don't they understand that having these huge abilities just removes the meaningfulness of the granularity of every small action an FPS player will take and utilize better than their opponent, that adds up over time to become a competitive advantage and determine the winner?

Weird, I thought they were going for the CS:GO clone, not the Overwatch clone. There's already a few decently popular overwatches, but CSGOs only clones are trashy russion f2p shit

CS:GO doesn't have abilities
The appeal of League of Legends is abilities, so why wouldn't they include it?
They want an overlap with League (obvious from the crappy art style and abilities)

If I remember right, it'll be a bit of both.

Real info from someone whose played the alpha:
You have one signature ability you're given for free, it's either on a 30+ second cool down or requires kills to recharge, and will reset every round
Your ultimate ability requires either 7 rounds, 7 kills, or a combination to be used.
The other two abilities you have to buy charges for, and only a limited amount can be held at one time, on sage she can have one ice wall charge and two ice patch charges
The time to actually use an ability is pretty massive, ~2 seconds, and during that time you can very quickly die to someone just fuckin blasting you. The deagle, awp, scout and semi auto rifle all one shot headshot through armor
The awp will one shot through armor anywhere that isn't a limb
The ak and m4 will kill you in 3-4 body hits

Most of the characters don't have abilities that do a ton of damage, they a lot more meant for zone control, i.e. launching smokes, putting up an acid wall, etc

Sure, at least they aren't overwatch aimbot mode, I think only 3 of them actually do damage and they all show you where they're being placed
Off the top of my head from the op image they are as follows
Drops a big fuck off laser on an area, it takes like 5 seconds to cast
Gets floating force throwing daggers that actually fuck you up
Lets you create a controlled clone for a few seconds so you can maybe get an entry frag or scout info

Really shit hanzo arrow you can cast 3 times, has a long charge up, doesn't do much damage, and shows the travel path before usage

OP tier: poison cloud in the area that lasts as long as you're standing in it, reduces enemy hp while they're in the cloud, they regain it while leaving, blocks vision inside the cloud, and highlights enemies inside it for the person who used it

CS:GO and Overwatch seem to be the two main inspirations for this, with the former being the bigger influence. I'd be willing to try it out because you die faster and skill seems to matter without everything feeling floaty as fuck (Overwatch) or guns being optimized for literal mouth breathing retards (CS:GO).

Still, I want fucking Enemy Territory back on Steam, then I won't have to give a flying fuck about any other game out there, new or old. Dirty Bomb just doesn't cut it.

Yeah I enjoyed it, I kept getting retard league mouth breathers on my team though, legit acted like they'd never played an FPS before
The maps are kinda weird though, they've got a bomb plant+ defuse game mode, and one of the maps has 3 bomb sites which is pretty obnoxious, and one of the 2 site maps has one way teleports all over it for fast rotations

It's the typical fuckery with property rights and shit like that. Splash Damage doesn't care because they have their zoomer shit with Dirty Bomb. Even though that game sucks it's still better than most AAA shooters these days, which is sad.

They're going for a combination of the two in the absolute worst possible way.

Honestly, the movement and gunplay look pretty good. The abilities look scuffed as fuck (at least the "smoke" in the gameplay preview) but none of them seem too strong.

I assume every spell cast (or at least ultimates) will cost significant economy or else Sage resurrecting every round will be dumb as hell.

Honestly, the abilities look fine. What sucks with Overwatch on the basic level is that playing solo is as soul-sucking and joyless as playing MOBA's solo. All it takes is 1 guy on your team to ruin your game.

With CS:GO, in theory, you could 1 vs 5 the enemy team with little more than some decent aim and positioning. In Overwatch, there's so much bullshit flying around that doing that doesn't really feel like an option. Your team sucking in CS:GO doesn't actively remove your fun too much.

In short, if the game is fun to play solo and doesn't feel like a complete waste of time like LoL does then I'd try it at least. The new Diabotical is exactly what I want in a new FPS, something that's good solo. I got a beta key and played nothing but arena 1 vs 1 for 2 hours, it was good. The other modes look fine for a solo too.
