Have you ever reached Big Boss rank, Yea Forums?

Hard mode: No special items in MGS1.

No, best I ever got was no kill, no encounter on Extreme in MGS2. What rank is that, Foxhound?

Sounds about right.

I've never done it yet either. Might make an attempt when I've got the time, the guides out there are pretty robust and it'd be nice to feel like a real /smooth operator/ and style on one so hard.

If you have to use a guide it's not earned and you're a fag.

It's not a puzzle game, shitter. Playing blind the first few times before using a guide to ace something still demands you be good at the moment-to-moment gameplay.

By your logic, watching anyone play a game is cheating.

Well yes if you want to beat an MGS game on highest difficulty for the best rank and you first watch a video of someone doing that run and explaining everything you're basically cheating.
If you can beat it on highest difficulty without a guide, why do you need one to get the Big Boss rank? Just fucking play the game and get good.

>You've never read GameFAQs for a list of high-yield monsters
>You've never participated in forum threads theorycrafting good builds
>You've never divined some obscure video game mechanic with the help of some turbo autist who's already clocked 200 hours
>You don't know the 5 secrets of level 2 in Bubsy 3D

Cry harder, contrarian. Learning tricks like hanging off of ledges for the invincibility frames in MGS2 is cool shit I don't care to learn the hard way because of some misguided notion of guides making me illegitimate.

I'm kind of ashamed that I've never Big Boss ranked MGS1, not only that but I've never beaten it on Extreme.
I have all trophies in MGS2, but I never got the Big Boss rank, only the Foxhound rank (or whichever is 2nd, forgot if it's fox or foxhound) MGS3 I got the highest rank because it's piss easy and MGS4 as well.

I've played MGS2 the most times by far, and I can beat it on Extreme and have multiple times before, but the Big Boss Rank just seems real fucking tough with the limited saves. MGS1 has aged a little and I never felt comfortable playing it on PAL, now that I own the NTSC version and it actually feels significantly better to play, maybe I should try and beat it on Extreme for once.

Not gonna lie, the Ray fight on European Extreme intimidates the absolute shit out of me. I've got a DualShock 3 and PCSX2's plugin for pressure-sensitive face buttons, but something about it didn't feel right and I couldn't quite dial it in.

I was accidentally shooting people unless I was overly cautious when lifting my thumb off the square button.

Any tips?

I only beat it on Extreme, never E-Extreme. Extreme is doable, but from what I remember E-Extreme hardly has any rations at all in the game so it's probably really fucking rough to get through that whole arsenal gear section of the game.

I don't really know what tips I can give, you just have to get really comfortable and consistent with the controls and be fast, that battle is pretty much keeping perfect reflexes for the 8-10 minutes it takes to beat it.

I like the feeling of sneaking on higher difficulties but some of the bosses/action sections are a total headache. Fuck Solidus's choke on anything above normal.

Just tap the button to unequip the weapon.

That "Any tips?" was severely misplaced. Didn't proof read my post and meant to ask about the Metal Gear fight.

I've been trying to avoid using the unequip button as a workaround, but I might just end up needing to deal with it.

>Fuck Solidus's choke on anything above normal.
This is wrong. I can agree that Extreme is.. well extreme, but I think that MGS2 SHOULD be played on Hard, anything below that and you're legitimately missing out on shit, like boss patterns and things like that. It feels like MGS2 was actually balanced around the hard difficulty.

I'll say this, it is crazy impressive to me how much thought was put into the difficulties of MGS2, so many small things change that go beyond "you have less health".

Why the fuck haven't they released the collection on PS4

>minmaxing shit is the same thing as completeing a challenge.
I understand it of you're a completionist, but that's not your title.

>This is wrong.
It's not wrong. Solidus's choke is a tedious pain in the ass on anything above normal. I don't like the feeling of almost destroying my PS2 controller. I like playing the game on harder difficulties for the most part, but certain sections just aren't appealing. I usually just play on hard mode and bite the bullet with Solidus's choking.

Because konami is a slot machine company that doesn't give a shit about games.

It really isn't, it's perfectly doable on Hard.
The torture in MGS1 on normal is harder than the choke hold on Hard in MGS2.

>The torture in MGS1 on normal is harder than the choke hold on Hard in MGS2.
Maybe in the HD Collection release.

Is this how MGS is left behind? as a 720p hd collection on the ps3/360?
They HAVE To do another one, they have to put it out on PC.

yes, 2 is my favourite and is by far the hardest.
3 is piss easy, I can Foxhound+Markhor it on E.Extreme with 0 meals eaten. Never shot all the Kerotans, though

Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

They don't "HAVE" to do anything. Kojima was the visionary behind it. I'd rather it die with V, Survive being remembered as the bad joke it was, and the franchise as a whole be fondly remembered.

There may never be a spiritual successor, but that's fine. We have 1 thru 5, Peace Walker, Portable Ops, and for some weirdos, Acid.

I'm saying, they have to do another HD Collection, they can't fucking leave it as a 720p one.
They need to future proof it more than that, put out a 4k one and it'll probably last 10+ years, I don't think we'll go above 4k anytime soon because there's just no purpose, but 720p is actual shit and barely even hd.

Ray is just tedious.
Olga is a bitch.

nah mgs1 torture is fucking ridiculous

Maybe. It's been awhile since I've played MGS1 since it's not a favorite for me. Either way, MGS2's torture sequence is obnoxious.

I feel bad for euro people that only ever played the pal version of mgs1. My sincere recommendation is buying the ntsc version on a us psn account and play the game again the way it was meant to, at its proper speed.

Yeah, I beat MGS4 No Kill/No Alert on The Boss Extreme. The only parts I remember being annoying are entirely on Shadow Moses.

the hardest part is the bike ride in act 3, but it's made pretty easy by using the cinematic auto-aim, and made even easier if you have the solar-gun.
