Ragnarok Online

>Ragnarok Online

More like autism online. This entire game is one big beginners trap. You need to be a basement dwelling nerd and like math to create a character that isn't complete trash. You basically need to consider every variable and have a build ready with skills, stats and gear already distributed before you even start playing the game.
How is this good game design?

If stacking one stat is too hard for you then you deserve to hang.

Enjoy being useless during WoE.
No, scratch that. Enjoy being useless in general.

>RPG requires that you put thought into how you build your character

Oh the humanity.

Post server, faggots.

I know all FFXIV threads are required to open this way now, but you don't have to do this with Ragnarok, user.

Pre-Renewal or Renewal?

>be zoomer
>play video game that requires thinking
>get mad
>eat some tide pods instead

Attached: 1547502154286.gif (326x281, 110K)

>spend months on a character in the early years of RO
>decide you don't like the build
>have to delete it and start all over

Dunno if RO later let you reset stats but deciding between sword and spear knight was a pain in the ass back in the early going.

Attached: 1581270813315.png (472x580, 220K)

I loved the fact that there was no do-overs in this game. If you fuck up your stats or skill distribution - that was it. So you get Knights and Wizards with strange builds in the game (this was during the early 00's when I played)

Rebirth resets everything, so there's that. After that there's no turning back.

what the fuck lol

Maxing your main stat + vit with left overs into whatever what sure is hard

Cards mattered the most, not stats

...what? the 'math' is literally just sums and the gear is obvious
are you admitting you're actually too dumb for iro, a game played by preteen pinoys?

Im itching for some WOE, what's a decently populated server and that its also mid to low rates?

Attached: 1572637854676.jpg (800x546, 55K)

That's where the social aspect of RO came into play back in the day.
You have so many possibilities that the best way to know shit is to ask other experienced players of that class. Sure, guides existed but there was always discussion to be had.

OriginsRO. Pre-Renewal which is as close to the classic Ragnarok Online as possible with no custom items and no donations.

>trw your main source of income used to be selling red potions in the Prontera sewers

Looking good user, thank you!

Attached: 1574635597358.png (255x198, 7K)

Based.

>until a newfag merchant came and undercut by selling it 39z a pop

How do you respond to this without sounding mad?

In pre-renewal, status still matter the most. That's why people use weapons with 4 slots instead of the ones with high attack.

By teaching them a lesson they won't forget.

Attached: karma for undercutting.webm (400x300, 2.3M)

You become that guy.

i played on a 5x private server for so long and I never realized how unoptimal i was as a kid that the highest level I reached was like lvl 93 on a server that skips to the transcendance class on lvl 90.
i just liked playing an agi berserk LK and just grinded stupid shit like thara frogs and evil druids all day. No one in my guild ever told 12-year-old me that i was just deadweight in WoE.

>the (((merchants guild))) destroys the honest economic system of a young blonde and then rapes her in a back alley while everyone ignores it
I had no idea ragnarok was so redpilled

The game is so different now. Not only is there unlimited resets now, you're pretty much forced to change your build every 5-6 months since new WPE gear comes out that changes the meta. Almost all the meta gear now gives insane bonuses akin to or even better then MVP cards if your stats reach a certain threshold. So you just pump your stats until it hits the require amount to get the bonus and such.

>so different now
I thought I heard it was closing?

>always used the good ol' +7 immune muffler - normal muffler switcheroo when selling
>based retards fall for it everytime

It also had NTR and mindbreak. It was way ahead of its time.

Nope, they do close meme servers from time to time like classic and whatever, but the original Chaos server is still up and running. Too many boomers that are afraid to let go of their favorite pastime still pump soo much money in the server.

>So you just pump your stats until it hits the require amount to get the bonus
Just like pre-renewal, then?
>tfw aiming for 130 str for that huge Extremity Fist number

jesus christ is this from the official anime?

the world of ragnarok is actually super fucked up if you read the lore

Almost 18.
Will update in August.

Attached: bapho_card.png (1098x735, 255K)

Not quite like pre renewal.

Items like mob scarf, which is a lower headgear piece mind you. There's WPE gears like this for ever piece of armor, so just imagine the bonuses and effects you can stack up if you distribute your stats in a way to get all the bonuses you can get with the gears equipped.

Attached: mobscarf.jpg (612x369, 87K)

you're doing god's work

or items like this, these just two I thought of on top of my head, but theres a whole bunch more shit like these now. Its pretty much worse then most P2W private servers out there.

Attached: pdm.jpg (1920x1080, 124K)

How do I get in contact with /rog/? Their general is dead and I don't know where they're playing or what the name of the guild is due to /vg/ archive search going only 3 months back.

They eventually sold Neuralizers to let you reset either stat or skill. Then rebirth came along and transcending let you reset.

Anyone to plays renewal should get shot

You only need a calc and a good knowledge about dungeon mobs and a planned progression. The first players made tons of characters just to map this out.

Yes. The most asinine thing about that whole thing is she joins the merchant guild anyway. Even ends up with a power ranger like merchant posse.

>Munak and Bogun's story had me in tears

Remind me again of the story behind the two of them? Also where does Hyegun fit in?

Shame they never let her advance to whitesmith.

I don't think she ever even advanced to blacksmith.

RO's soundtrack was a thing of beauty. Is soundTeMP even still alive?

I was about to post regarding the OST

>look up Ragnarok Online soundtrack
>5 CDs

Jesus Christ.

Attached: 6d669cd1b94441fba06f15dba95f4586.jpg (500x500, 79K)

Tl;dr Bogun likes Munak, Munak dies and became a monster. Bogun followed her to death. Hyegun is added later as Bogun's rival and a combo for their cards.

>nooo game lets me make mistakes THATS NOT THE CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE IM HERE FOR MOMMY HOLD MY HAND

SoundTeMP did make new music for a Nexon mobile game
but like everything else Nexon touches, it's shutting down in Korea after a year so they're out of work again

I know, it's great!

>pvp mattering at all in RO
lol

Not bad, but I don't think I'd listen to any of this standalone, different from RO which I have no problems listening to randomly.

You don't. Move on with your life.

t. carebear

talonRO

I don't mind PvP but RO just never seemed like a game that was designed around it. I remember there being a ton of classes that were useless for PvP or useless for PvE. The skills usually being busted didn't help my outlook either.
I play Eve online and love PvP in that game.

AHEM, YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE... FUCK QUESTS.

BACK THE FUCK OFF!?

current soundTeMP is mediocre, plenty of its old members are in SFA nowadays, and it shows.

>and gear
Gear isn't really necessary, even because there was always something new coming out, the important part was getting the skills and stats right to get the build you wanted. It was surely a minmaxing paradise but due to so many hunting grounds and different activities, almost every build had a niche.

>that specific star gladiator built only for farming satan morroc mobs

They were planning to have her become an Alchemist instead, she had a much bigger focus on potions throughout the series, and they even had her try to use a Bomb skill near the end. But they didn't have time to formalise her job change like with the other characters so they dropped the idea.

And it was worth it, that was part of the fun, some mobs had incredibly useful drops, so it was worth making a character to farm that one specific map. I remember before rebirth came out there were some builds made to farm specific maps in glast heim.

did you guys play rag mobile? it got me hooked for about a month and then I gave up because of the shitty controls
still recommend having a look at it tough

Attached: sinx.jpg (1280x720, 358K)

I'm waiting for them to port this to PC.

Star Glads are one of the weirdest most niche classes, and can only ever excel on a few maps at once without investing a not insignificant amount of time in utter boredom to reset their shit.
And yet making one specifically for one area is still worth it because holy fuck are they effective if you build them correctly. I remember pretty much all leeching services at Thor's Volcano were run by specialised Star Gladiators built pretty much specifically for that one fucking map.

Attached: Star_Gladiator.jpg (296x450, 27K)

Star Glads, Priests, and Hunters were always the best at a fresh server due to needing barely any gear and could do Thor's+Anubis leech.

Good times. Would never grind 4766567 Anubis again though

originsro

Wow they actually did it, they added transcendent classes. Taken them fucking years. I never thought they would actually do it since it would put them into more strict competition with TalonRO's audience, and would also alienate the players who were on Origins but who didn't want trans classes to be added.
But they actually did it.

What did they mean by this?

Attached: vmxEs3F.png (784x581, 771K)

And it was beautiful.

Attached: EA42mJJXYAEzxWF_(2).jpg (1172x659, 56K)

They were teasing the release of Episode 10.2 content, which includes Hugel, Abyss Lake, as well as SG / SL classes.

every game back then was poorly designed, I loved Maple Story but it was shit too

Hello, cringe department?
Yeah, again.
Thanks.

Which class is by far the easiest to play as?

BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR? BR?
HUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUEHUE

Back when I played it during the first two years it was actually mostly Thailanders infesting the game and their weird ass "5555555555" laughter.

Arguably Hunter. Ranged, not super gear reliant, access to all elements through different arrows. Easy to play, low risk, makes money easily so it's very self-sufficient.
If you're super 3head and can't handle pushing buttons there's a build based around literally just auto-attacking, and hitting the target so fast they get stunlocked and can't walk towards you.

>create female character
>now BRs give you stuff instead of asking you to give them moni everywhere
Delightfully devilish

Attached: 1486056529802.jpg (1700x1700, 189K)

All you had to do was post the prontera theme OP

Can you still have such high attack speed your bird basically just warps instead of doing it's diving animation?

If you're playing pre-renewal then yeah, definitely. Not sure about Renewal though.

I've never played RO, but based on what I've read, class progression usually goes
Novice > first class > second class > high novice > same first class > transcendent second class > third class
Does this mean expanded classes are worthless or something for endgame?

Attached: .png (1695x515, 29K)

they are niche classes that do very specific stuff

>not enjoying banding together with a ragtag group of unknown fellas to kill a bunch of mosters in order to level up

That kind of grind is actually FUN.

Wizard with max dex
press storm gust to win

RO actually had the smart idea of changing skill effects and scaling in PVP so they could balance both halves of the game separately instead of being like most MMOs that keep nerfing the PvE in order to satisfy the PvP.

a smart idea that was terribly implemented, the game had zero balance for pvp OR pve
which is why I loved it, what a fun mess

What bothered me more was that the game had no direction. I know it's supposed to be sandboxy, but you're presented with teleporter npcs that take you to 50 different places, you have 35 other npcs thrown at you at once that all do different things, and you know zero about game mechanics.

It's too fucking much and no amount is preparation gets you ready with all the conflicting or lack of information that isn't a clusterfuck

Attached: 1534981898213.png (310x304, 90K)

The problem is your a new player and don't know anything, so you can't possibly strategize. It's not that doing so is challenging it is that is impossible.

And experimenting is too risky given the insane amount of time it takes to build up a character, and you not knowing just how bad an optimized characters is. Plenty of games have stats that are complete shit and worthless or you need exactly X pts to hit some threshold and not a point more.
So you just end up with everyone following a guide and LESS diversity, not more.

SInX girls are so cute

Attached: 1580256426605.jpg (460x650, 52K)

bumo

Were you playing on a server that has the tutorial area disabled? Because the tutorial area explains almost everything to a new player, lets them skip a shitload of the Novice levelling, and gives them a lot of free stuff, as well as a free teleport to their First Class' town.
Unless you willingly skipped the novice training area, which the game heavily discourages you from doing, in which case no sympathy.

is the retail game any good?
I tried installing once but was stuck on some noob island where i had to grind out just to play the free mode and dropped it

Im a new player and its not hard to think about how you level stats, theres also enough variations in builds where you can salvage your character

zoomers prefer theme park mmos with zero player interaction and are too stupid to buy a regular fucking arpg instead of paying a monthly fee or paying for a game that will be removed from the internet forcing them to buy a new version

>monk makes build for agi xsassin
>turns out you're actually a strength and health assasin
>asura burns out and you woop his ass since he has no mana and can't hit your agi

>make a poison assasin just for fun
>50% chance of poisoning on every hit
>go around WOE just poisoning people
>it actually works and they're stuck draining hp while being unable to hit me

How fucked up is the lore since I didn’t pay much attention when I played? I know most guilds had corrupt sects in them, Thief’s guild noticeably subverting this as the guild’s purpose was actually give them a common goal and direct them to use those skills for raiding dungeons and stealing from monsters and the Assassins received instructions directly from the Assassin Goddess or some shit.

There is no active group playing anywhere.

Soul Linkers do OP buffs
Star Gladiators are OP for 3 maps and only 3 maps (you choose them)
Ninjas/Gunslingers are fun novel classes but outclassed, although certain builds are very effective. Desperado on Gunslinger is hilarious cause you can insta-switch to a Grenade Launcher for insane damage.

It's also worth noting that at least on retail and some privates Star Gladiators and Soul Linkers have their own Third Class-tier jobs now, Soul Reaper and Star Emperor.
Soul Reaper is just SL but newer, really. SLs are so good that them still being able to do SL skills kind of overshadows the unique stuff that becoming a Soul Reaper gives them.
Star Emperor is just Star Glad but with even more damage and all of the annoying limitations of being a Star Gladiator effectively removed allowing you to be OP pretty much everywhere all the time.

Emulator exists, you know.

>not having 999 yggberry in your storage

>How is this good game design?
It's not, but it's also an old as fuck game.
RO mobile lets you reset easily, and I assume old RO should too but I haven't played that in year and doubt anyone else has.

He wasn't complaining about not understanding game mechanics. He was saying the game has no direction for what you should do and when since you have so much content thrown at you at once including end game shit and you don't know what's what.

Anyone here from the clownphobia server?

nice bait.

Attached: loading06.jpg (640x480, 172K)

no, stay away from the Bigcat version / ELove...t's too gacha heavy, each gacha gives stats on get and on deposit.

It's fucking nuts how much of a stat gain it is.

>like math

lmao the only math you need to know is adding for the stats and multiplication for card effects. Literally how stupid are you man?

Been playing for a year.
On an emulator so I can bind hotkeys to skill, although auto battle takes care of most stuff. Bless that autobattle, too fucking old to grind by hand.
Game is pay to win as fuck, but to me RO was always about the PvE content.

My guess is that some sort of business deal doesn't allow them to.

Noice. I miss those days. I miss my character. I used to be so rich cause I had all the extremely rare cards.

That's the thing. Back when RO was new, nobody followed guides. This game was a product of its time and this is why it feels so clunky today where you have lots of modern conveniences.

Even a super novice can be useful at woe you pathetic lack of neurons faggot

No, the rates on official servers are way too low to make the game enjoyable. Play on a private server.

>being this pleb

>people tell me to go level on Firelocks in Amatsu dungeon

I might be out of touch since I haven't played this game for almost a decade now but seriously?

Whatever happened to the RO ARPG Tencent was teasing a while back? That looked pretty fun.

sage

Pre-trans Assassin probably was the worst. At least Sages could use Land Protector or Deluge and Endow useful elements. Assassins just couldn't do much of anything before SBK, EDP, and Soul Links became a thing, which was all post-trans.
Post-rebirth I'd say unranked TK, yeah.
