One of the things I find interesting about armor like this, is that it existed in a time when the rest of the world existed. Strange, I know. And not everyone wore armor like this. There were different styles, different levels of practicality, different levels of advancement, different cultures and battle tactics. Some warriors in the same time armor like this existed, wore minimal armor, or even no armor at all. Some still had the idea that going to wore meant a loincloth and warpaint still.

And that's just that age. Even later whent he conquistadors hit the americas, with their metal breastplates, helmets, and, oh yeah, guns, the people they ran into didn't wear armor like they did. However, go back a bit, and go east from europe into asia, and there was armor, but armor of very different types. Same as in that full platemail era, different peoples, different styles, different armors, some less practical based on a number of different factors.

Now go back in time to the bronze age, or the neolithic. What people wore into battle not only differs drastically based on time period, but even within the same time period. And that's what always frustrates about a lot of these discussions where people start pupping out the platemail pictures as if every single discussion about 'practical armor' in RPGs needs to revolve around particular european countries in incredibly particular timeframes ignoring other places in the world at that time, and ignoring other timeframes entirely.

If a woman, in a fictional fantasy medieval setting, were to commission a full garniture for her it would look extremely feminine if she's slender with normal looking female hips. Because it would be proportional and form fitting in order to be functional.

Greaves for example had to be 1:1 to your actual calves to accommodate your leg when your muscles tense. Same with shoulder proportions and cuirass shape. Breastplates/plackarts and cuirasses were made with natural waistline wedges to allow mobility which already looks feminine. Armor in these pics show the slender body of their wearers. They don't need to be bulky to be protective. Armors were built to shield you from cuts and thrusts while allowing you to move as much as possible. They weren't these medieval power armors around you that could withstand cannon fire.

The Fallout weapons look dumb because Bethesda clearly doesn't understand how firearms work, and they can't do the Lancer thing and make them look cool. They are stuck in a rut of being shitty designers and shitty artists. Pic related is a TERRIBLE gun if you dissect it compared to our modern interpretation of firearms, but the designers specifically gave /k/ the middle finger and said "It looks cool, shove it up your ass.", and everyone was fine with it, because they're right. It's not a real firearm.

No, that's not how it works. If you don't understand how guns work, you are not free from criticism when the magazine doesn't line up with the receiver, or the ejection port is left-handed, or you go full Bethesda and just make left-handed bolt action rifles the standard for a right-handed character. This carries over to how tanks or jets are represented, and it's no different when it comes to armor regardless of whom is wearing it.
