Had never played it until 4 years ago and its one of the most atmospheric games with some of the best character writing I've ever experienced. Do you really like games like Skyrim by any chance?

Idk if this is bait but I actually kinda agree. Played it for the first time last year and did not get the hype. The characters and writing were decent at best and outside Nosferatu taking tunnels and the Malks hearing voices your clan and choices hardly change anything. Was lame as fuck that regardless of who I wanted to "side" with I was getting the same missions and interactions with both sides with minor flavor text differences. Highlights of the game were the haunted hotel and the mansion and both of those were more just because they were neat concepts. The level design and gameplay in them end up just as clunky as the rest of the game. For how God awful the game actually plays I expected more from the role-playing side of things. I get what people like about it but I think this legendary cult status as one of the greatest games of all time is way overblown and it's more along the lines of an old PS2 game you see posted in a hidden gems thread like Darkwatch or some shit
