This only happened once in my entire life, but I was hunting Chameleos in FU with a hunting horn, and as I was playing a song (takes a long-ass time in FU) the fucker just stopped attacking, and kept staring at me. For seriously like 20 seconds. I've never seen a monster do this before or since.

Nah, now Brachy and Garuga LBGs are for rapid-fire Sticky 2.
However Rajang's is considered the best for Sticky 3 thanks to it's raw power.

FACT: Maintenance 3 gives you more total damage boost than agitator, peak performance and attack boost combined simply because of how much you can stay on enemy's ass even if he spergs around or how many knockdowns it creates through impact mantle.

I’ve also started really enjoying Glavenus. I think as a CB main, it just suits my style a lot since I have a lot of well-telegraphed moves to GP and whatnot, plus he’s a massive target for Savage Axe once he’s been tenderized.

They made Glavenus a worse monster overall, they made him hop around like a faggot way more similar to how the deviant Glavenus does.,

Hops and balerina sword dance what gets me. I also feel like regular glavenus has better weak spots.

I've grown to really enjoy fighting rajang. party because I went in solo on that double monkey quest a whole lot and partly because it's fun watching a gigamax'd manlet monster thrash monsters 4x his size while being terrifying to boot

Why is Charge Blade so popular?

It's one of the more mechanically complex weapons in a game with relatively easier weapons, plus, you're decently rewarded for playing it as it's powerful. It's not the most powerful weapon in the game, but it's up there. Bow is immensely popular because it's both mechanically complex AND the (2nd) most powerful in the game.

Royal, and Bazelgeuse are good general use Lances. Garuga isn't too bad either. If you want to dabble in element, Silverlos and Velkhana are good if you use them against the right monsters, and awakened Royal for water element is also good. Other elemental options for Lance are kind of weak, probably not worth making additional sets for.

The damage output is low, same reason why lance is unpopular.

It's also because people think of it as a support weapon.

There's nothing complex about HH. Moveset is hilariously simple and inputting songs has no depth.
It has a shit damage output and essentially it's just a shittier hammer aside from its buffing gimmick.

What do you mean super guard? You mean using Guard Up, or using the Power Guard move? Guard Up just makes unblockables blockable, it doesn't make you block other attacks any better. Power Guard makes you take MORE chip damage, not less. The point of it is to block from 360 degrees, not get knocked back, and reduce stamina consumption.

I'm actually a Hunting Horn main and yes, the reason a lot of people don't play HH is because it's complex, but that's because Hunting Horn is both complex and not very rewarding. Hunting Horn has more animation commitment than Charge Blade yet does significantly less damage. In the time you do an encore combo with HH (which requires the same amount of setup as charging phials for CB) you hypothetically do like 500 damage, while a Charge Blade SAED can do 1000+.
While the gap has closed significantly in Iceborne due to the Echo Wave Spin Attack for Horn being so retardedly powerful, it still lags behind a bit. In base game World HH was nearly unplayable with how far it lagged behind other weapons, it was basically a joke weapon, but now it's in a pretty good play and I love playing it.
Also, Hunting Horn isn't as complicated as people want to claim it is. I would say it's probably top 3 in the game, but it's Monster Hunter, not Street Fighter. There isn't any frame one inputs or anything.
Power Guard with Lance actually INCREASES the chip damage you take.

If you are actually playing bow efficiently, it's all about Stamina Management and keeping DPS up at all times. Bow has some of the most complex and varying builds in the game and is one of the most armor skill dependent weapons in the game. It can't just use the same bow in every single matchup. It also does in one hit to a bunch of things even with fully upgraded and augmented end game armor. It also requires Dash Juice or Vouchers to be able to stay Stamina Positive and keep DPS up the entire fight.
If you aren't a bow main and this ignorant, then I recommend not just blindly shitting on other weapons without having any knowledge about them.
If you are a bow main and this ignorant, then I'm surprised you keep your favorite weapon in such low regard you haven't done any research on how to play it well.

Is a pretty good series of videos but only goes over Base Game World Hunting Horn. The only difference between Base Game World and Iceborne is when you have a Monster Downed, instead of doing an Encore Combo to do the best damage, you just Mash the Spin Attack. Watch any other Speedrun by this guy:

And you'll get see what he's doing and emulate that. Generally you want to buff before engagements and not during them though. You want Horn Maestro 2 as well because it makes Attack Up Extra Large last like 4 minutes. Also, you really don't want to use any horn that doesn't have Attack Up Extra Large. No other Song List is worth taking over a Buff that increases your damage by 20%.
The best horns are generally Velkhanna, Guild Palace, Acidic Glavenus, Bazelguise. Shara/Rajang Horns for when you're fighting Kushala because they give "Negate Wind Pressure" which negates even Kushala's Wind similar to Kushala Set Bonus.

Depends on the weapon I'm using. Just a bog standard rathian if I'm using long sword or bug stick. Xeno is fun with the bug stick too just because its wings are weak points and you can helicopter around and actually do work. Tigrex if I'm using lance. I don't have any other particularities for other weapons though even though I use DB and SnS a lot.

It's honestly embarrassing how effective this actually is.

Don’t pressure yourself to do MR hunts alone, especially early on and especially if you have plenty of experience in the base game. For existing monsters, there are usually only minimal changes and the inflated HP can be a bit tedious when you start.

I’d say for new monsters/variants, do your first hunt by yourself but for existing monsters, set your Multiplayer Count to 2 and wreck shit.

Don't hesitate to hop into the training room and try out different weapon movesets, don't use defender gear, and don't neglect the side missions for base upgrades, otherwise have fun and just play the game

Yes, especially early on. You get a 50 minute limit for a reason.

Side Missions are given as Optional Quests in the Quest menu. You may see people with yellow Exclamation points over their heads in various areas; these will often give you Optionals as well.

Console or PC? There's a lot to learn, and you should just take it as it comes. Try and keep your gear good and make pieces with skills you want. Keep a full inventory of items for every hunt and don't worry about taking hits or carting as long as you learn from your mistakes.

My biggest tip for people is always that no weapon is necessarily better than another, they all have their strengths and weaknesses and priorities, so just find what works best for you

Demon mode then either dodge off a ledge or attack while you're sliding when you do demon flurry rush

Until you get good gear and fighting experience, expect fights to take 20-30 minutes if it's a brand new monster. Once you get best gear in the game and what not fights start taking 5-10 minutes. If you go full autistic fights can be as short as 2 minutes or less.

In fact in Guiding Lands, carting isn’t nearly as much of a concern so even that doesn’t really bother me.

I don’t believe so. I think it protects against a certain percentage of health loss rather than a fixed damage value so it scaled just fine.

I just got past Barioth and am still using mostly the rank 8 weapons, aside from a sword and shield.
When should I be upgrading my weapons? I don't really like any of the greatsword options so far.

Straight after Barioth is the point when you'll need to start dropping your high rank gear, at least that's how it was for me.
MR Great Jagras armor will carry you comfortably through the whole story, as long as you keep it upgraded.

I think doing high rank gets you the rainbow pigment, I think the affinity booster is a reward too but not sure.
The master rank optionals give you mantle and booster upgrades, so you'll need to get those done.

Haven’t got Iceborne yet, but I liked lavasioth, kirin, at kushala, Black Diablos, nergigante, pink rathian. Lunastra was okay, too. I liked that lunastra was actually difficult enough that I felt it was beneficial to make defensive set to fight her, basically no other monster in vanilla did this outside of some ATs.

For Long and Normal, absolutely. Wide, it depends. If you go full Safi gear and hard elemental or blast it's not strictly necessary. It's only an extra 10 dmg per shell which can be easily made up for once you have some Wide 6's that are worth a fuck and don't require release jewels or handicraft to work.

I like both flavors of diablos.
I also almost always have a HH with sonic waves prepped.

The name is usually a good indicator of how they're going to perform. If their name is just their real name like 'Jacob' or 'Seth' they're gauranteed going to cart.

Meanwhile if you get someone with a name like 'CaptainCumCrust' or 'Negrocuga' they're usually elder-gods who literally never get hit.
Anyone with a weeb sounding name just plain fucking sucks at the game.

Art 5 is a must regardless of what she’ll type you are using. If you want to long shell you will need Focus 3. Capacity Up is a second priority, but I wouldn’t recommend sacrificing other skills in your build for it. Then you can build guard or evasion skills. The rest can be anything you want on it.

The game isn't telling you your blast damage. It's a multiplier that affects how often your blast damage is applied. In MR, blast damage is almost always a flat 300 outside of specific circumstances (like Shara).

I had a nightmare last week where Rajang and Deviljho were chasing me around relentlessly in real life and they pretty much just destroyed the whole city and even the military.
I thought I was safe in a helicopter with the army but Deviljho jumped like 200 feet in the air and grabbed the whole thing in his mouth.

Rajang is fun, but it gets old fast. The extreme hit and run playstyle required is refreshing in small doses. The most generally fun fights for me are probably Ruiner Nerg, Brute Tigrex, or Velkhana. The selection of endgame monsters is way better than in the base game.

I want a story where everyone actually works together. Not where you do 100% of the work and they all suck your dick. Not where you do 100% of the work and they suck your handler's dick. Everyone does work, everyone gets their dick sucked. Pass that message on to the writing team for Monster Hunter World 2. If they can't juggle all these side characters and make them relevant to the gameplay at the same time, don't introduce them. Nobody in the history of mankind ever played a Monster Hunter game for the story. Every single person who played World complained about the unskippable cutscenes blocking you out of co op play, because the truth is people want to play with an actual team and not be the lone Sapphire Star doing all the work.

That’s the number of status damage you are inflicting for the actual blast damage to proc. And that number is bloated by the way. The rule of thumb is to always look at the numbers on your weapon with the last zero removed.

So you are actually doing 51 blast PROCs. And with status weapons you only have around 33% chance of landing said proc with each hit. That percent will never change unless you are wearing apothecary mantle. In MR blast damage will always deal 300 damage with the exception being larger monsters like Safi or Shara.

Fade Slash is great but against Rajang I personally prefer Iai counter since Fade Slash brings you back to the original position and that’s something you kinda want to avoid against Rajang since the fucker do a lot of frontal attacks.

it's stupidly strong if you can manage to spam saeds. monsters, that are really weak to elemental damage, like Namielle to fire for example, perish in mere minutes because each hit of saed deals ~100 damage to her. It's like around 1000+ per discharge. the only downside you have to change weapons to each monsters' weaknesses if you want to capitalize on it.

It has an upward swing which launches other players, yeah. Normally its a part of the triangle (on PS4 controls anyway) combo, but you can also do it from neutral/moving with triangle+circle.
I have no idea if the in-combo version launches people but I would assume so.

Shit's finnicky because the idea "You can't flinch shot while they're enraged" works fine, its that the game doesn't do a consistent job in telling you when they are or aren't enraged.
Like the other user said about zone transitions, the heartbeat monitor will turn blue so you might think "Oh, I can stop them from moving" but no, they're still enraged, its just the game isn't showing it. Much in the same vein, they can enrage while you're clutched onto them so you'll reposition them to face the wall, hit the Flinch and they don't get wallbanged, roaring a moment later. Basically the mechanic itself works fine, the information surrounding the mechanic's limitations is what screws with you.

is there prerequisite for getting Hero King Coin? I'm trying to help my friend get decent guild palace weapon. He did base SA, now we need to get him at least 1 coin to upgrade. Tried to do Arena quest 7 with tigrexes, I got 3 coins afterward but he got none. He still didn't encounter Brute Tigrex and Zinogre, so arena quests 6 & 7 locked for him, but he can join mine quest. Is it just a bad luck he didn't get any coins or he must unlock these quests first himself?

It's not bad at all. You have enough room to fit in the usual suspects (Crit Eye 7, Weakness Exploit 3, Crit Boost 3) with a little wiggle room, and its set bonus essentially just gives you max earplugs, wind res, tremor res, and flinch free.
The real sin is that the set bonus relies on you covering your beautiful armor up in blankets.

I'd even go so far as to say you should avoid multiplayer as much as possible since it's a complete crapshoot whether you get a HR 999 jap or a BR with 140 ping, and if you just get carried by your teammates you won't learn the skills to properly murder lizards when you do play solo.

Some of the rarity 10 weapons are good stop-gap weapons while you work on making the better weapons.
