HK Hynix will have modules out this year. By 2021 there will be more production and standardization. Worst case scenario is I wait till Q2 2022 to upgrade. I might spend a little more but i'm building to last 5-10 years so big deal.

so 2 years from now, and then you will have to upgrade basically the entire system to properly make use of the new tech, lets be honest, 5 years from now it will be the time to upgrade to DDR5

Any upgrade at this point requires a system overhaul. Ryzen is doing better now but do I want to get on AM4 when it's going to reach it's end in that year or two? I just feel like it doesn't offer me the same value.

1070ti overclocked still going strong, i can wait, most games run above 100fps even at 1440p (when disabling shit i dont even like, aka AA, DoF etc.)

I'm running a 1440p high refresh display I want to take advantage of. 3000 should be a much better value but corona has me spooked!

I build my PC last year, so I'm still fine. Amazon has a 2 year warranty on shit, right before the end of it my gpu might accidentally "break" and I will get a full refund which I can invest into the next gen :^)

Look at Mirror’s Edge and what that accomplished on the old gen just by having the right artistic design and careful work put into its various corridors. Depending on lighting software to do all the work for you is lazy. And RTX is just another meme being created to cover up that laziness and offload the costs to the consumer.

I got HD7950 few months before 8th gen consoles and it's enough to play the games at 1080p at console settings while aiming at ~60 fps in pretty much any game. Only in October I got a new build.

fine with my 1080, and if anything happens, still have a 1070 back up.

I suppose because there's little reason for me to do much anything right now. With a decent card your still getting frames within 10% at 1080 or 1440 in the majority of games. Sometimes with smoother performance on severely dated tech.

i have the same target, i think in your case a 2060 super would do or stock 2070 if you find one a good price, but then again RTX is a beta generation, i don't think its worth investing in it but look bro, GDC where Nvidia was supposed to present the 3000 series got cancelled because corona chan panic, at this point i have the feeling E3 will get cancelled as well, even more after sony confirming they wont assist for another year in a row, not like we need sony but you know where i'm getting

RTX cards costing a whooping 70% more than pascal cards on release with a 50% performance upgrade over pascal IS the meme, these cards are literally PROOF OF CONCEPT level of shit and nvidia is charging an arm and leg for them because AMD cant compete for shit

real time light tracing is basically running pixar level of shit at REAL TIME, it requires that extra processing power to properly calculate the direction the light is coming from and where/how it bounce depending on the material, if its reflective or not, it also helps simulate better shadows, its not about devs being lazy, it takes them a lot of time to manually create reflections and shadows, raytracing only helps them speed up development time so games doesn't take 4+ years to come out

im pretty sure you can fit any new GPU on that mobo, i recommend you get either a 1660 Super or Ti model, never go for the stock version, that's if you want 1080/1440p gaming at 60fps rigth NOW
