Midgar is by far the most iconic part of the game, I doubt the following episodes will sustain the sales of the first one, most people will probably fall for the hype and then lose interest in the following ones or just wait to get them together for a lower price.
That aside, I’m not even sure how appealing the other episodes are going to be in the first place. Imagine you’re new to the game, and Midgar is followed up on with 60 hours of Nibelheim, the chocobo farm, golden saucer, Barret’s slums and the Spanish vacation resort.

I like it. It's a good innovation. You obviously can't spam attack on bosses as easily. You really have to guard and evade or else goodbye health bar.

The game is even giving a whole lot of control to you by what you want to do and your teammates. I thought they'd just be autobots all the time. But nope. You actually have to give commands to them when needed. And it is needed.

The "Pressured" and "Stagger" are good additional mechanics. Makes you actually think to properly time your attacks with your teammates. You don't use it well, you'll just make the battle last longer.

I'm sold on it.

Now for my opinion on people not liking the new gameplay. I do not understand why people are so vehemently opposed to the new gameplay when it's actually a good innovation and it's so obvious they really thought about it by combining the old and new. You can play it pseudo-old style, or you can combine both, or you can go full action. That's three ways they made the battle system work.

I couldn't agree more, this is the perfect mix of two of my favorite battle systems in rpgs, Vagrant Story's and Lightning Returns.
I like turn based combat quite a bit, but this is a really great evolution for the system and feels like a sweet spot between Kingdom Hearts and ATB, I'm in love.
