The game is coming out in less than a month, but did anyone of you actually preorder it? Do you have a headset to play it with? I can't justify spending this much money on a peripheral just for one game, even though I find myself interested in it. At least with getting new consoles early there's some promise to get more quality games, however with VR one would be stuck playing indie experimental shovelware until some other studio has enough balls to develop a more sophisticated title which could take another year or two. What's your take on this Yea Forums?

just watch it on youtube.
I was planning on getting the "Free" preorder when you buy the knuckle controllers but with the chinaman virus idk if its even going to be available in time
Only real Half-Life is the one where you play as Gordon. Fuck this Alyx VR bullshit.
Yeah I pre-ordered it, and I'm playing it with a Rift S.
You weren't ever going to order it anyways. Just watch an LP and stop bitching, faggot
Preordered it, I'm going to be playing on the odyssey+
I'll pirate it to play on my Vive. If I like the first 20-30 minutes ill buy it.
I find watching game footage not as exiting and sometimes just plain boring to watch compared to actually playing the same title.
I pre-ordered it today and I'll play it on my Oculus CV1.
Buying a platform for one game only is a waste of money. Rather than buying VR for one game, see it as an opportunity to experience other good VR games.
I feel like I have gotten more out of it than any of my current consoles. Most games are indie like you say, but they are also able to do new things that you can't do in traditional games that make them enjoyable even if many are short. I also personally like to see how the game design changes and improves over time, so I didn't want to miss waiting until everything has been streamlined.
Already bought and I look forward to finishing it in 5 - 7 hours of playtime.
Modders will make a non-VR version.
If it's any good to begin with that is.
>SHEPHARD ISN'T REAL
>BARNEY ISN'T REALY
>COOP SISTERS AREN'T REAL
>PLAYING AS VORTIGAUNT ISN'T REAL
Honestly, playing HL sidekicks is often just as interesting.
There's plenty to do in VR if you are capable of doing your own research instead of waiting to be spoonfed AAA movie games for lowest denominator tards like some console pleb
at that point you should just use your time to watch a decent movie.
like what? I'm already interested in the porn games but I don't know about any other good VR games
but he wants to be part of the conversation despite not having played the game
I even have VR already but I'm not buying it since I can't do full room VR and my PC is kind of weak for it anyway.
I got an index back when alyx was announced
Have about a dozen or so vr titles i've picked up since that are fun from the christmas / r@ corona virus new year sales
another two dozen or so free games / demos
plus a couple porn games I haven't really gotten into
Beat Saber, Boneworks, Pavlov, Superhot, Moss, Gorn, that new Walking Dead game and Asgard's wrath, to name a few.
I've got a rift CV1. It's still adequate. I've preordered because it's a half life game and I'm a blind fanboy for Half LIfe.
>but did anyone of you actually preorder it?
I got it with Index.
>Just for one game
then play more
Just gonna wait for the mod that makes it playable without VR.
>At least with getting new consoles early there's some promise to get more quality games, however with VR one would be stuck playing indie experimental shovelware until some other studio has enough balls to develop a more sophisticated title which could take another year or two.
I'm more willing to wait a year or two for that than play another shitty fucking console game.
It'll be available for purchase before Alyx comes out, but with much less stock than expected
That ain't happening, especially since Valve aren't releasing the full SDK of Source 2 anytime soon
i think most people will unironically just watch it on youtube or twitch streams
not saying that doesn't already happen with games, but this one in particular
I have a CV1, unless they plan to do preloads I don't see a reason to preorder the game now.
Wouldn't it then make sense for Valve to release a paid gameplay video of their own with multiple POVs so the viewer could pick how he wants to view the game being played? Cause if everyone just goes to youtube and not really buys the game because of the added VR tax they will be bleeding money regardless. Releasing a walkthrough video along with the game on the release would catch a large amount of people because the let's players couldn't possibly be fast enough to show the game themselves.
HLA is not a moneymaking endeavor, not directly at least. It's almost like a proof of concept, a AAA VR game that justifies the platform.
Valve could care less what people do outside of that. In fact being interested at all plays into their hands, a lot of people will be exposed to VR capabilities.
I would like to say they probably are in it for the long haul, not short-term profit, but it's been almost a year and they still haven't fucking fixed the drift on their 300$ controllers.
Noob here. What's stopping vr-only games from running the traditional way. Is it like drm, a check, why isn't there outrage over this being vr exclusive?
do flatniggers really
>What's stopping vr-only games from running the traditional way
the way they're designed.
It's not a simple "On-Off" switch, you would have to completely redo the controls and gameplay to get it working right.
That's why only a handful of VR games have gotten flat ports.
Oh I dunno... everything? The game looks for VR headset and controllers data to work properly. It's like trying to play Half-Life 2 without a monitor, mouse or keyboard hooked on, good luck getting through the main menu.
It'd be like playing Wii Bowling without the motion gimmick, sure you could do it but at that point you might as well be playing a different game.
>why isn't there outrage over this being vr exclusive?

So playing the Xbox port?
Well you're free to enjoy HL:A PSVR port when it comes out, for now it's PC only.
No. Controllers are slower than playing with a mouse and keyboard, but they are still capable of the same inputs. It would be closer to trying to play a SNES port where the game would need to be fully reworked to be compatible.
Lmao, spending ~600 bucks on an OG vive, not having enough to buy the game.
Find it funny because I do this shit too.
The main problem with porting VR games to flatscreen is that when they're built from the ground up for VR, EVERYTHING is done by physical interactions. Say something as simple as shoving things to the side, grabbing a shotgun shell, opening your shotgun's barrel and manually putting the shells in (As seen in the trailer) are things you do yourself.
Compared to a flatscreen game, you press R and an animation plays, a script says the gun is loaded and you're good to go.
Now in theory it could be possible that someone would script everything and bind it to keys, so every action would be automated. There would be no animations, loot would have to be sucked in automatically and puzzles requiring both hands with full 6-dimension movements would need to be scripted so they are done by pressing E or something. At this point a lot of the game's mechanics would be taken away, and it would probably be more fun to watch someone play the thing on youtube/twitch.
Over time this flatscreen mod could be improved so it looks better, plays animations for reloading and looting is done manually, but it would take a while, specially with the SDK2 not coming right away.
best thing about vr is sucking anime girl toes
guys I hate this artstyle, they copied overwatch
i have a valve friends and family sub on my steam account so I get every valve game for free
sorry to hear that man
what gaem
fallen doll
is it behind a paywall?
>kid that didn't play the Wii tries to justify a purchase
>those graphics
So this is the power of PC exclusives?
this game has literally 0 hype. there's no way it's coming out in 3 weeks unless it's nu-valve dogshit and they've already given up
Not if you go to the usual place
It's just an animation player though, barely any customization
>usual place
nyaa?
Now we can truly put the can in the trash with precision.
f95
I'm gonna pirate it, never paid a single cent for vr shit lmao
cheers.
I did have a Wii. I appreciate that it set consoles on a path towards closing the gap towards mouse like control, but that doesn't actually do anything new for games. The limited motion tracking wasn't precise enough to actually be able to take advantage of it so most games just set acceleration to emulate a button press. Playing VR games feels much more similar to the N64 where it was a more dramatic shift in gameplay that came with a learning curve for developers.
>finishing it in 5 - 7 hours of playtime
The game is said to be 15 hours long. You'd have to rush through it to get done in half or a third of the expected playtime. Why would you do this.
>going out of your way to announce you're pirating a game Valve is pretty much handing out like candy on Halloween on an an anonymous image board
how pathetic can you get?
People said the same about Walking Dead but I finished that in like six hours, so now it's easier to just temper expectations and be pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed.
Even though I have an WMR headset I don't think I'm gonna even play this unless it's playable on m/k on screen. Tired of the setup and forehead sweats associated with VR gaming.
>Tired of the setup
What setup? Are you one of those people who unplugs the headset and returns it to the box and rearranges your furniture every time you play vr?
Nintendo has done more harm to VR and motion controls than any other single entity
I never unplugged the headset but it always needed to be recalibrated to the room every time I wanted to use it for some reason.
Sounds like your room lighting/layout keeps changing.
WMR has some issues but that one's easily avoidable so long as your lighting is good and there are enough clear landmarks for the HMD to recognize.

I'm glad that regular motion controls are starting to get more popular despite the initial bad reputation. Nintendo was responsible for that bad reputation that definitely set them back, but they also stuck with it long enough to finally prove that they are a step forward over a regular controller. Without Splatoon, I doubt I would have changed my opinion. Sony and developers for PS4 are certainly not helping since I have to buy PC ports to actually take full advantage of my PS4 controller. In regards to VR, I have a hard time telling if Yea Forums is just pretending to be stupid or actually doesn't understand how controllers and game design work. I would like to belive it is just pretend, but some people really go all out exaggerating what the Wii was capable of.
Who is this guy he is familiar
the game can be played sitting down you know
>thinking it was a matter of tracking, which the IR camera helped a lot and not that he's been gaslighted into believing doing menial tasks by moving his arms is "fun"
lol

this makes the vrfas cry
They are going to have the gman rape Alyx in vr. Thatd be awkward.
Yeah seriously, how do you rape a pair of floating hands
