>Avalance's bomb was a dud. Active self destruct to blow up my reactor
What did he mean by this?
Avalance's bomb was a dud. Active self destruct to blow up my reactor
Avalanche shot first
Reactor 08 was an inside job
Avalanche were crisis actors
He used their documented attack on security footage as a scapegoat to distract the citizens of Midgar from their real problems
Are you fucking kidding me? They are trying to make AVALANCHE somehow not terrorist bombers now? Did they know their bomb was a dud? Because if they didn't it's still attempted terrorism
In the original something being off was alluded to when Jessie mentions that the explosion was much bigger than she was expecting. Having you play as unironic terrorists would be problematic in this day and age though , so they change it so that they only intended to blow up the main pump machinery (which it did flawlessly), but Shinra decides to blow up the whole plant to pin the resulting death and destruction on Avalanche and turn their act of sabotage that was only meant to harm Shinra Corp into a massive terrorist attack against the people of Midgar.
I wonder when Barret's going to learn that he's off the hook and he gets to ignore that crucial bit of character growth where he admits he was wrong to blow up the reactor and kill innocent people
Zoomers are too stupid for ambiguity
That's beyond stupid tho. They already have an iron grip on midgar there's no point to such a thing.
That something was tied in to the revelation that Avalanche are just a bunch of self righteous clowns who don't actually know what they're doing. It's not even the first or last time Jessie screws up. Is it her or one of the guys who just outright says they deserve their deaths at the pillar for blowing up so many innocent people?
Based on what we've seen, they purposefully do this for 2 reasons:
1. They're planning to ditch Midgar for Neo Midgar anyway and need an excuse to eventually build a new city on top of the promised land
2. They're trying to frame Avalanche as Wutai agents to give them an excuse to finish stamping out the last bit of Wutai's autonomy
3. Avalanche is actually a front for Rufus, President Shinra is trying to make them useless to him as a PR front.
It's her that says she deserves to die for killing so many innocent people.
This is all a lot of changes to the original game, but it's not new to the remake - it was alluded to in Crisis Core and the other expanded materials (which nobody played/listened to/read because they were shit)
>says 2
>lists 3
sue me I got distracted and forgot to edit my post also I just finished cooming to internet porn
If Avalanche aren't seen as terrorists, then they can't blame the destruction of Sector 7 on them. It's stupid because the situation only exists so the main three characters can all have a clear conscience when they find out mean old Shinra is responsible for all evil in the world afterall
Also because the japs are probably worried about backlash and censorship given the whole post 9-11 world now. FF7 came out before most burgers really understood what terrorism was and some of them still thought Al Quaida were their friends from Rambo 3
Based Osama
>Having you play as unironic terrorists would be problematic in this day and age though
I can only imagine what else they'll change further down the road to desperately avoid offending the sensibilities of normalfags and blue checkmarks.
it was a different time
Doubtful of any of that. Its simply to make Avalanche seem less like terrorists and completely good. Barret even says something that suggests this was his first bombing run, which, if I recall, is not the case in the original game.
>Its simply to make Avalanche seem less like terrorists and completely good
..because there would be backlash and censorship if they weren't
forced meme cock sucker
Backlash, maybe. Censorship? From who exactly?
poor wittle zoom zoom
the american government
pressure by consumer groups
Remember we have politicians beating the "videogames create murderers" drum again in the background, even if nobody is listening this time
Mako can't melt steel beams
keep sucking those dicks like the tool you are
What can the US government really do about it though?
bitch about it on tv and get the boomers up in arms. Japan has been afraid of America's moral police since the 90's man
cry about it faggot
its been proven the zoomer generation is dumber than the boomer generation
your kids will be even stupider than you are
and all you proved is that you suck dicks, you just swallowed your future kids
The irony of course is that we're discussing the retooling of a game that came out in the late 90s. Anyway, bitching about it would just be them trying to get SE to censor themselves, which isn't really doing anything about it on their part.
It only looks bad in retrospect if you don't know or care that a great many of the Mujahideen were just locals fighting off foreign invasion and had nothing to do with the rise of the Taliban or Al Qaeda
>it was alluded to in Crisis Core
When?
Also this new thing contradicts Before Crisis, where Shinra considered protecting a reactor from a bombing to be an utmost priority. It's a stupid change in-universe. Out-of-universe it's a stupid change, because it robs the player of a success, a mission complete to start the game with a "Wohoo! I blew that sucker up! I'll keep playing some more." It is extremely dicey business to make the player fail at the start. It's a faux pas.
That is a really really dumb change to the story.
>AVALANCHE ARE GOOD BOIS THEY DINDU NUFFIN
The protagonists don't need to be total fucking goody-two-shoes, even if they're ultimately the good guys you're still allowed to have at least a light shade of grey. They're eco-terrorists fighting against a giant all-powerful corporation that is quite literally killing the planet.
>It is extremely dicey business to make the player fail at the start. It's a faux pas.
This guy gets it. Also, with this game it means that instead of actually managing to strike against the evil megacorp Shinra of your own volition you are instead being played as a pawn in their master plan because you're that much of a failure.
The implication was that they're clumsy as shit and don't know what the fuck they're doing. They proceed to fuck up the train ID scan shortly after.
That's all true anyway though. Even if the opening bombing was a genuine failing on Shinra's part, they turn it to their own ends and effortlessly ruin everything for you from then on.
Jessie dindu nuffin
Yeah man, we never have video games where the protagonist does bad things anymore.
Yeah, eventually. That's the difference. Beating the player over the head continuously with small failures and no real wins tends to go over bad in terms of engagement regardless of the kind of story you tell.
It's also the fucking trademark of Toriyama, who's co-directing the game. Imagine that!
