Why is Halo not as popular as it used to be?

Why is Halo not as popular as it used to be?

When the original Halo was released it was unlike anything else that had been done in a shooter before. The wide open, non-linear environments. The music. The story. Halo: Custom Edition's community.

Attached: xbox-360-halo-3.jpg (640x640, 124K)

lmao wide open ever halo lmao

Halo 4

Halo turned to shit
Mass appeal changed
PC shooters got more popular

I still have that old Xbox somewhere, unfortunately I think the disc drive gave out like most other 360’s I owned.
Fuck it was a fun console but the OG interior design was such absolute dogshit.

Yes halo 3 aged well, unlike contrarian Yea Forums tards

I want that Xbox so bad

Don't post about Halo on Yea Forums
It is a cesspit of shitposters who loathe all things Xbox.
You can not reason with them, you can not hold a discussion with them.
They will actively ignore logic and reason and will attack you at the slightest hint of being perceived as confrontational.
Don Mattrick fucked over Xbox and Yea Forums has been shitposting ever since.

Halo was babby's first online team multiplayer for the masses.

343i fucked absolutely everything up that they possibly could.

Forerunners? Not mysterious anymore
Flood? Now mutant dog food
Humans? We use to be super advanced and were at war with the forerunners till they de-evolved us or some dumbshit
Covenant? Now retarded
Master Chief? Lmao enjoy Locke
Cortana? Now a bridge

Loadouts killed it for good.

343 didn't know what they were doing with the franchise. I didn't help that it really had nowhere else to go. They probably should have done a Halo chronicles collection where they went to different parts of the war prior to the conclusion in Halo 3. Instead they wanted to do real sequels and it was a mistake.

They are all the old models that RROD like crazy, even if it still works it's just because it was never used, it'll die on you in a year.

Halo was original at the time, but now it's an idea that has been conceptually iterated upon several times. It's a franchise from which devs now derive ideas, but it's no longer popular because new generations of gamers are playing those derivations, and quite frankly, Halo hasn't done anything to warrant a huge resurgence, and that won't change until Halo Infinite comes out.

If Infinite doesn't pull numbers, then it's probably a dead franchise as far as business goes. It's okay for some things to just become retro and nostalgic. I'd rather not see it milked.

>The wide open, non-linear environments.
always funny to hear Halobabs play this up while forgetting over 60% of the game was the same looking corridors

Attached: 137645-halo-combat-evolved-6111.jpg (682x458, 75K)

Halo was always garbage

343 took over and ruined the franchise right as all console gamers jumped ship over to PS4 anyways, or grew up and got lives. Microsoft has been floundering since.

>The wide open, non-linear environments.
you fucking what?

anyway, halo was popular because it was ahead of the curve when it came to console network integration, once the competition caught up there was nothing special about the game. I guess the music is pretty good for FPS standards but that's not saying much

>The wide open, non-linear environments
N64 shooters had less linear environments than halo, not to mention the goldmine of PC FPS titles

Attached: lol.jpg (500x400, 28K)

It was never good, and console kiddies whose first system was an Xbox are finally starting to realize it.

Attached: 1579679941950.webm (800x450, 677K)

people interested in fps games either moved over to pc to play the core competitive fps games (csgo, tf2, siege, overwatch)
or they grew out of fps games all together.

a lot of normies I know who grew up playing halo never bothered to learn another fps again. Most of them play single player games like dark souls, fallout and uncharted now, and if they do pick up an fps it's a cancer skinner box lootshoot like destiny or the division.

halo is a unique case of its core fanbase evaporating with time.

Xbox isnt the leading console and there are just so many shooters out now. When Halo 3 was at its peak, there were like 2 other shooters around, Gears and CoD. Now a new shooter comes out every week, so the shooter community is scattered. Hell, despite Halo not being as popular as it was during the 360 days, Halo 5 is still one of the most played games on xbox, so its fine.

What's this webm supposed to prove? Shit like this happens in all console shooters.

The devs work on a grindy f2p game now. The people who took over the franchise never understood its appeal and ran it into the ground. Any modern day fans of Halo are not the same people who played before, it's like the people who play retail WoW.

Competition, doesn't matter if Halo goes back to its roots, it's no longer new. Halo can only make fans happy and bring in new fans, it will never be as popular as it used to be because normies moved on. One of their biggest mistakes was making Reach instead of doing what they are doing now and just gave us Halo Wars and that's it until 2012 where they gave us Halo 4 and no remakes.

This, same with Metroid.

halo 1 = innovative
halo 2 = awesome
halo 3 = still cool
halo reach = lol wut

>If Infinite doesn't pull numbers
You guys really got to stop saying this, Chief games always pull numbers regardless.

This, Halo is only dead on PC but it never had a PC audience, to begin with and don't say Halo CE on PC because Bungie stated that failed.

>Halo 2 PC
>Vista exclusive
>Games for Windows Live
>In 2007
>3 years after it's Xbox release
>The same year as fucking Crysis

You have no way of stating whether an audience exists or not when your product is just a middle finger to said audience.

>Games for Windows Live
this was a good feature if you got it working desu

you could send hate mail in games like darksouls it was good compared to not having it

Attached: 1583137621265.jpg (800x876, 79K)

It was literally paying Microsoft to use your own internet connection.

Stop making up excuses, PCturds don't give a shit about Halo, never did.

Yes, which is why they made their own Halo games when Microsoft wouldn't give them any.

Retard.

1) Halo Reach/4. Sprint and all of the other bullshit ruined the core gameplay loop.
2) Xbone was trash
3) Master Chief Collection didn't work for like 5 years
4) Halo 4 and 5 have absolute garbage campaigns and honestly, Reach wasn't that great either.
I do plan on buying the Master Chief Collection on Steam which Halo CE gets released though.

>I do plan on buying the Master Chief Collection on Steam which Halo CE gets released though.

Attached: finally CE is complete.webm (1280x720, 2.85M)

lol of course 343 had to find some way of fucking it up

>doesn't matter if Halo goes back to its roots
yes, actually it does
no wants sprint, thruster packs, clamber and all of the other garbage they added

Because it peaked at Halo 3, everything after was just reaching for embers of a series long past its prime

343 happened. Not even them reselling back the games on the MCC could save the series and now it’s gone to shit

That has been a thing since the 360 release

Reselling games on MCC could have saved it if they didn't release fucking Reach first and then fuck THAT up too

Halo turner into a CoD clone with Reach and 4.

That no one played, dumbass.

No, it doesn't shit will never be Halo trilogy popular again, stop living in the past.

metroid has been shit going on more than a decade now, and it makes me so fucking depressed. prime 2 was the last good game, fuck

oh ok zoomer, go back to flossin in fortnite then

Fuck you, Metroid games are great.

>2/3baby calling anyone a zoomer

ok retard

343 still doesn't know how to make hslo games. They can't even remaster old games correctly without fucking it up. 343 didn't even realize Master Chief is the main character and being loved by many when they were making their "OC do not steal" version of chief.

>their "OC do not steal" version of chief.
you mean the black guy?

It has been a decade since we had a good halo game

For whatever reason positive/nostalgic Halo and Call of Duty discussion on Yea Forums is the one thing I can't wrap my mind around. I understand the demographic shift intellectually but actually seeing it is surreal.

reach was trash
it's been 13 years since we got a good halo game

Thanks for posting some truth, I hated fucking playing this so called "masterpiece".

ok faggot

ok nigger

It's not trying to prove anything, it's just funny

ok tranny

Halo is one of the most popular shooters, so a lot of casuals play it.
I could find someone being equally retarded in a popular PC FPS game.

Attached: 1530218061312.jpg (966x723, 65K)

ok zoomer

t: played it in 2015 instead of at release

Exactly.

>repeating what he said
ok redditor.

lmao I played it in 2004 fag, and what difference does it matter? Does the year suddenly make the game not be a hallway that is copy and pasted 1000 times over? Fuck off.

Attached: 1539194954887.png (446x361, 8K)

Halo went from a games series trying to push the industry to new heights to a copy cat series that was always following behind.
Halo 4 and 5 are basically copies of CoD and did almost nothing new.
Compare that to Halo 1 which pushed slower combat and a merging of infantry and ground combat; Halo 2 which was the first real console multiplayer game; Halo 3 introducing custom games and Forge on an unprecedented level.
Halo Reach really was a pause in the game series and could be seen as Bungie's "we are only making this for M$ and one last hurrrah" game. It did nothing new except tell an okay story and had a good multiplayer, bringing everything they ever did into one box.
Halo essentially became a dead corpse held up by necromancy and money from M$. They refused to let it die and wanted to milk it more. It did so bad they're soft rebooting the entire fucking series, ignoring Halo 4 and 5's awful story.

Doom 4 was going to be like this, a copy cat series of CoD but they canned that and sat on it. Doom 4 later came out in an era of retro shooters trying to relive the glory days and did pretty well.
If Halo wants to return to its former glory, it needs to not be held back and stop playing safe. Drop the Call of Duty gameplay and bring back the slow Quake 3 styled game play it was based on. Tell an actually good story, not a fucking awful one. Pick a new protagonist for hell's sake. Chief's should have ended with Halo 3. They could have done one about Buck or Rookie but they killed Rookie off for no reason.

Attached: 668px-Cerealguyhd.png (668x599, 112K)

even black people don't want to play as black people in games

I know, I'm black and I fucking hate Locke, you're still a faggot ass nigger though.

look at this idiot
halo was probably his first fps

>When the original Halo was released it was unlike anything else that had been done in a shooter before.
factually wrong

>Halo went from a games series trying to push the industry to new heights
Halo was nothing more than just a proof of concept that you can turn a mediocre game into a franchise if you dump enough money into the marketing budget

ok zoomer

>ok zoomer

Attached: my first fps.jpg (196x258, 13K)

This, still love Halo though.

I want a Halo rpg, like Mass Effect.

Attached: Zoomer.gif (498x364, 157K)

Halo was many years behind the times at release, still struggling to catch up to 1996's Quake. It was just a "babby's first" for consolefags.

>Halo was many years behind the times at release, still struggling to catch up to 1996's Quake.
ok retard

>game which is 19 years old this year
>zoomer
people who were literally 8 when it came out turn 27 this year bro

Exactly. People who still like Halo might not be zoomers but they were babies when the """good""" ones came out.

343 was the real Halo killer

Because Halo was never about the quality of its gameplay, it was always a mongoloid fps condemned to be on console with huge crosshair and auto aim faggotery so...
Every thing else needs to be top notch to be memorable, lore, scenario, ost, companions, banters etc... and the failed in the following sequels.
It's exactly like Gears of War, the first trilogy is amazing, 4 & 5 are dog shit.

1998
>Starsiege: Tribes
>128 players
>dedicated internet servers
>base-building
>long-range ballistic weapons
>flying multiplayer vehicles
2001
>Gaylo
>teabagging
>screaming children
>no online
>4 players hotseat, or 16 on LAN
>babby's first

...how did you hear screaming children if there was no online?

they're the only people you can convince to play halo with you

Gears was never good and unlike Halo people were already drained from it by Gears 3 and didn't want a Gears 4, honestly, I don't even know how there's a Gears 4 or 5.

you hang out with children often?

Have you tried having friends instead of bullying younger relatives to play with you?

My friends don't have shit taste.

>343 makes bad sequels that are poorly received
>Microsoft screws pooch with Xbone launch, meaning even if 343 had favor halo would still have a lower pop than it did back in the 360 days
>We wait literally over 10 years to get MCC on PC, and it's basically early access, starting with one of the worst Halo games that fewer people considered a good halo entry even when it originally launched

Everyone's doom and glooming halo here lately but the reality is I am not playing Master Chief Collection right now because I'm waiting for the actually good entries to come, not because I've lost interest in Halo.

tl;dr Wake me when you need me.

Attached: DibJi67U0AAjAQ5.jpg (540x720, 55K)

>I am not playing Master Chief Collection right now because I'm waiting for the actually good entries to come, not because I've lost interest in Halo.
Same, I have no interest in playing Reach.

they have you as friend and they don't like the original halo so they must have shit taste

>liking halo
>liking the fortnite of its gen
lmaoing@urlifefag

People realized the Xbox could play other games.

it was never good
it had aimbot so every once in a while, even the autistic kid in the class room got 5/1 k/d.
its sugar coated mediocre hype train for drones

Halo was always garbage. You were a retarded child with no taste.

Halo is the perfect example of trying to fix what's not broken. They kept adding shit nobody wanted and it just turned it into a shitty cod knockoff with obnoxious armor skins.

Attached: 1580042081023.jpg (599x448, 80K)

Xbox as a whole isn't as popular and Halo was always the face of it.

Loved Halo and my first FPS was likely Zero Tolerance. I'm 28.

Halo will always be popular. There's really nothing to talk about right now. I'm still waiting for the monkeys at Microsoft to show some gameplay footage of Infinite.

competition
cod kept eating at the casuals who drank this shit like water.Even reach didn't pull halo 3 numbers and that was a bungie game.
Halo flourished when it was the only big dog in town. Now the xboner has a diverse line of online communitys that not even the 360 had. Anyone who says other wise is some halo 3 baby or a bungiefag who thinks making ininite halo 3 part deus will make it the king of online

Attached: 1502949702665.png (550x578, 243K)

4 bad or broken games in a row.

This. Halo's strength was in it being first-of-a-kind online experience. Now that niche has since long been covered by countless other online shooters. Very few gaming IPs remain relevant for 20 years aswell. Sometimes it's best to just let the past be the past.

>all this fags in denial itt
The real reason halo isn't that big anymore is because you all grew up.

>Flood? Now mutant dog food
>Cortana? Now a bridge

Attached: D5rM8Vp.png (500x214, 152K)

>ancient humans gave their space pet dogs some fine powder they found inside a shop of unknown origin
>after a while the space dogs began to mutate and started eating them
>the space dust is actually the remnants of the Precursors mad that they were nearly wiped out by the Forerunners

Halo 4 ends with Cortana turning into a bridge and killing herself

That's only 1 and a half levels

>Halo
FINISH THE FIGHT

This. 4 was bland, uninspired and managed to be worse than Reach, being forgettable is not a good start to the series being under a new dev.

5 was way better, but 4 did some big damage to to Halo's overall popularity.

5 had a slew of its own issues. Like not launching as a complete game.

>When the original Halo was released it was unlike anything else that had been done in a shooter before.
You answered your own question.
Every mainstream shooter borrowed from Halo. The market is saturated with Halo-likes.

This, on top of the fact that the Halo trilogy is a complete and finished story that has a definitive and satisfying ending puts Halo well past its prime.
