Mudkip and Bulbasaur
Maybe Bulbasaur + Cubone because I got Bulba way back when, but I'm gonna try the quiz first and go with that if I don't hate the results
Absolutely based taste
I want to be a Cubone, but I don't know what I want my partner to be, can anyone help me decide?
same as back in 2006, Machop + Mudkip
>fighting type in a game with mostly flying type bosses
I know I'm lowkey making the game harder for myself, the game's easy enough as it is
Cubone and Cyndaquil
Cubone Starter, Totodile Partner
Team Fang
Water Partners can walk on water which is very common
What starter is for the sperg kid with shitty grades that turned his life around as an adult?
Psyduck
I already played the demo though. I ended up with Charmander, and picked Chikorita because it's my gfs favorite
Totodile
Theyre remaking the first game? Thats neat I recall playing it years and years ago. Never played any of the games after the first though. Any of them worth playin?
Explorers Of Sky is the definitive mystery dungeon experience. You can ignore the rest.
Pikachu + Chikorita or Pikachu + Bulbasaur
Explorers of Sky has a worse story AND partner than Rescue team and made me drop the series.
End this dumb meme.
game play will always be more important than story, and Explorers expands upon everything rescue team did.
I originally beat it as Cyndaquil with Pikachu as my partner. But I might go as Mudkip this time around and maybe have Bulbasaur as my partner
Depends on the game. PMD is carried by its writing and music. There are much better roguelikes, gameplay wise.
That said EoS is better than Rescue Team on all fronts.
If you get two Mukip and Bulbasaur
If you only get one, Totodile.
user, something can play awfully and still be better than 'modified' versions for reasons not related to gameplay.
Like charm. I believe that you all call it 'soul'.
All games need to do is play well enough.
Where the FUCK is Ampharos
>something can play awfully and still be better than 'modified' versions for reasons not related to gameplay.
no it can't. If it plays awfully it's a shit game. Neither Rescue Team nor Explorers are shitty games, but Explorers is better than Rescue Team.
Explorers of Sky probably offers the best all around experience. Super Mystery Dungeon is a little divisive due to a lot of changes in it. Some people love it while some hate it. It's usually agreed it has the best gameplay but a weak story due to pacing issues + stealing earlier plotlines. Gates to Infinity (came out between those two) is pretty weak and should be skipped.
By that logic Super is the best since it has the most engaging gameplay.
Maybe you should read the last line of my post.
And the Explorers series is absolutely worse than rescue team in terms of writing and story.
You get lightingrod as an ability that draws electric attacks to you, so a water partner is cool
Am I going to need Nintendo Online Service to play everything the game has to offer?
I remenber something as an online option in the demo.
maybe you should read the the only line in mine. Gameplay will always be more important than story. I don't care what story you think is better, I'm talking about what game is better to play.
I think I read something about rescues needing online this time around which blows, but you don't really need to get rescued or rescue other people to enjoy the game fully. Basically, if you faint in a dungeon, you can ask other people for a rescue, but you can also just take the loss instead of waiting for rescue.
And it's Rescue Team.
We're not in the Tetris-era, user. People play games for story. People 'play' VNs despite little to no gameplay.
Stop being a boomer.
Explorers is objectively the better game because it has more content, Pokemon, mechanics, and quality of life improvements than Rescue Team.
>People play games for story. People 'play' VNs despite little to no gameplay.
Only retards and people who want to read books with pictures
This whole argument is irrelevant. If you paid attention to the guy I was responding to said he already played Rescue Team and wanted to know about the other ones.
>more content, Pokemon, mechanics, and quality of life improvements than Rescue Team.
With a worse story and no charm.
There are people who still played HGSS/Platinum after BW 'improved' everything, because BW is a slog to play through. There are people that still played BW2 after XY came out because XY sucks to play through.
>no charm
Just say “no soul” so I can easily discard your post.
Charmander with Treecko female partner to fully self insert
there's a shitton of flying bosses in the OG game so it's gonna be a pain in the ass
>MUH STORY MUH STORY MUH STORY
For the last fucking time. I don't give a shit what story you think is better. I think Rescue Team has a better story too, but Explorers is the better GAME for all the reasons I already mentioned.
Eevee with Skitty as the partner, team cute is back on the menu, boys.
Can you pick your partner's gender? Just wondering haha
Why? They're half flying, but most of them don't have any flying type moves to hit the treecko with. Just put rock slide/rock tomb on it from a tm and you're good.
Yes, play the demo
You can, yeah.
Eevee+Pikachu
It oddly seems like that is the most popular choice
I wish I could choose eevee+skitty instead but can't
It is literally impossible to do that combination, user. I know because I want it.
Probably somewhere in Amp Plains.
Psyduck/torchic
Played the demo last night and im fuckin ready
I don't understand why they don't just remove the same type restriction and simply give the player a warning about it being harder since you share all weaknesses.
digimon mystery dungeon when
I agree. They should let us choose whatever.
It isn't like mystery dungeon was even hard in the first place, the hardest thing was just managing pp and hunger in 99 floor dungeons
mudkip + cubone
Reminder to not rely on OP smokescreen - it is not nearly as good as it was
I could see a kid getting stuck by choosing a same type combo, but it's not like you couldn't fuck yourself before. Cubone + any grass starter was pure suffering during the Articuno fight in the original.
True. I forget that kids are suppose to be the main audience instead of 20+ adults who played the originals
*suppose to* but doesn't equal that.
I'm almost positive that the majority of people playing pokemon are adults. Is pokemon even popular with kids today?
Yes, kids still like pokemon, but a lot of them just buy the cards.
They are adults because they were kids when they first played these games. But it doesn't mean that the game should pander only to adults, a ton of kids still love Pokemon today.
Are you sure about that now that they all have updated movesets? In gen 3 sure but they have movesets based off of gen 7 now
I'm not sure since the game's not out, but you're not gonna struggle massively just because you have a treecko partner. Bring some reviver seeds to boss battles and you're good.
it'll be fine as well because of the inclusion of wands
>no new content
>friends areas cutted cause lazyness
>no new pokemon cuz reasons
>shitton of assets copypasted
I really want to support this game but the 60$ tag is too much for me
Wait for the price to drop? That's what I would do.
Friend areas are in, they're just menus now. And that's mostly because they didn't need to be hubs in the first fucking place.
>price drop
>nintendo game
What are you on about, user?
>just wait a pricedrop lmao
3 years and BoTW is still 60$
Treecko/Cyndaquil. Though if they let Meowth evolve into Alolan Persian I may be tempted.
Walmart has been selling new games for 50 bucks recently. That's only a 10 dollar increase over the price of the original game.
>friends areas cutted cause lazyness
I agree
>no new pokemon cuz reasons
I disagree, they included the evolutions of pokemon that previously did not have them in the original game regardless of generation, like eevee into sylveon for instance
And they will also be having mega evolutions
>tfw a game from the GBA has Mega Evolutions before gen 8 does
mega absol a cutie
It's had times when it was $40.
I always use the same starter and partner I was assigned from the very first game.
Mudkip and Chikorita.
1/10 try harder
Sales are a thing. More importantly Mystery Dungeon will not be held to the same pricing rules as BotW.
>there are people in this thread who have played the original game and still don't know to pick skitty as a starter
>minmaxing a single player childrens game
how pathetic must your life be to do something like that?
Not necessary.
Its been awile since I played the oringial but if memory serves if you figure out that link moves exist the game is a breeze. Who needs to cheese it even further.
Why? To speedrun the game? I'd just recruit a skitty if I wanted their ability rather than sacrificing my roleplaying.
I just honestly answer the quiz and take what I get.
Apparently I'm mudkip.
Exactly. Especially in my case as Eevee since they have adaptability in this game (makes normal type moves much stronger) it's gonna make linked moves fuckin' nice.
I don't think i'm even going to evolve Eevee just for that.
pikachu & machop is the ultimate combo
try to prove me wrong pro tip you cant
All the fun in this game is in the collection aspect. It's the one thing that distinguishes it from a mediocre Mystery Dungeon entry. What starter you pick lets you get to that loop faster and otherwise makes no difference to anything.
I don't care about going fast and getting everything instantly.
thats fun and all but you arent playing cubone as your startermon so your post is wrong
I play it for roleplaying and escapism fuel for my autism - I do like skitty but I don't want to roleplay as one - it being my partner is okay. I don't play these games as a collectathon I play them because i'm incredibly sad and wish I was in a different place
Skitty starter, they are going to fall for the meme of making it a 1 to 1 remake but with mega evolution rather than Super's "use items or get wiped by a screenwide attack 40 tiles away, by the way, first non tutorial dungeon."
Attract will be stupidly broken again. Partner Squirtle of course since Squirtle tears shit apart
They are actually balancing a lot of stuff. Smokescreen isn't OP anymore, agility isn't as busted. Attract is still probably okay, though. So keep an open mind that some tactics probably need to be changed
they're adding stuff like a bunch of new moves, wands, items, reworking abilities
not exactly a 1 to 1 remake but close enough
