Fired up pic related on the old 360 and I must admit yes I did do it for the nostalgia of seeing the new movie. But i digress I'm still having a blast with it! Only complaint is my thumb is actually sore from slamming down on the jump button to get this blue bastard to jump.
What do you guys think?

Isn’t this game just a compilation of all the best sonic levels
The levels are aesthetically returning yes but the actual levels themselves, the layouts are all brand new. This is also true for Mania by the way, which occasionally intentionally used setpieces from the original zones in the Act 1s.
it's great until you get to planet wisp
First of all: not necessarily the best.
Secondly: they're all dropped into two separate Sonic playstyles, classic and modern. Yes, this is the game that had the idea Forces tried to do.
The "classic" playstyle's physics are less accurate than Sonic 4, but it gets points from fans because Sonic looks right I guess? The level design is also rife with blocks and straight lines, except for (scripted) loops and stuff.
I fucking loved speedrunning Modern levels. Classics were fun too but I just love boost to win I guess.
Not at all, it's just a celebration of the series. Both Modern and Classic Sonic get 9 levels each, that are all re imaginings of the levels from past games, with 4 boss fights for Modern, and 2 for Classic.
I must agree with you going fast as fuck as modern is such a rush
It's not necessarily "boost to win" because they're not afraid of putting hazards in front of you that you can't boost through, or putting you through enough of a drought that you CAN'T keep boosting unless you play well. It's just the best boost gameplay.
My IP is blocked from making threads, don’t mean to hijack your thread OP, but am I the only one who finds the day time levels from Unleashed WAY too fast to be able to enjoy? I mean the game encourages you to go as fast as possible, even allowing you to level up your speed, but unless you play a level over and over and memorize every little hop and slide it just feels so hard and clunky even on Windmill Isle
I'm not sure about unleashed but even in generations i do feel there are some annoying times where you do have to kind of just wait for the platforming parts that kind of ruin the speed
As for memorization i feel like thats part of the fun to some extant like getting better and better perfecting the "gotta go fast"
I love it. I've speedrun Rooftop Run so many times.
Yeah, it's more like it's a memorization game, or just making sure you're looking ahead.
Sonic has always been about that. The emphasis on score and ranks has always been present. It's basically Speedrunning: The Game, where it's easy to just finish a level, but you have to play it over and over to master it in a flawless run.
>4 boss fights for Modern, and 2 for Classic.
I always wondered why the boss fights were divided so unevenly, but apparently they were going to use Dreamcast Sonic in the game as well. So undoubtedly, the Sonics would've had one rival and one boss each.
Yep, I assume they decided against dreamcast sonic because it didn't mesh well with the game's focus on a faster pace, even as classic.
honestly had more fun speedrunning modern levels than I ever had trying to speedrun any other sonic game. Honestly I never really liked speedrunning the other games at all.
Maybe it's because all you can do in generations for fun is speedrun I guess. It's not really made for exploring levels at all, but that makes it more focused on making it a better speedrunning experience.
Does the 360 version run at 60fps? The sidescrolling sections are a blurry mess at 30 on PS3.
I want to say yes, but there are framedrops.
This. The last level is such a dud while everything else is great.
Why does Sega keep trying to reinvent the series?
All they have to do is give good 3D platforming sections (I fucking hate the forced 2D parts in modern Sonic levels. Fuck Colors for starting this) and good speed parts where you can use the boost.
I think Unleashed is the only game to get the flow of Boost level design actually right. It feels like the only game where you can go through the whole thing without actually stopping, while Gens feels a lot more stop and go over and over, plus it’s 2D sections focus on platforming with Sonic’s clunky tank controls.
It's a really fun game, bit I highly recommend playing it on PC instead of the 360 due to modding community. That will extend your playtime with this game by a lot.
i vividly remember it being 30 fps with drops on 360, but then again i haven't played it on that platform since it came out
Sonic games get 0 budget since unleashed and the devs are incompetent. Any actually talented people get poached by Nintendo
