I liked the demo but I don’t like how Cloud’s attacks will just bounce off of those Shock Troopers even though the game shows him hitting them with his sword. Feels like a huge disconnect to me.

I'd unironically rather have turn based battles than button mashing nu-FF style combat. This kind of combat wasn't good in FFXV and it isn't good in FFVII remake, either.

Just because the turn order is obfuscated behind a meter that fills up, and you can lose your turn by not acting fast enough doesn't mean it's not turn based.

What definition? The characters take turns in attacking. No two characters can act at the same time. It's turn based.

It is menu combat, which is still just as bad.

Always gets a chuckle out of me.

The issue with the remake's combat is that it's just not fluid enough for what it's trying to do.

Both are awful. Both ATB and nuFF combat feel like shitty compromises between turn based and action based.
I dont know how they managed to make the new action heavy combat still feel clunky though. Amazing work there SE.
