play anything but the Switch version if that's an option for you.

>FF6
Is a legendary jrpg for a good reason.
Relm is superior.

there is no way to speed up on pee cee?

Is the PS2 or 3DS version the better one?

Attached: DQVIII.png (320x512, 359K)

3DS.

I love Jade but Veronicas attitude and manner make me hard...

Was shattered she wasn't given a cameo in the movie then I realised why once it got to the shitty part.

PS2 for graphics, 3DS for content and QOL.

it's just a few costumes and be able to choose your wife at the end. That's it. And for that you're sacrificing graphics big time. The blur alone is so nasty Square ended up removing the targets quest because no one would be able to find it on Switch. Not to mention way worse textures and effects.

My fav dq is 4, get that also.

I’ve been playing 11 on the Switch, first DQ for me. I just slapped Dora but for the life of me I can’t tell what party comp I should be running. Jade and Rab hit like trucks but Veronica is useful for hordes of enemies. And then Sylv is just there, haven’t even used him.

is dq7 better on 3ds or original ps1? not liking the look of the 3ds version

Sylv is great in certain fights to control statuses. Also for xp farming later.

Tfw will never be bullied by her.

Have everyone equipped at all times and swap them around. Erik and Sylvando aren't too useful for random encounters unless you went for Boomerang Erik. Sylvando is great for boss fights, you should have Hustle Dance on him.

I agree about the looks, but the 3DS version is an overall better experience. But go for the PS1 version if you're feeling more oldschool. If your emulator or however you're playing has a fast forward option, it's cool.

Is Sylv just a supportive character? Does his weapon choice matter?

Sylvando is amazing at that point in the game. Mostly for his cheap group healing. He was invaluable to me beating Dora with his ability to remove status.
If you're playing with harder enemies Veronica felt like the most useless character to me. One hit from a boss, or tougher monster, and she just keeles over and dies.

Yeah, he's mostly there for support.
Knives are generally the best for him since they can raise his charm by a lot, and also because the knife skills can increase Erik's damage by a lot.

The original is still good but the Switch version is the truly the definitive one.

Are whips or boomerangs ever used?

> Jade marriage
The game doesnt call it marriage. Its a platonic relationship and only a coomer cant see that.

PS1 for me. 3DS is too easy, has annoying accents and the beginning is too fast, making it less atmospheric.

I used whips for Sylv just because I thought they fit his character. Daggers might be better, so you can setup for Erik, but outside of that all his useful skills can be used with any weapon.
In act 3 I switched Erik to boomerangs outside of bosses. It seemed to help him a bit with damage when I didn't want to go through setting him up.

Honestly any weapon will work fine for any character. Just use what you want.

Yeah, he's full support. Even one of his final skills he learns is giving his turn to one of the girls in the party. Go either whips for status effects or knives for status effects that Erik can take advantage of.

Specially for grinding. I admit, DQ XI doesn't have that much grind, but when you want need a specific drop, or if you decide to hunt a rare monster (I hate those so much), is a life safer. Specially for the later, Items you may need to have control to steal the item, but the "rarefinds" you can just let the game play itself if fast mode.

>mfw trying to find the rare Iron Maiden

So, we are ignoring the fact that every character in your party treat it as a marriage and even Drustan have a dialogue about love and how both the Hero and Jade would have most likely get married if not for the fall of Dundrasil, when you ask him to live with ther.

Even Rab is all proud and such about how the Dundrasil line and the Heliondor line are about to mix together, if you talk with him after the fact!

I have nightmares about that Doll! I swear I gained close to ten levels for each character. maybe more, looking for that dam thing!

Stick with PC, dude. Jade, Serena, and __Erik__ nude mods are right around the corner

Okay, but what about Veronica?

Newfag to the series. Can you marry the loli too?

In the Switch version, yes.
In the others you're forced to marry Gemma.

... you can live with her. I refer only to the dialogues you get if you choice Jade, which are as explicit as I quoted, but you get a different one for each character in your party, and I have no idea how your party, Drustan (the one who allows this to happen), and the town reacts or talk about choosing Veronica. Very sure it's none of them will call the Hero and Veronica love birds as they do with Jade.

>shypox
>super shypox
What? Is that just a lolsorandom way of saying introvert?

>buying the same game twice for different systems

The fuck user. One or the other, goddamn.

In all honestly, Gemma isn't bad, but you expend so little time with her, that I can't even try to care that much for her.

If the Hero wasn't a place holder for "me" and had more character of his own (like in the flashbacks), fine, I could take Gemma as his partner as the game originally intended. But the other than his Haircut, Eleven has the charisma of a potato, and I am "force" to self insert myself, and as I said... I just lack any worth while investment on Gemma, other than a "I guess that was a cute moment"

I know Jade is the popular choice, but by means, I also rather Serena by all means. Heck, even the Queen from the frozen country give me more a character to invest with!

Gotcha, thanks.

More like Your Hero our your party (or both) will decide to waste a turn or two having a panic attack of pure embarrassment in the middle of the fight. I tried on the Demo, and I honestly can't recommend it. Specially for your first playthrough of the game, that RNG is infuriating.

DQ7 PS1 is one of THE LONGEST GAMES EVER MADE. Might actually be the longest.
Just a forward warning.

Funny, you ran into the same thing I did but I realized before I even bought the game. There was a sale on Amazon for the Switch and there was a sale for the PC version and by the time I realized the Switch version has more stuff in general, the sale for the Switch version was already over.

I kind of hope they might port some of the additions to the other non Switch versions but ehhh...I kind of wonder if thats happening

Boomerangs can get somehow OP at the end game in all but Bosses. They are also key to pass the Wheel Of Harma Trials.

Hard to say, not that long ago, Square would re sell the Definitive Edition on PS4 and PC as a new version, as a Final Mix. But times have (slowly) changed in that regards, so some DLC isn't at all out of the question.
