I've watched most of Scott's videos because I have a lot of free time at work and need shit to do. I also don't know what sort of games he actually fucking finishes or gets far in. Nearly everything he says about a game is "It looks cool, but not my thing" or "I played it for a few hours, it was neat. I gotta get back to it sometime." I mean he released an hour long video today talking about dozens of games on the Switch and 95% of them he said one of those two things

I just think he plays all the big name Nintendo releases and that is kind of it. At least, if he has some sort of love for other games it never comes across in his videos.

I mostly am subscribed to random people who play particular games rather than people like Scott who are general gaming YouTubers. Some of my favorites are: Trump (Hearthstone), CarlSagan42 (Mario Maker), Spirit of the Law (Age of Empires), Shofu (when I occasionally am in the mood for Pokemon, but dude barely ever uploads ever), TeamSpooky (Technically it is just stream VODS, but whatever. Fightan Game tournamnets), Mathilification (Path of Exile), and I like Seth.

I actually am not subscribed to that many particular gaming channels. I am actually subscribed to more film/history channels, with other random stuff like MTG throw into the mix.

I'm actually genuinely, seriously looking for more youtube channels to get into. I work from home now and I am able to work while watching/listening to stuff. So if any of you have good recommendations for channels (even if they are bigger ones) please let me know. It'd also help if you tossed in a favorite video of theirs with it and I'll watch it since I got so much free time.

The only YouTuber I currently watch is HappyConsoleGamer. That man is a treasure, his passion and knowledge are completely genuine and there's nobody on YouTube as earnest as him.

On impulse, I decided to binge Freeman's Mind when I saw Accursed Farms had the full series on the channel. After finishing, I looked up other old Machinina shows that may have survived the channel purge from years ago and found Arby and the Chief on the creators channel.

Felt nostalgic and gave it a shot. Never having seen past season 3, I was hesitant because I thought it would have aged like milk only to be completely fucking blindsided by some seriously great writing, primarily in the later seasons when shit got real dark.

Big recommend, season 7 destroyed me and that feels so weird to say given how the show began.

That was easily his worst video by far, I particularly hated the ugly fake-anime style animation at the end of the video, especially when earlier in that same video he talked about how much he values good animation.

For Minecraft I watch several of the Hermitcraft crew who I got into thanks to Marriland back in the day when he actually made shit worth watching; Xisuma, Keralis, False, Etho, Beef, Bdubs, Stressmonster, Doc, Scar, Iskall, TFC and Cleo from time to time, and Hypno (who the main reason I got into Isaac too - I didn't think I'd like playing it but it was fun to watch and then he completed it and I realized I wanted to see it so much I needed to at least try playing it myself and it turned out I was wrong and I loved it and it shortly became my third most played game of all time).

Beyond that there's just a few randoms from time to time. RamZaes (I haven't even played most of the stuff he talks about but someone here posted him once and I just liked the way he presented shit), DreamcastGuy and RGT 85 are okay from time to time (I always get the feeling they're WAY more casual than they pretend to be so I can't stomach them much as serious gaming related YouTubers), Arlo, Spawn Wave, Retro Game Mechanics explained, Pikasprey Yellow, Nitro Rad, SyckohPlays (and also his other channel that's dead), and SwankyBox.

I'm still also subbed to Hardyt3kyoyo and Marriland ostensibly for Pokémon but with Pokémon being shit now and them both buying and playing the last two set of games I've rather lost all respect for them. People with an audience are the most important ones needed to tell Game Freak to go fuck themselves and they didn't do that so fuck them too.

Scott probably playing it safe aside, I think I can relate. I don't really have any specific genres of games that I enjoy since I play anything that catches my attention. If someone asked me to name my favorite types of games, I'd probably just draw a blank trying to decide if I like X more than Y. All I know is that I hate most sports games, and I get bored of most multiplayer games that are match-based because it feels like you're just supposed to play with a carrot dangling in front of your face (unlocks, etc.) until you get bored and move on. Yea Forums will whine about his politcal stances but he's based and makes great reviews. His old-school aesthetic is great as well, and I love how he won't cut out messed up takes or anything. It makes him feel more genuine.

One thing I hate about Scott, probably more so for his recent videos, is that he spends more time reading off information about a thing and doing silly skits around it rather than play the damn thing. It makes him feel very "fake" as a gaming youtuber, even if it's clear he does have a passion for games. His videos covering stuff like special edition consoles and Club Nintendo were genuinely pretty good, but videos where actually has to play games are things sort of nose dive.

I prefer entertaining/educational channels that have interesting opinions and don't just read Wikipedia. It's okay if they're funny but it's hard to find one that doesn't do the same tired JonTron shtick (see: Antdude, Caddicarus, Scott the Woz).

That's why the best gaming channel is NitroRad. He covers interesting games, his opinions are nuanced, he plays games to 100% completion, has a background in film studies and his humour is usually very subtle.
