its an hour long demo
isn't undertale an hour long "game"
its around 4 to 6 but you can stretch it to 10 if you have autism
Why "game"? It has actual gameplay. Your opinion on how easy it is has no bearing on it being actual gameplay.
For a hour long demo it's pretty popular. I don't think you have any idea about how indie demos aren't even talked about at all.
If you wanted a Deltarune thread you could just say so without making up a bunch of nonsense.
Well, they had a fine point there though. But I definitely don't think deltarune is unpopular. There are plenty of merch and there's a lot of fanart and even doujin for just a demo. Of course it is because it already have undertale previously to pick from it but still.
Look at this filthy degenerate, someone should tell his mom who he's spending his time with.
Don't they still have /vg/ generals and fanfics of Deltarune? I'd be impressed if I wasn't so disgusted
...
It's more popular than the undertale demo was.
>overrated
No one is impressed by your shitty zoomer opinions, fuck off back to .reddit
haha stop!
I never called it a bad game
>wrong version
here, let me fix your mistake
cool, much better
>do a flip, fabbot
Thank you.
I just looked through my folder of OC from the original Travis thread and realized it was 5 years ago, fuck me.
undertale got popular with streamers for having a simplistic but distinctive artstyle, basically no difficulty that wasn't self-inflicted (including genocide), feel-good messages, a great soundtrack, and being like two or three hours total in length
deltarune won't be as popular for streaming/mass-exposure because its demo is already longer than undertale's entirety, it's more of a standard rpg to the point of using a generic fantasy setting as the veneer for the first chapter's dark world, it's deliberately playing with the expectations of people coming from undertale with kris being a freak and returning undertale characters being very different/not knowing who you-the-player are, and it's already playing with some darker ideas like susie being a violent bully and noelle's father dying of monster-cancer in the hospital
if all is right in the world toby will take advantage of the fact that nobody cares about deltarune in comparison and let is plow toriel on the side, we're the adopted son and a horny teenager anyways, susie's not putting out yet and it seems like she divorced asgore for a really petty reason (again)
Nothing that you said is correct.
are you going to actually rebut any of that or
I think the words, "plow toriel" were correct.
It took me 30+ hours to do everything the game had to offer
It didn’t have any memes or catch praises that took off. Closest thing is Jevil but “I can do anything” is entirely forgotten while Sans got memed into smash.
I want to believe that Deltarune will end up being a metacommentary on Undertale fans who took the game a bit too far. I feel like there were glimpses of that.
Thanks for replying for me. They talk about deltarune's generic fantasy setting as undertale is any more creative than that and this trope is popular. Both games have a lot of popular tropes. Deltarune isn't dark at a point that turns people down and it's nowhere near that. For it to reach that point the game would need to completely change its core and narute drastically, no one will get very cartoony colorfull characters that seriously.
As much as I doubt it, it would be really nice if this was something. I think the game will end as a commentary of limited choices in games and honestly I am praying that they dont go for this route. It's dumb as fuck and easy to complain when this is something that is normal due to eletronic limitations, not psychological aspects, and I am certain toby isnt going to be the first one to present a solution to that.
It's not actually out yet?
I think it'll be "you don't have a choice" but not as deep as that, Undertale was popularized on being able to choose at a fair amount of the game's points and Deltarune throws it out the window while also making it something of a plot-point that when Kris is moving around on his own you're not in control of him.
I think that the game will use the "survey something" from the demo at some point. I honestly just wish that toby toned down with the 4th wall breaking and meta. It would come way too cheesy and cheap and that he isn't just able to write something interesting without it.
??? What the fuck are you talking about
Were you even here when deltarune came out? It was like Yea Forums when undertale first came out, a great time
tell us what its like being retarded
I miss the demo threads and launch threads, shitty as they were.
It somehow attracted more furries than undertale.
Because there's no conclusion to it yet, retard
People grow up
Undertale was popular because of 13 year old zoomers that have never played Earthbound before
Genocide grinding is a real bitch if you're doing it without exploits.
>tfw I like all three characters
Because Undertale was a finished game
Bлaд, Paзбaнь мeня yжe, peaльнo.
furfag
...and a Cyka Blyat to you too, russian friend!
You like sparing people, don't you user?
Having to replay what is mostly the same game 3 times is a bad thing
no, i tried killing susie and lancer
Guilty as charged
I mean undertale was a simple subversion of rpg genre's nature, in the exact same way it was moon RPG remix. So I thought deltarune would follow the same aspect in that terms, what I said it isn't really anything deep at all. Also, Toby should learn to be more subtle about the theme of the story. There are points where it is nearly spit out, not only from the start but from characters like ralsei's speech before entering that big door to find susie, well, at least it can avoid people to overthink it.
asriel is cuter than ralsei
>
I WARNED YOU BRO
I TOLD YOU DOG
This, Toby's achieved the very desirable status of being so popular anything he makes is going to automatically have some hype behind it.
Having said that. Yeah Deltarune just doesn't captivate quiet the same way Undertale did. Combination of a few reasons:
>Toby might have dropped most of this best ideas on Undertale
>Deltarune is trying to expand on what's actually a pretty simplistic combat system, it's not actually really suited for party mechanics
>Undertale benefited immensely from people not having high expectations going in, Deltarune does not have that benefit
>Undertale's demo was actually pretty boring compared to the rest of the game, Deltarune might have a similar issue
This.
One hit wonder as every indie dev. No indie dev has 2 sucessful games.
I WANT TO FUCK THE CUTE GOAT MAGE
the cute goat mage is a judas and forcefully inserting himself into the prophecy
Deltarune's current release is way more popular than it's equivalent, the Undertale demo.
I first learned about Undertale through the demo when it was being shared on Yea Forums, and I learned about that because of nsfw goatmom art.
Edmund hit it fairly big with both Super Meat Boy and Binding of Isaac. Latter definitely made a bigger splash though.
Yeah everything about the set-up is suspicious, kind of goes without saying the prophecy is misleading us and Lancer actually being the Prince seems likely.
Part of me wonders whether Toby has the balls to make Ralsei turn out to be a villain after going to such a length to make him endearing.
Maybe because it's incomplete you fucking retard.
>and Lancer actually being the Prince seems likely
I doubt it. I think this is another case of the demo making people think a character will be more important than it actually is. Lancer is going to be like Toriel in the sense that you won't see him anymore past the demo segment.
I do think Ralsei is hiding something, but it's not going to be something boring like "I am actually evil and want to take over da world", it's probably going to be something more like he adheres to the idea of darkners serving lightners so much that he would be willing to throw literally all darkners under the bus for the sake of lightners. Either that or the prison scene hints at Ralsei knowing the difference between Kris and (You) and actively conspiring with Kris to eventually get rid of your body-invading ass.
The goat should have staid black and green instead pink and white, that alone ruined it for me.
Good boy
I don't think this is going to happen to toby and even then it's mostly because deltarune has ties with undertale in its nature so if it becomes a hit, it will be for obvious reasons.
I think Undertale is one of the best games ever made but I couldn't get past the intro of Deltarune.
Undertale starts with a clever gameplay interaction right off the bat and the intrigue instantly grabbed me.
Deltarune starting off is just advancing dialog for characters I don't give a fuck about in a world I don't give a fuck about. I'm not against the oh-so-quirky style of storytelling but Undertale got to the point and gave me a stake in it in less than a minute.
I never did get to any gameplay in deltarune. I'd always abandon it during the intro and then I'd be more and more reluctant to button through all that dialogue again, and at this point I'll probably never pick it back up.
Why would he heal the king and show him mercy if he was evil?
Can you really say that when ralsei was so understanding of Lancer's dad not being taking down peacefully? It would make no sense to pull that later on.
Both UT and deltarune begin the game right away with a cheap shock factor.
I think the "stake" your given in Deltarune is meant to be your investment in the new alternate version of your favorite characters. It's flimsy but that's the feeling I was given when I played through it.
>characters I don't give a fuck about
So you didn't retain any attachment at all to the UT characters?
>One is out
>One is not out
Undertale suffers from the same problems most of the time too though. The game gives you right away the choice of deciding each monster's fate by sparing or killing them when they had just some few minutes of screen time for you to care about them. You only get to care more only after seeing the genocide route or in second playthroughs to see how things would be different. The only character I were genuinely worried about killing was papyrus for him being a helpless idiot that really didn't mean bad.
because he's got two simps to impress
considering toby's relation to homestuck, i wouldnt be surprised if they went a meta route like that
>forcefully inserting himself
I'll forcefully inset myself into Ralsei, if you catch my drift.
Its not like he lied about anything, for now he is a good boy
in UT you start off with the "I fell into the cave full of monsters, I should get out, oh shit a flower" a player is set with a definite goal immediately. deltarune feels a bit aimless.
They aren't supposed to be the same characters from UT.
>I think Undertale is one of the best games ever made
I get that you might like the writing and characters, but it's a walking sim with a timing-based minigame for combat
>we need to shut off the dark fountain to restore balance
>there's one right behind me but mm-mm nope i'm not even going to offer the option of shutting off the dark fountain for an empty town that i'm the prince of
>let's go shut off the one in this populated kingdom
When's Deltarune coming out you fucking shitty dog I swear to god
>They aren't supposed to be the same characters from UT
But the game doesn't tell you that from the start. Did you not have even the slightest bit of curiosity about it?
>timing based minigame
Have you played it?
>but it's a walking sim with a timing-based minigame for combat
????????????????
desu I was more intrigued with the character creation and the part where the game asks you
>Do you like your creation? (it won't hear your anwer)
The whole thing was so ominous and creepy I really wanted to see how the game will play out on that but it's a shame it was just a bait and switch for the "your choices doesn't matter here"
Yes, but 60% of players only ever played pacifist.
Honestly I found it pretentious and cringe.
Attack is not combat, just a part of it. Combat also encompasses defense, which 90% of UT's gameplay is about. And that is definitely not a "timing based minigame".
Reminder that Asgore is the only good Goat.
No, next dumb question
Tiny sexy gote is better
But black goat is the best one
It's not finished. And it isn't as novel as Undertale.
how the fuck is bullet dodging a timing based minigame
Because it's not out yet you retard
Chapter 1 is a demo, in the same way Undertale had its demo released earlier
I felt that with the actual story. The tsundere lizard girl who acts though but actually just an insecure bully.
it was the kind of "oh I've seen this before"
the character creation with random stuff like fav bloody type and shit was more like "okay, this could be something new and interesting"
Also I take the goat shota over lesbians any time.
I felt that way because the game/story didn't even start, there was no reason to throw meta right off the bat. It felt like starting a story with a cheap shock factor effect phrase, something that genuinely looks really cheesy. I am not looking forward for deltarune to be anything well written, undertale wasn't. I just hope for a simple fun game. Also I felt the same way about susie which is why she wasnt interesting at all. But I feel it's too early to give the final judgement regarding characters.
>streamers made undertale popular
I've never heard anything so retarded. It got popular through word of mouth, furry porn, and memorable music.
When the demo came out, Yea Forums talked about it nonstop until release. You are so fucking stupid. The game was all over tumblr as well.
Combat is still underwhelming, and the funny dialogue options are less charming when you have to repeat them every time you encounter an enemy.
I want to play the full game already. The demo threw all kinds of neat plot hooks at me, and I find pretty much all of them interesting.
Will Kris and (you) get along?
How will Asriel look like?
What caused the divorce?
What's onionsan's secret?
What's up with Gaster's vault near the town?
Will Susie blow Noelle off?
What's with Papyrus and Hapstablook?
>tfw full game probably won't even answer all the burning questions people have had over the years
I have a feeling that'll be the case.
He said on twitter that some stuff of eps1 might change so who knows
>What's up with Gaster's vault near the town?
What?
>why would he heal the evil guy if he was evil?
Did you really just ask that?
KEK
It's 20 hours long if you do all three routes and you should as there's rather little overlap.
fan theory bait, he'll probably leave the gaster thing open.
My guess is the main story is going to be about mopy romance subplots and stupid drama.
I have a strong feeling toby is gonna try way too hard for this and it's gonna be a plot but the fans will defend it wether it's good or not.
>Asgore
>evil
You can find this to the south of the town and it plays gaster theme but slowed, so who knows
I genuinely believe that there isn't much that can be done about undertale's combat. Deltarune played better but that doesn't even mean a lot really.
I mean, the game is more about defending than attacking because it is a bullet hell so unless you are really bad at it, equips don't matter that much and if you decide to spare enemies, you wont even need to worry about weapons either. Same for skills. Even when a game have a gimmick, at some point you will get tired by playing the same thing in the same way again and again.
based illiterate retard
Haha woops
>to fuck with everyone chapter 1 in the full game goes off the rails from what happened in the demo
Come on Toby, do it.
It is nearly 500 days since the DR demo dropped
Where is the fucking game, dog?
That would be such a damned shame.
>Kris breaks his neck and dies the very first time he falls into the dark world
S U B V E R T E D
Deltarune's set in a bizarro verse where humanity was trapped underground instead.
Maybe he's reading some threads and comments about it and developing the game based in people's expectations, who knows.
Undertale was immensely popular on Twitch and other streaming sites and that is a mind-numbing amount of exposure, what the hell are you smoking? Deltarune's demo was streamed (to lesser audience counts) by a lot of previous Undertale streamers.
Ooops i forgot source
twitlonger.com
>4. "Is this the game's final design? Will you change anything?"
>It's possible I could change things. This is basically a demo. I might even change this first chapter before release depending on how development goes.
Pretty sure Deltarune isn't even finished yet.
Why the fuck is susie not real yet?
I'm most interested in the other super bosses Jevil talks about. From what he said some queen went around corrupting people, making them "see" things so if Toby continues to capitulate on this it might be the most interesting part for me.
A lot of people moved on from undertale already. The game is already 5 and so on years old, I say that but people don't believe. This is literally the only place I see it being brought up often. The only time I saw undertale again anywhere else was with deltarune's demo and the sans costume but it died down again. I have no doubt that when deltarune launch things might change though. But right now, even if it's not as popular as UT was, it certainly isn't unpopular for a demo.
Don't remind me
If we go by chess and Jevil there is the Queen and the Knight, maybe a Bishop comes up sometime later
If we had more shit like Jevil the party would make sense, but only if Susie became actual tank mode and could, for instance, taunt
>From what he said some queen went around corrupting people, making them "see" things
Are you sure you're not remembering wrong? He only mentions a "queen" in one line of dialogue and says nothing about corrupting people or making them see things. Sure you're not thinking of Seam talking about whoever drove Jevil crazy?
Pretty sure the 'making em seeing things' person is Gaster, and that the queen is a different character altogether
I forgot about this comic. Wish I hadn't remembered.
>It's a "emotional fight because the guy you're fighting against misses his attacks on purpose" episode
Okay I think I got it after the 3rd time, Toby
Try and find some new material
>streamers
No. It's popularity was boosted a lot by lets players but it was already popular by that point
>two to three hours
More like five or six
>deltarune's demo is longer than Undertale
It's not
>won't be as popular with streamers
It will be even moreso. The game hasn't even come out.
AUTISM
trying to dichotomize between streamers and let's-players is just being nitpicky
I think you're retarded
Ah, so you didn't play it.
>five or six
If you're playing genocide.
How?
you don't play it 3 times, you play it twice except for the last hour or so of neutral, which you play true ending/
sorry, but that's not gaster in there. it's their house.
Wonder if we'll get any more playable tharacters beyond Ralsei and Susie
most let's-players like markiplier stream and did so for their undertale playthroughs
>four hours to take some side paths
Stop pulling up playtime estimates for this game to base your arguments on.
Although I disagree I get what you're saying, it sets up the game first and the overarching lore creeps in while in Deltarune it just tries to frontend the plot before throwing you any mechanics which would be a turnoff for me if I wasn't already invested in UT
Probably Noelle.
Noelle, probably.
Streaming wasn't a huge thing for that crowd until 2016. Simply googling shows he played it in 2015 and then did it again in 2016 on stream. His initial playthrough is what boosted the popularity of it.
define "unpopular"
(you)
Am I the only one who got a heavy feeling that religion is gonna be an important aspect of this game?
Deal with it bitch-nigga.
80% of the playtime is walking right and reading unskippable dialogue. It's a VN with occasional shmup sequences.
Yeah you're right, I am talking about who Seam was speaking about. Right the queen didn't corrupt anyone but she should still be one of the super bosses I at least hope.
...Why?
Berdly is also likely. Considering that like Susie and Noelle he has a unique soundfont for his dialogue.
t. didn’t play it and is just shitposting
>gets proven wrong with evidence
>"D-deal with it, b-bitch nigga..."
How sad!
I played it, here's proof, and I agree with
>proven wrong with evidence
>time estimate that gives FOUR HOURS EXTRA for a game that has very few alternate paths and jno mandatory puzzle that's complicated enough to get stuck on
I wish more people in this board could throw the actual definition of game until anons stopped coming with this bullshit. Does Undertale have a set of rules and conditions of winning and victory? Yes, so it means it's a game. A VN without any of that like Umineko for example isn't a game.
How do I activate the 2x speed mode that you played it on?
Because once the full game comes out, the Internet will temporarily crash
I'm struggling to think of how it took somebody eight-and-a-half without stopping or getting lost for long periods, the first one listed is already five-and-a-half. Where the hell is the playtime estimate getting ten-and-a-half from? There isn't enough extra content to make it take that long.
Funny I thought the reverse was true
Kek
Wait how is the secret lab + anime Asriel 3 hours?
Undertale was part fad in its success. I was in college when it came out, and in a group chat for a vidya club I was in had a decent group of people that just gushed about it for couple weeks. A few months later most, if not all of them, went back on it and said that its bad/the community ruined it for them, I'm pretty sure Deltarune won't get as big regardless of how good it is for that reason, people are extremely superficial and largely care about what liking something makes them, and this stuff is now largely viewed as strange/cringy/furry. The community also toned way the fuck down and isn't in crazy shill mode like they were for UT. It hasn't released yet though, and it could always change.
Asriel was a choir boy, there's a church that everyone but Kris seems to go to, there's a clear divine figure. I dunno, it just felt really intentional seeing as how Undertale lacked that angle entirely
You mean like precisely what Undertale did?
What kind of new team attacks/interactions would you want to see?
>Deltarune remains quite unpopular in comparison
It's not out yet retard
Probably getting every little bit of dialogue.
I need a helicopter axe attack ala Superstar saga

Homestuck is coming back
Using Ralsei's pointy hat as a drill or battering ram
youtu.be
>moderately enjoyed Undertale for what it was
>have very little motivation to care for Deltarune since it just repurposes the same characters for a new story making the prior game feel like it didn't really matter
I'll probably just read the synopsis and check out the soundtrack when it's finished.
Homestuck 2 doesn't count, Hussie isn't writing the thing. It's a glorified fan-adventure.
Go read Karkat Goes to a Convention instead.
Good point, going from the end to the beginning to talk to Asriel and other dialogues would take a while
It's written by fans so who gives a shit
Only Hussie can write Homestuck, and sometimes not even he can
Bruh, that's damn stupid decision.
There are enough new characters to care about, it doesn't repurpose old ones for most of the demo.
And the OST is honestly better than UT's, it's filled to the brim with bangers
Most of the old characters are NPCs and shopkeeps to begin with and the remaining ones central to the overall storyline are either not present (Papyrus, Mettaton, Asriel), barely present (Toriel, Sans, Undyne, Alphys), or deliberately fuck with you for expecting to know them because it's a completely different setting and world (Sans again), and a lot of them got shaken up like Catty and Bratty being much older, not friends (even though they still got along in a weird way), and Catty being a trailer-trash housewife
There's dialogue for every room for Papyrus and Undyne phonecalls, after beating the game on true pacifist every npc has new dialogue and you can backtrack all the way to the start to talk to Asriel. There's a whole slew of things that can increase game time, also reading speed might also change how long the game is played dramatically
>It's overrated
>No I never played it, but my opinion is fucking right
Are you serious? Homestuck will never come back. All hype surrounding any upcoming media is basically dead in the water.
>It's been over two years since Hiveswap part one has come out
>Epilogue has killed off what little likeability there is in the cast with no progress in sight
>Homestuck 2 is just a glorified fanventure that Hussie likes. Only redeeming feature is Vrissy and Karkat banging Meenah.
>Pesterquest retcons Roxy into a nigger MID-SERIES
>he shift away from Homestuck's biggest assets, Skaia and the Classpect system, leaves the series a shell of what it once was. If Hussie actually wanted a Homestuck 2, the best way was to have it set in the future with a new set of kids and trolls about to play SBURB 2.
>SBURB 2
fuck that sounds great
new classes and aspects, with old ones finally getting explained
I was actually relatively excited from the epilogue for being apparently aware that everyone fucking hated the second set of human kids and played up all of their negative personality traits, and playing into some fandom memes for the original kids like dog-dick Jade. Calliope's company changes Roxy into a genderfluid airhead who still openly wishes John was around, Jane is a xenophobic genocidal racist with a lactation fetish, Jake is a spineless cuckold, Dirk is such a narcissist that he gains narrative awareness from being so up his own asshole that all of his minds from all of his alternate selves converge.
Not to mention Rose technically cheating on Kanaya and Dirk making Dave gay
Not to mention Jasprose is going to fuck Jane gay soon as well
Everyone is gay because it's great.
Hussie making anybody gay was the first sign of bad things because that makes no sense for a creation-myth video game with even gender ratios.
FUCK
Reminder that Asgore killed six kids
i prefer to think asgore "slayground" dreemurr did the deed but you do find all of the other humans' gear well away from asgore himself, it seemed like they died incidentally or from exposure or something
no, it's about 6 times longer than deltarune
I think the color of the souls (their personality) also have some small things that potentially hint as to why they died. For example, bravery, died near Snowdin where the game introduced bullets that forced you to stand still to dodge

Sans was hard
I would say to stop at game over instead and imagine whatever the fuck happened next, it would surely be better than what actually happened
