If these games are fun to you, why? Not trying to hate, I just don't get it and want to find out if there is some meta I don't pick up on.

They're $1.50 right now.. buy Doom 1 and 2 and get the Brutal Doom mods and tell me that wasn't worth the money

>Brutal Doom
>Not BD Johnny, BDLite or BURLD TUMD
You know Marky Mark is a faggot when someone takes his shit and fixed it like it's theirs

Sounds like you're trying to sell something. Why are they fun to you? I've played them and can't answer that and am trying to see why or if others actually like games like Doom.

interesting...

it's legitimately less hassle to just pirate the iwads

this, if you bought them on steam you wouldn't even be supporting the original devs who made them anyway

i wonder if you guys could sell more copies of the new doom if you just made the old ones free

And if you buy them on steam now, you're paying way more than you would have ages ago with the id pack that gave you everything id put out in the 90s for like 4 bucks.

on that note I'll save my shekels to cover tax on empire of sin

Pain states are very easy to trigger in doom and they have very dramatic, fast, single frame animations whenever they're activated.

The main way you interact with the world in Doom is with your gun and this very simple mechanic makes every weapon and trigger pull feel inherently satisfying in spite of the underlying technology being over 2 decades old now, in most games enemies still don't react at all when shot.

Super shotgun, rocket launcher > shotgun

>Brutal Doom mods
Brutal Doom isn't Doom. Vanilla with QoL improvements like vertical locked mouse-aim is perfection.
Doom 1 > Doom 2
People are blinded by the ssg and forget that the city levels are worse than even the lowest point of Doom 1.

Vanilla Doom always had mouse aim. You did have to activate it using the command line, but that is just what you did for shit back in the day anyway...

It's a melee weapon disguised as a gun.

what's wrong with the city levels? They never seemed that bad to me.

BFG>>>>all

But Doom 64's shotgun is lever action.

Actually Doom 64's super shotgun and shotgun sprites are swapped

Im actually a bit upset that nu doom abandoned the western style shotty for a futuristic one. It looks ugly as fuck, and the tacticool elements just don't fit in with the Doom aesthetic.

Try playing them. Not just for two minutes. Not just to look at the graphics and say "lol boomers" and turn it off. If you do actually play a classic Doom game with the intent of having actual fun, and you don't have fun, then it's just not for you. You're not going to get a scientific explanation for why some people like certain game mechanics.

Unlike Doom, 2 doesn't get shitter the longer you play it.

Is this opposite day? 2 starts off good and completely shits the bed after the first 7 or so levels.

Double-barreled and pump action.

Guns are well animated, enemies react to getting hit convincingly, sound effects are great, enemy design is charming and you can go fast.

I played through 1 and 2 at one point. Its not that I'm looking for people to explain why they like certain game mechanics, its more that I don't know what the mechanics are in the first place. Like a lot of people shit on games where its just run and gun bullet sponges, and in my experience these took it to the max where its a single level maze and you point and click and every now and then a wall would open up.

If folks are into that, fair enough, I'm just curious if there is some deeper aspect to it, like if speed running it is popular, or if there is something in it thats hard to do that only a subset of people are aware of

I always liked Turok 1's auto shotgun.

Different tastes user. I'll never understand how someone can see any appeal in jrpgs, but retards here love them like coke (and cock)

>Brutal Doom

I feel ya, fair enough

>double-barrel shot uses 1 cartridge
was this always a thing? Alt. fire? I can't remember

>linear interpolation
gay

Its ironic i feel like getting 64 over eternal.

It's literally just some quality of life improvements and grafix if you turn off the new weapons and monster behavior you nerds, let the kids enjoy doom

Attached: 1583068021591.jpg (183x320, 33K)

Always a thing. No alt fire but the Shredder is the 'upgraded' shotgun, so to speak.

while I don't mind people playing with brutal doom, if you're going to turn off those features you might as well use something like Nashgore or Dead Marine

There are two types of shells I guess. Normal shells like you show which have a nice ricochet. The explosive ones that blow holes in enemies.

BURL TUMD is meme garbage, agree with everything else

This is disgusting

Very simple concept very challenging and complex in execution, tons of playtime to be had with wads and map packs. Resource management is king which makes it less of a mindless shooter and more of a tactical game than most modern tactical games.
Try pistol starting, it's where you start every level by killing yourself or putting in a console command so you spawn with the default loadout. I'm pretty sure almost every doom 1 and 2 level can be completed like this and it adds so much to the map design when you need to really figure out each level instead of walking into every one with a full arsenal.
