I kind of agree with him. Smash just has a lot of weird mechanics not present in 99% of fighting games. Even sakurai literally said in a direct that he's not sure if it should be considered a fighting game. At most, I think it could be called a platform fighter as opposed to a traditional or modern fighting game.

ive got a pretty good ps4 stick modded with silent sanwa but the problem is that there's not an active fighting game worth sinking time into atm.
like i'd maybe do uniclr but the anime community is only playing it because the other anime games are literally dead.

Tekken 7 is still really active on the console. I don't know about pc, dbfz got really active again with the start of season 3 and a lot of new game changing mechanics so it would be the best time to start it. Soul Calibur 6 is kinda active but i also stopped playing it like 4 months ago. Samurai Showdown has a shitty netcode don't buy it, same for smash if you want to play it online. Granblue fantasy waifu is new so it will have a active community for the next 3-4 months and then it depends how good the game is if it wants to survive. Don't know about SFV never cared about it after SF3
