the action-adventure genre moved towards navigating linear corridors after the mid 2000s
i mean Id say there have been great action games since then (Platinum games, dmc, heck even GOW), but none of those games have captured the relentless nature of NGB.
Itagaki didn't give a single shit about sales, he just wanted to make games in his own vision.
then why hasnt he made anything decent since 2008's NGII. Devils third was a steaming pile of shit with flies around it.
Number one thing Ninja Gaiden did was give feedback. Hitting an enemy with your weapon just feels so good. The blood spurt, the sound effect, the vibration in the controller, enemies recoiling from getting hit..it's all perfect. Decapitating a soldier with flying swallow and watching a geyser of blood shoot out is just so satisfying. And Ninja Gaiden 2 just cranked that visceral feeling even more to where every encounter is like the crazy 88 scene from Kill Bill. Devil May Cry can have the most in depth mechanics ever, but when there's zero feedback and it feels like you're slashing at air who cares.
You just listed his last two games. Devil's Third went through development hell then he retired.
Soon
>Devil May Cry can have the most in depth mechanics ever, but when there's zero feedback and it feels like you're slashing at air who cares
THis right here. Idk what it was but fighting in dmc never feels satisfying. Feels like ur slashing at air.
it's controls just feel amazing
even after DMC5, which does great things in different ways, no game has combat and movement quite like NGB
ninja rolling, snapping the camera with the trigger, countering attacks, all feel so airtight
what separates it is it's focus on defensive maneuvering
managing large groups of enemies with deadly AI by rolling, guarding, wallrunning, countering - nearly every part of the buffalo is used in standard battle scenarios
and the bosses require all the extras, knowing when to use ninpo to stun, knowing when to chain essence for UTs, knowing when to absorb a blue essence rather than use it for health
risk and reward were the name of the game, and it did it with such grace and looked stunning (still does) and ran like a dream
not sure if cookie lucked out or the long dev cycle just assured it was as top-notch
i think DOA2 and 4 are also incredible, but NG2 being iffy I can write down to his legal problems at the time
Back when Itagaki had not completely lost his mind.
This. While I still enjoy many of the newer action games I miss the adventure side games like NGB, DMC1 and to a lesser extent DMC3 had. DMCV for instance is great but there's no real exploration or backtracking, so you don't really get an intimate knowledge of the environments.
>DOA4
>incredible
Until 6 was shat out DOA4 was the worst in the series.
Based
>NG2 being iffy
how so? Yes NGII had some weird design decisions and mechanic choices, but the core combat is pure ludo. I think playing NGII atually made me better at NGB.
like anything good, right time and place. when he went out on his own it seemed msoft didn't want to deal with his eccentric nature that was buffered when he had to report to tecmo. we'll see how the leftovers handle samurai jack
if you think 5 is better than 4 you must've only played as ninja girls
the zelda-lite exploration, hub world, and dungeons made Ninja Gaiden feel more like an adventure than just going through a linear set of levels. You tell DMC fans that action games can't just be about action 100% of the time and they talk to you like you dont know what the genre is about. Fuck them. Just go play your endless bloody palace mode if that's what you want. Level design should still matter.
not enough time to playtest it tanked the framerate on higher difficulties and didn't do much other than add more enemies. plus losing the hub world and exploration didn't sit well with a lot of people. combat was goat though, which is why it was shoved back into nG3RE when that shit tanked.
>we'll see how the leftovers handle samurai jack
i'm hopeful
but at the same time, it's common knowledge NG04/NGB came out the way it did because cookie was in a constant battle with his team over many of the control and design aspects
nioh 1 and 2 are also the first team ninja games i've enjoyed since NG2, so it's good to see they can do fun, challenging and engaging combat again
>hub world
nigga where? Also can we not pretend like NGB's had some metroidvania style of world? It was literally linear with maybe one to two "turn right instead of left" to find a elixir. Not to mention the godawful platforming that had a mind of its own. Still traumatized by having to platform out of the volcano before fighting murai.
If you think 4 is better than anything other than 6, well, you don't play DOA at all.
>not enough time to playtest it tanked the framerate on higher difficulties and didn't do much other than add more enemies
Quite the issue back then on original 360 hardware, not an issue now with the Xbox One X backwards compatibility, Ninja Gaiden II turns into a solid masterpiece when played on it.
Sekiro’s better
DMC1 wasn't all action. 3 also had some light exploration and puzzles. But yeah the fanbase seems to want nothing but endless combat rooms.
The platforming was great. It was momentum-based so you didn't stop on a dime like in DMC but once you got used to it it worked beautifully. It was like the Sonic compared to DMC's Mega Man. One is big on momentum and commuting to jumps once you launch while the other is big on air control.
I have been considering getting a one x just to replay NGII and NGB along with MCC collection.
its a big 3d action game with the usual areas old games had back in the day to make it feel more grand. like you have a water level, a fire level, an ice level. more of the same but they got creative with some of the areas.
the reason the game shined though is because they merged fighting game mechanics. attack/block/throw is universal for both the player and the enemies. weapons have large movesets so you aren't just turning your brain off and mashing attack like most other 3d action games.
i'm actually playing ninja gaiden on xbox right now with the hurricane packs.
not him but 3 is good for competitive but very barebones. 2u on the same platform over-shined it unless you were sick of doa 2.
2U was great, yeah. Probably my favorite in the series. I was talking about 4 though. It's a mess.
Personally I'd wait for the series X, but the oneX is on sale a lot recently.
This is why I didn't like Nier Automata and didn't bother finishing it. Slashing robots with a sword is not satisfying. They don't feel pain so they don't recoil, and sparks flying is not a good replacement for blood spurting out. Also the metal clanging is annoying.
This thread makes me want to replay Ninja Gaiden Black but it's been a while and Very Hard is waiting for me next so I think I'll just reminisce fondly.
At this point you better just wait for the Series X then, it will have all the current Backwards Compatible games avaiable on it by default, with superior hardware it might make the older games even more technically superior than what the Xbox One X can do right now.
perfect cultural / industry context
onl;y played sigma and sigma 2. What am I missing out on?
will it though? I am not sure I want to dump 500-600 into xbox when my PC is perfectly capable of playing most Xbox games and Im more invested in the playstation ecosystem anyways. One x on the otherhand is cheaper, will be supported by the new series X games and I have the access to the back compat.
How much of this webm is edited? Because that AI basically operates like another player.
>What am I missing out on?
With Black, a harder experience than Sigma 1
With vanilla II, more than 3 enemies on screen, harder experience and all the blood; however, Sigma 2 really has more content than vanilla II
>Very Hard is waiting for me next so I think I'll just reminisce fondly
I finished it on hard but have not been able to muster courage for a replay. Pretty burned out on the enemies and bosses spamming uncounterable grabs and attacking relentlessly during your recovery frames. Grab attacks in my opinion is a huge fuckin flaw on an otherwise impeccable combat system.
You need to play Black on Master Ninja and see it for yourself.
the actual fight pans out like that webm more than you'd expect
youtube.com
They essentially looked at the action games of the time and ignored their conventions.
>What if we made a fast paced fighting game where you fight several enemies at once?
What if enemies had patterns that didn't stop to accommodate for user interaction, and just forced you to adapt to them? And then they also demanded spatial awareness, precise inputs and pattern recognition.
It took some paradigms from the 8-bit era and adapted them for a 3D action game, instead of just ripping off devil may cry. Also it looked goddamn gorgeous at the time, unlike anything else that gen.
Sigma 2's insistence of forcing you to play as not 1 but 3 other characters besides ryu-san really killed any chance of me replaying it. How is black harder than sigma 1? Less checkpoints?
sigma 1 is a weird edit to black with main perks being rachel thrown in story as a sorta bonus and ng2's dual swords, but there's a large amount of random changes. the biggest being cutting some puzzles and removing the opening story, along with making the game easier.
sigma 2 is a crazy cut down version of ng2 and feels unfinished. sigma 1 is ok but if you've played sigma 2 you haven't played ng2 in any way. imo avoid sigma 2 if its the only version you can play.
youtube.com
NG 2 is better. As for your second question, Itagaki is gone.
>weeb hipsters praise this game
>try it
>camera is horrendous, constantly switches in a tiny room and enemies attaxk from off screen
>team ninja acknowledge fans want NG4
>still have no plans to make one
>or remaster the old ones
if you won't do one, do the other
i love Nioh, but if you go straight into that new IP you're threatening for the PS5 instead of giving us an NG HD collection, you'll be the biggest fucking idiots in the industry
holy shit, sigma 2 doesnt even that kinda gore and blood. what the FUCK were they thinking?
Still wait for series x, the onex should drop massively at that point.
I don't think DMC has the deepest mechanics. 3-5 are all a total breeze for the first four or so difficulties and going SWORDTRICKSWORDTRICKSWORDTRICK might be annoying with the dpad location without a claw grip but it's still not particularly hard to do. The different moves for balrog are interesting in 5 when you do back + y but that input wouldn't even be necessary if it wasn't for the nearly useless dedicated shooting button outside of gunslinger. I honestly had a much tougher time playing something like W101 compared to DMC 3-5 up to DMD.
>How is black harder than sigma 1? Less checkpoints?
Less checkpoints/save statues, and the flying swallow gets punished much less frequently in Sigma 1.
selling it to germany, where the original NG2 was banned
the camera takes some getting used to but it's controllable
Worse, the shadow Ryu can do stuff you can't, Itagaki made it cheap on purpose.
>sigma 2 doesnt even that kinda gore and blood. what the FUCK were they thinking?
Vanilla II got banned in some countries, Tecmo wanted Sigma 2 to more accessible instead, however the sacrifice was too great.
Yeah I can see where you're coming from. Grabs force you to play like a coward, only using safe moves and rolling away at every opportunity.
You're in a better position than me to replay on Very Hard though. It's been more than 2 years since my last run through so I don't even remember the controls.
I remember immediately replaying on Hard once I unlocked it. In some ways it was easier because I was more comfortable with the game's mechanics and the new enemies made the game feel fresh.
Go for Very Hard. Do what I can't anymore.
git gud.
>cheap
You mean cool user, I wish more games strove to create AI as sophisticated as that for higher difficulties.
>bro just waste your time adhere to garbage design
Nah I'd rather spend time playing good games
Action games have essentially been hijacked by people who believe the only metric by which to judge the "depth" of any single action title is how many times you can Enemy Step off a single target.
I think playing on Hard helped me grow at the game tremendously. I learned how to utilize different combos at the right time and at times, it became a meditative state of catharsis and joy, but it often got snatched away when I cheaply get grabbed from an enemy a split second after Ryu is recovering from his previous frame. Other times, I want to fight alma or Doku head on like a swordmaster, but they also have these split second grab attacks so Id rather just stay faraway and get hits in between. They really needed a counter to grabs.
Tell you what though, I think I will definitely do very hard at some point and even Master Ninja. I am bit burnt out on the franchise at the moment and have been dabbling with Platinum's catalogue for some mindless over the top action, but I will definitely go back to NGB.
I dont see why you can't though. Its been 2 years, but believe me those moves are etched in your neurons like second nature. Go for it Ninja, you can do it.
only on Yea Forums, the next from game will sell 10x the copies
there are literally thousands of videos on youtube of players showing mastery of the game's combat system. Camera is something that can be learned within the first mission of the game. Literally git gud or go play walking sims
Bayonetta and DMC 3 said hi.
DMC's depth doesn't really come from the difficulty; it comes from the amount of expression the player has. This is also why difficulty levels starting with DMC3 don't change enemy behavior so much as their health pools; when you have all your tools and you know how to use them the game assumes you're going to want to spend more time fucking around with your options on enemies. The only DMC game that even remotely emphasizes efficiency when it comes to combat is DMC1, and even then the game is loose and encourages dicking around. The design emphasis is pretty different from Ninja Gaiden or even the old God of War.
>NG2 was shi-
Fuck this guy. Look at how bad Devil’s Turd ended up being. He’s just a fucking arrogant piece of shit who made NOTHING relevant in the past decade.
>Release a masterpiece
>Never gets a PC port
Come on Tecmo. I would buy it full price.
>Look at how bad Devil’s Turd ended up being.
THQ crashed on them, little to do with actual mismanagement.
DT was decent, definitely better than NG3/RE
that game went through development hell, not really fair when it was supposed to come out like 3 or 4 years beforehand and got a pity release on wiiu
Devil's Turd is a pleb filter.
It got a 4K port, that's good enough for me
Yeah, the feedback is fucking amazing, especially in 2. It's so fucking good that you can replay it infinitely without getting bored.
i can see it returning one day.
I think I read somewhere they lost the source code.
NG3 yeah but definitely not RE. RE wasn't great but it was decent, especially considering what they had to work with. That being said, I don't think Devils Third is nearly as bad as it's made out to be. It has some jank but it can be pretty fun. The multiplayer was great when you could find matches.
They would probably port the Sigma versions since they were chiefed by Hayashi who still works at Team Ninja, no thank you.
they're probably holding back b/c playing it with a keyboard/mouse would be abysmal
not that they couldn't force you to use a gamepad
more like Nigga Gayden
>I think I read somewhere they lost the source code.
just release it with the emulator they use for the xbox one version. the xbone isn't too far off pc architecture anyway.
based
/thread
Hello, based department?
>bro i saw a video of someone playing superman 64 with a DDR mat so you gotta play Superman 64 and master it now
No
>not that they couldn't force you to use a gamepad
I saw too many threads with Mustards getting pissed whenever a game gets released on PC with forced gamepad controls, if Team Ninja can't come up with a decent Keyboard+Mouse control scheme then better not try it, lest the Mustards review bomb the game.
>it's g-garbage design!
you will never ascend past ninja dog scrub
>it became a meditative state of catharsis and joy
As silly as that sounds it's absolutely true. Weaving in and out of enemy attacks and freestyling moves against them really makes you "feel" like a ninja. It does suck that the only way to avoid grabs is rolling.
>dabbling with Platinum's catalogue
I recommend Transformers Devastation if you haven't played it because robots in disguise are cool. You also get guns and can shoot those guns while in vehicle form.
youtube.com
>Go for it Ninja, you can do it.
Fuck it you've inspired me. I want to play 2 first on normal though because I never started it then eventually replay Black on Very Hard.
Faggot
how did you continue to play past chatper 2 in that outfit? It was my favorite one and its pretty gay that they dont let you continue on with it or even unlock it.
>comparing superman 64, a broken game, to ninja gaiden black that is unanimously considered the goat of the genre.
you are a fuckin faggot and ur thought process is an absolute waste of neurons. literally never reproduce you neanderthal
I loved this game. Wasn't there a ps3 version? How is that one?
Is master ninja mode in NGB harder than master ninja mode in NG2?
not him but die 3 times on the first level and accept the secret babby mode
you can emulate the sigma version
Bros is it worth getting the Xbone X for NGB and NG2 or should I just grab an Xbone S to replay both?
You can unlock that costume by beating Very Hard I think.
You must have played Sigma, Black has more outfits than it. However the method to keep that outfit in all versions is to select Ninja Dog, Ryu never "graduates" thus keeps his training duds all the way, with Ayane mocking him and giving ribbon accessories.
He didn't retire. He just announced he's making more shit games. Hoo-fucking-ray.
Sigma is bettee
>its the goat cause a few contrarians on a image board said so even though average people think the game is shit
Ok hipster
>Is master ninja mode in NGB harder than master ninja mode in NG2?
Subjective, since the challenge in NGII is the sheer number of enemies filling the screen and offscreen projectiles up the ass on higher difficulties. The challenge in Black is the enemies getting way smartter and countering everything you throw against them.
Holy based.
Devastation is pretty good, even with the sometimes crummy level design. It's a much more fun and interesting game to me than MGR.
NG Black has great level design. It's all one interconnected map after Chapter 3 and while you don't really backtrack through most of the areas you can see how Ryu gets around and see the different entrances and exits to main areas in the main areas that you traverse in the capital; knowing where the shop is in town is very important. The only real negative is bits where you feel like Itagaki made things incredibly grueling just for a laugh; not even super hard if you're good at the game necessarily, but an annoyance at best and a slog at worst (the staircases near the end of the game with the ghost fish come to mind).
I actually like Sigma a bit more because of some tweaks and enjoying Rachel's gameplay, but Rachel's chapters also show how good the level design for Ryu is: Rachel's chapters are relatively straight shots into fights and eventually a final encounter with very little room for exploring or secrets. It feels like most action games, and while I don't mind that because I like how she plays, you realize how good Ryu's chapters have it.
Everything about this post as well. The combat is unmatched in what it tries to do in how much it puts pressure on the player to master defense and movement in order to get their offense in. Then the boss AI, especially the Fiend Ryus, are all good-to-fantastic.
I don't think this will be a full-blown NGB successor but I'm very excited for it. There's a solid weapon variety in the trailer and I like the look of the enemies. The one thing about it is that I think the game will live and die on its boss fights; if you fight Scotsman, Scaramouche, Demongo, The Ninja, The Guardian, Aku, etc. and they aren't at least 8/10 fights it's going to feel really bad.
Sigma lets you un-invert the camera and it's not much different from Black.
>Transformers Devastation
Funny thing is that I actually ordered devastation the other day off ebay for like 20 bucks so I am pretty hyped. I loved MGR:R and vanquish even though bayonetta never interested me. Have you played TMNT by Platinum? Is it a worth a playthrough?
>I want to play 2 first on normal
Go for it. 2 is a bit easier because of the game design choices like your health recharging at the end of fights and at save points so you never have to worry about getting through encounters while having no elixirs and a smudge of health left. The enemies on the other hand are way more aggressive and smart so ultimately you get better at the overall combat, especially when you return to Black after. Ryu is also way faster, more nimble, and utterly stylish and chaining combos into devastating UTs feels like godmode. Overall, I still prefer NGB over NGII, but that combat is unrivaled.
>and enjoying Rachel's gameplay
You really enjoyed that slow-ass shit? It is criminal. I never liked using the Hammer as Ryu, with Rachel you are locked to it and moves even slower.
Sekiro doesn't even have a move list as long as your penis.
lol might just do a replay to hear how itagaki treats u for accepting the babby mode.
>You can unlock that costume by beating Very Hard I think
Nah thats the other one from the NES game. best costume in the game imo.
nigga would you please stop acting like a faggot? NGB is one of those games that is not only respected by the hardcore fans of the genre bur also the average casual normies and even ""journos""
>It's a much more fun and interesting game to me than MGR.
That's a low bar to surpass.
not him, but lets not trash other games to boost NGB. I love sekiro just as much as NGB for different reasons. Actually modded sekiro to play as Ryu.
For what it is MGR is pretty solid. The game could've been a lot better, but if you like combo-oriented action games it's fairly good.
Is sigma a real downgrade or is it serviceable as a first playthrough?
>move list
Since do move lists make a game good? It's not like PS2 Shinobi has an extensive move list either, or most 2D action games.
>and even ""journos""
Journos came to respect it, but back then some magazines actually complained how hard it was, not even the Black version, but the vanilla release which was easier than Black.
Very based. Devastation's level design feels like a weaker version of NGB's actually, in that everything is actually connected to each other and you're going to the different points in the city a lot, but it's not as polished and some of the traveling in the city can be a pain.
>MGR:R
Same director as Devastation in Kenji Saito, and the music is a similar high-octane but with no vocals outside of the credits theme sadly.
>Vanquish
The quick-snap aim to let you fire guns in combos and firing while driving in vehicle mode (especially as Sideswipe who has like twice the vehicle speed as Prime/Bee/Jack) will definitely feel like that at times.
Also note that there's actually some Diablo-esque mechanics like random weapon drops and character stats. You'll get used to them, but playing on Commander right away will make you feel a bit weak for the first Chapter.
any ninja gaiden bros looking forward to ghost of tsushima? Sony games tend to have a negative outlook on this board, but sucker punch is making it and their games are always fun and the whole premise of a samurai becoming a ninja to dab on the mongols is too kino for me to not get hyped.
I never had an xbox so I only played Sigma 1,2 and RE. Sigma 1 is good, Sigma 2 improves parts, downgrades other, and RE was just a let-down because of how bad vanilla 3 was
niggers will complain about difficulty no matter what time period we are in. Niggers actually complained that cuphead was too hard. dont pay attention to them.
>Have you played TMNT by Platinum?
Nope, but I hear it's awful. I have no interest in the turtles anyway to try it myself.
Looking forward to NG2 then, especially if it'll help me with the first one like you say.
even DMC1 got criticized for being too hard
game journos were always retarded
Team Ninja just knows how to make incredibly tight and fast combat with literally no filler
This is the reason why Souls can never truly surpass Nioh because From just isn't capable of designing combat on the same level
>in that everything is actually connected to each other and you're going to the different points in the city a lot
This doesn't bother me. In fact, it's kind of a given if you want to let the player have some time in vehicle mode just zipping around. My issue is that a lot of is copy-pasted. Environments look good despite this, but there also isn't always much interesting interactivity in the level design either. It's a lot more dynamic than something like MGR or DMC4-5, though. I really wish the game got a sequel to iron out its quirks. Even if the budget wasn't raised, Devastation laid the groundwork a sequel could easily build upon and improve on.
>any ninja gaiden bros looking forward to ghost of tsushima?
There's no way a AAA Sony title will provide as much challenge as Ninja Gaiden though, while I do think Ghost of Tsushima will be quite impressive due the people at Sucker Punch working behind it, it is also obvious that it's going to be accessible as fuck, SP never makes hard games.
Rachel's hammer is a lot better than Ryu's. Ryu's Hammer barely has five moves, Rachel's has more going for it and she has different movement you have to learn that lets you kind of weave between enemies more. She's also built around using the i-frames on all of her command grabs and big sweeping attacks to avoid getting ganged up on. I like heavy weapons in action games so I enjoyed learning her.
>From just isn't capable of designing combat on the same level
Ahem.
I bet Grimlock with one of the bigass hammers in Devastation is right up your alley.
t. dmc faggot that needs lock on
>For what it is MGR is pretty solid
I'd have to disagree due to its barebones combat system with like 10 moves, an underutilized gimmick and being all about parryspam
Enjoy user. You will get so good at managing numerous hyperaggressive foes that NGB will feel a bit managebale on the harder difficulties. Any other recs you got as far as action games go? Seems like your game taste is quite similar to mine.
black is optimal but sigma 1 is most of it outside a handful of cut puzzles
just watch the black opening about the swords on youtube and know they added more savepoints and nerfed the bosses
also keep in mind a used xbox/360 is cheap and the game on 360 goes for 10$ digital. seems the physical copy is more expensive now
I don't even play Souls but I unironically appreciate the dedication to armoring through attacks and tanking them. I prefer that kind of minmaxing over just maximum attack; super armor done right makes my pp the big pp.
It definitely will not , but I will partake in it anyways. I enjoyed GOW (2018) for what it was and the 2nd to hardest difficulty choice was pretty fun to get through, felt fair unlike the hardest one where enemies were just damage sponges with 10x the attack buff.
Souls combat by nature is more about enemies having a wide arsenal of moves that you have to learn to deal with while slowly chipping away at their health. Not appealing to some understably but I enjoy them just as much as I enjoy cuhhhrazy games. lmao at the webm though
>Sigma 2 improves parts, downgrades other
sigma 2 is an overall downgrade since it removes gore and massively reduced enemy counts because the cell processor is an overcomplicated piece of shit nobody wants to work with
youtube.com
God, that shuriken juggle is awesome.
I've never been able to pull it off.
Any tips?
Honestly I've owned it on PS3 for years but always get filtered by the guy on the horse every time I've tried recently. I need to refuckulate my brain and git gud
Maybe he liked playing with the 3 girls, and the Emma Fang, and since he didn't play vanilla II there was no way to see how hard of a downgrade Sigma 2 was.
based, I need to grab this and the cybertron games.
>and massively reduced enemy counts because the cell processor is an overcomplicated piece of shit nobody wants to work with
In all fairness not even the 360 could handle the enemy count at times, framerate drops out of the ass if this gets too chaotic, that's why the backwards compatiblity program for the Bone X is a blessing, made Ninja Gaiden 2 be an absolute bliss to play.
You'll need to get used copies or pirate if on PC (unless some Steam codes are still in the wild). Activision lost the TF license so they all got pulled. IIRC Devastation's source code got deleted off of Activision's servers as well, so it's lost unless Platinum has a copy of it for some reason.
just spam arrows and flying swallow. Kill one of the casters and leave the other so they dont respawn.
The added one shot kills in master ninja mode changed the whole dynamic of NG2. It made it somewhat more methodical while still being fast paced.
Still prefer NG2 Vanilla though.
If you haven't played them.
I don't care what anyone says the God of War trilogy was an amazing ride and can get quite intense on higher difficulties. I love when games introduce tough enemies as bosses then throw them in droves at you once you've proved you can take one down.
Kratos' chain blades are badass and unique and his combos and moves capitalize heavily on that uniqueness.
Similar to Ninja Gaiden puzzles and platforming break up the combat scenarios.
It's also like the only other game besides Resident Evil 4 to do quick time events correctly.
Obviously there's brutal blood and gore too.
Anyway, please enjoy Transformers it's a good coincidence that you've already bought it.
I meant compared to Sigma 1, not having to spend karma on unlocking movesets was nice since there's no opportunity cost to upgrading weapons like in Sigma 1, and I don't recall de-limbing being in Sigma 1.
That said Ayane was far too dependent on it, so I always got fucked against bosses with her.
From what I remember you flying swallow, but just be careful that you don't get too dependent on it for the rest of the game
One of Sigma's major differences from Black is midair Bow firing. It can really help with certain bosses. Use that to your advantage, and remember it when you get to the military base chapter.
still doesn't really change the fact that the ps3's cell processor was an utterly retarded idea that crippled 3rd party devs
>It's also like the only other game besides Resident Evil 4 to do quick time events correctly.
Asura's Wrath and Wonderful 101 are the kings of QTEs to me.
Never played those two, but wasn't Asura's Wrath only QTEs?
Her dodge is so graceful but her run cycle is so silly. What were they thinking with that?
yeah user, midair bow use is a gamechanger and greatly helped with the tanks, choppers and other bosses. NGB should have had that.
literal bamham combat
yeah I enjoyed the gow games especially 3. Great games to lose yourself in for a few hours and experience the power trip. It gets pretty mashy but I think in that game, I enjoyed it. Have you played Onimusha warlords? Its one of the franchises that flew under my radar back in the ps2 days, but i think they remastered it for the ps4.
Thank u Ninja Anons I will go and fuck that guy up now with this advice.
I think the only bamham bit was the stealth takedown. I am apprehensive but hopeful for the final product.
Asura had combat but it was pretty basic stuff (CyberConnect2 normally make arena fighters so it's only a little more complex than that, just single-player focused), however the QTEs are just really well-timed and placed and when they start breaking the rules of how QTEs normally work they're amazing.
Wonderful 101 doesn't break the mold with them as much but they're clearly designed to fix the issues with Bayonetta's QTEs; you have ample time and you get bonuses for exceeding the bare minimum in terms of currency, plus each one is almost always a cool sequence that wouldn't fit into normal gameplay. On top of that every single QTE has a humorous failstate cutscene, with some references even included in them (in one Pink has a sped-up phone conversation that when slowed is clearly her talking to Sylvia about Viewtiful Joe). Also the very last QTE of the game is legitimately one of my favorite moments in vidya.
i think for the horseman specifically, just tap circle to fire arrows instead of manually aiming through the horseshit control and mid air bow firing doesnt work well with him like 50% of the times so you will run out of arrow. Literally run back and forth on the bridge, landing 2-3 arrow shots, use ninpo, flying swallow you will be good. Conversely, just git gud as the later game will practically require it.
>Have you played Onimusha warlords? Its one of the franchises that flew under my radar back in the ps2 days, but i think they remastered it for the ps4.
The first Onimusha game is pretty much like DMC1, it is very tied to its Resident Evil roots, the combat is very simplistic compared to Ninja Gaiden, not sure people who love Ninja Gaiden would like to play the first Onimusha.
Also I hate the new soundtrack, even if the original composer was outed as a plagiarist the original tracks were far superior to the ones in the remastered version.
i think old school RE design combined with swordplay would probably be enjoyable to me for different reasons than I enjoy NG. I dont think I ever played DmC reboot so I may just get that as well after I beat devastation.
>I don't care what anyone says the God of War trilogy was an amazing ride and can get quite intense on higher difficulties. I love when games introduce tough enemies as bosses then throw them in droves at you once you've proved you can take one down.
Agreed. They're fun games that also are generally good at balancing out the combat with interesting setpiece navigation, platforming, and puzzle-solving. They have their flaws even on their own terms, but they're very good at what they do. On a board that praises fucking MGR of all things, they don't deserve the prejudice.

NG poser general? NG poser general
an inferior experience. Don't fall for Xnigger faggotry.
>Momijifag
Opinion discarted, back to your DOA thread.
>What made it so good?
It was on xbox and kids who only got an xbox from their parents had to put it on a pedestal to not seem jealous of kids that got a ps2 to play dmc and other good games that weren't on xbox.
mechanically it is as deep as god of war, honestly.
t. had both consoles
>literally proves my point
Not even fun anymore, just pathetic.
how many games have 14 year old ayane butt?
Right
fall of the shrine maiden was the peak of the trilogy. Dark butterfly was so disappointing.
Dark butterfly was the second best one and the main scenes were pretty great.
Well what do you suggest we make the poster child of NG threads then? Obviously we use the best game in the series for NG threads.
>Ayane is 14 in Black
What the fuck? The camera zooms right up her buttcrack at times.
You need to sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up kid cause I'm about to give you the creampie of a life time you dumb n word.
It is pretty fun to see a Momijfag seethe though.
The fact that you instantly jump to console wars is so obviously telling that you've never actually played it.
Itagaki loved all of his underage characters.
But it's not even objectively the best version of the first game much less the best in the series. I suggest you don't make NG threads at all because all but 3 people here actually play these games and the OP is 100% not one of them.
>can't even read
>Obviously we use the best game in the series
That would be the first NES game.
it's because i have played it and seen this thread 100 times before that i know with 100% certainty that this is nothing but console wars faggotry, by the same faggots,
>But it's not even objectively the best version of the first game
Your argument for that being?
>i know with 100% certainty that this is nothing but console wars faggotry
So you start with the console wars yourself, you sure are one bright bulb.
So anyone who doesn't follow YOUR opinion is "a poser" and "hasn't played these games"? Are you saying preferring Black means you haven't played NG?
Ok, sure. But Black is the best game in the modern series.
>That would be the first NES game.
How many levels of nostalgia are you in? Ancient Ship of Doom is superior in every single way.
Pretty much all the people on PC that buy nip games came from console and have controllers so this wouldn't be an issue.
youtube.com
Check the archive or something, Jesus Christ i hate these fucking threads ad everyone in them.
i start? read the thread fagtron
No, I'm saying OP is 100%, certified, confirmed poser.
That's fine. We all hate you too, Sigmautist.
14 is 34 and fully developed in anime years.
2>1>3
Ship of doom was deliberately broken
>even easy mode makes changes to boss fights and enemies
Fuck now I gotta rape every whore in this thread.
can i emulate this shit? i aint picking a fucking xbox
The boss fights in this game besides a few are complete garbage
I got so bored of them by the time I got to master, expect for the clone demon and doku 1
Rachel plays a whole lot better in Sigma 2.In fact, The three women in Sigma 2 are actually fun to play.
T.xbox fag.
I play all versions cause its just so damn fun.
lmao this fucking made up list again. This really is a fucking copy pasted thread.
you can emulate sigma 1
I don't see where OP is acting like a "poser." He asked "What made it so good?" The only issue I can see that you have is that you think NGB is "not good" which makes him a "poser", and I'm pretty fucking sure nearly every NG fan would disagree with you.
Yes, but not this version. You can emulate Ninja Gaiden Sigma on the PS3 emulator. It's a fine substitute if you can't play Black.
nah, you hate me, and you're no one.
Holy cope.
You're either pretending to be dumb or a new faggot butting in on shit you know nothing about. Either way you need to be quiet and keep your nose out of what doesn't concern you.
sigma breaks the games intricate balance with the dual katana weapon and ruins the kitetsus moveset
plus shitty rachel missions
Starting console war faggotry to reach bump limit.
Way to go fags, I just wanna read about ninja gaiden and it mechanics. Any version.
xbox emulation is garbage, funnily enough, so you'd have to go with sigma 1 and 2
What makes them garbage? Alma 1 felt like every move you made could be your last. She was insanely difficult and I never found a consistent way to cheese her.
I don't think Sigma 2 emulates yet, does it?
just play the games you faggot
>How many levels of nostalgia are you in?
You're right, user. I'm nostalgic for a game from 1989 but not a game from 1991.
All three games are good, but III can be dickish in a way that's not very fun, whether you're playing the Japanese or American release. II is better than III, but some of the level gimmicks can be annoying and the shadow clone mechanic isn't all that interesting. I think the original strikes the best overall balance.
you are literally one of the highest tier retards i have seen on this board if you think NGB isn't the peak of the franchise
>PS2 Shinobi
fuck this game was so god damn fun and stylish. zipping around wallrunning and shit. the finisher animation was neat. i wish i could have finished the game but i don't have a ps2 anymore
you're better off with youtube videos, I learned alot through joe button, anything here gets derailed when one autist starts propping up one version over the other, and it always tends to be the guy that spams his pics of doa girls
>He hasn't played NG2
Then whey are you looking on Yea Forums? Every single person that is actually good at and plays these games, as in you can see them upload their shit on youtube, is tired of and abhors the kind of faggotry that goes on in this place and on discord, just as i do. Discord being where every single one of these cunts comes from by the way. You want to talk about Ninja Gaiden with people who know fuck all about Ninja Gaiden? Until you get these fucking losers out of here and stop pretending that there's two sides to the problem instead of one you will never be able to talk about Ninja Gaiden in this trash heap of a board. And that's all there is to it. Either that or they release an HD collection so you get more people that actually play these games to drown out this garbage.
You come into NG threads, sperg about Black and attack everyone who likes it, and flip the fuck out and autistically ramble if the OP is even talking about Black.
Why the fuck would anyone here like you?
it's a work in progress for sure
youtu.be
Black is better. 2 has some of the worst bossfights in vidya.
>Discord boogeyman
Based schizo.
It's a very good albeit imperfect game. I wish it got a better sequel to polish its ideas some more. Nightshade/Kunoichi sucks.
Please explain in detail how "you don't know shit about Ninja Gaiden and you're just a poser" if you think NGB is good?
Don't give me shit about "the archive" or give me a non answer like "Well, YOU'RE A POSER BECAUSE YOU'RE A POSER!"
I want to hear your reasoning.
First stop putting words in my mouth like disingenuous mongrel, Secondly, no, check the archive or fuck off. I am almost certain you're OP deflecting though.
The 2D games aren't even close to the same level. Only old hipsters think otherwise.
>sigmafag is a schizo
I only played the original on my xbox way back when, what exactly made Black better?
>t. got filtered by 6-2
they added more stuff
Who didn't?
don't forget balance and gameplay
Didn't they make it easier too? I think they also had the cool space ninja costume available from the start.
Is NG2 worth trying out?
I see niggers are derailing what was an otherwise comfy NG thread so I will add.
I loved finding corpses of dead black spider ninjas that had their lil journals, detailing their struggle and eventual demise to find the dark dragon blade. Added a whole lot to the overarching gameworld and allowed you to see enemy perspective and even symptathize with them to some extent with that young ninja dying and being afraid for his fuckin life.
For all the times those assholes danced and threw incendiary shurikens, I felt bad when the last one gave you the imperial key before his death.
Yes. Though you will need to put up with a lot of BS compared to Ninja Gaiden Black. It's still a great action game.
meh. overall NG2 combat was better but everything else was worse especially the god awful bosses.
>that one death trap save point before the first tentacle boss
I am glad save points don't exist in games anymore after that hell.
no they made it harder but added a game journo difficulty mode
>the zelda-lite exploration, hub world, and dungeons made Ninja Gaiden
Did you even play it?
Yes, it's the best NG game.
based
fuck boomers
It's a difficult section but it's not unmanageable.

yeah i'm thinking old good new(er) bad
kinda off topic but when is otogi gonna get backwards compatibility? NG and otogi are both japanese action xbox kino, sad that otogi is stuck on og xbox.
probably never desu. NG is still a fairly known game. I doubt most have heard of otogi
Backwards Compat updates stopped after E3 last year so that the BC team can focus on getting everything running on the new Xbox. They might resume updates again when the new Xbox is out, but they were really vague on their wording of whether or not they would.
If even Breakdown could make it to BC, I'm sure Otogi could. Popularity isn't a factor in the updates when a ton of niche 360 shmups are in the program.
if otogi 1 and 2 get backwards compat i'll buy an xbone
Actual OG Xbox action kino coming through.
I really want a functional Xbox emulator just so I can play this on PC
that specific one is actually a cutscene if you leave NGB on the title screen for however long. but the fight itself is really close if not better.
What the fuck was his problem?
>What made it so good?
The combination of people at Team Ninja at the time with Itagaki at the helm made it so good. It's called synergy.
>Why has it not been replicated since?
Itagaki left, key senior members left, Hayashi who knows nothing about what makes NG good replaced itagaki; said team synergy went to shit. This happens in any team making any product whether it's entertainment or tech. I can't believe it took 200+ posts to have someone say this. You'll never get the same NG quality again like before because the fucktards at TN and Tecmo don't know what to do.
And forget Itagaki coming back, dude is retired in Italy as a director training developers to get into the field of games. His former team members at Valhalla went elsewhere for work in Japan. Team ninja won't ever be the same and neither will the ninja gaiden games
Why is otogi in every fucking action game thread? It's just a poor and very floaty ass game, action feels like swiping a sword in space. I don't see the appeal besides the art aesthetic
it's fun
the NIOH team can do it. It may not be the same as og NG, but I do believe the NIOH team can do something good with the NG franchise,
You don't understand the question. What makes it fun? What's different about it? I only played a demo
>did you?
there is a hub, you collect items to combine with things, there's an ice, water, and lava dungeon complete with lite-puzzle solving, there's backtracking. What part of "lite" are you people not getting? Do you people think NG Black and 2 are the same, structure wise, too or something?
If the nioh team will do it, it'll be a nioh clone which isn't inherently a bad idea but it won't be a true ng game.
Will we ever see fights on this level again?
Not that NGB and Sekiro are directly comparable but the bosses in Sekiro are pretty much that good.
where is the hubworld though?
reddit moment
Well they would have go study the og games first and be inspired. In Nioh, you get to fight hayabusa so the team clearly respects Ng
What's a reddit moment? I don't browse that website.
Yes.
muh Fromsoftware.
Seriously, that's it. If it were any other dev, it would be completely and utterly forgotten.
I'd give them a shot, if hayashi wasn't at the helm, but he's pretty much the new itagaki at TN now, so there's little chance of that ever happening.
They made the first boss easier.
This. I'm a Fromcuck, so I know this is true. That being said, it's a shame that some of their earlier titles go completely unheralded and forgotten while every Souls game gets sucked off to infinity. Some Armored Core games are top tier. Also, Shadow Tower Abyss is legitimately really good.
Is that Gosh Punch? Why are the attacks doing so little damage?
>while every Souls game gets sucked off to infinity.
Dark Souls 2 and 3 are terrible, though.
>And Ninja Gaiden 2 just cranked that visceral feeling even more to where every encounter is like the crazy 88 scene from Kill Bill.
Damn, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's ever felt that way.
Anyway, a lot of people have already given their answers but one thing I fucking loved about NG was how the combat was more about efficiency and speed, killing the enemy as fast as possible, before they killed you. You could kill enemies rather quickly but they could kill you just as fast, so everything was lightning quick. And bosses were damn near impenetrable.
>the city of tairon is a hub
you backtrack to and from it through out the game. You move to new levels from this location. You return to place all the key pieces you've collected into the star structure looking thing to progress towards the final level.
They still get sucked off. Especially ever since "DaS2 is bad!" became a fedoratip and now the contrarians are saying "DaS2>Bloodborne!" and other retarded shit.
You can also get it by getting to chapter 3, doing some weird loading shenanigans and then you get it.
That's not what a hub is.
Yes and?
>DS3
>terrible
#1 way to spot a retard
Holy based.
Should I skip directly to Sekiro if the only other Souslike I ever played was Dark Souls 1?
I rented this on gamefly in 2011 but couldn't get past the second area at all, the first one took all I had to clear it. I feel terrible for returning it because they ran out of its stock when I checked again like 3 years ago.
fellow japanese 3D action game fans, I recently dug deeper into the more or less obscure games of this variety on the ps2 and am asking for opinions on the folllowing games:
genji
onimusha 2, 3 and 4
tenchu fatal shadows
way of the samurai 1
blood will tell
nightshade aka kunoichi
shadow of rome
sword of something or other, konami game iirc
left out onimusha 1 and tenchu 3 since these have better ports on the xbox iirc
practically none of the worthwhile 360 stg are on bc. I think guwange is the only one
oh yeah, I also wonder about ps2 berserk and ps2 gits
>FOV of 40 or something stupid
>melee combat with realistic camera
>multiple enemies when the combat system breaks down against more than 1 enemy
Seriously whomever designed the room after the final bossfight can get fucked by a cactus. I had to use a walkthrough from some furfag to know how to deal with that raperoom.
>nightshade aka kunoichi
It's not very good. The fundamentals aren't that different from Shinobi, but it's not nearly as good.
tell me what a hub is.
i had a lot of fun with onimusha 2 and bujingai
the one you should call based is itagaki for whoring out his 14 year old daughteru
DeS, DaS, and BB are the only nu-From games worth playing.
you can, yeah. Sekiro is quite different from DaS and other Souls entries. The combat is just fucking god tier, I don't know what else to say. The aesthetics and vistas are all top tier as well. First game I spent 60 bucks on in several years and no regerts.
Way of the Samurai 1 is the best game in the series. Has tons of plot branches and iirc you could draw your sword at any time in the middle of a conversation and start attacking whoever you were talking to.
fun fact: originally nioh was much closer to NG but for some reason they decided against that.
furthermore those dudes know what they're doing, only shame is that they fucked up the balance of nioh1 because they adjusted it based on feedback from retarded shitters
Cool, might check it out soon. I do want to go through all the Soulsborne games eventually.
>for some reason they decided against that.
Pander to Soulstrannies.
if you haven't play shinobido. it's tenchu but better
yea really fucking awesome game that is sadly brought down by everyone having way too fucking much health
Another reason to post this at least once every year and a half. I really need to make Yea Forums my regular habit again.
>I really need to make Yea Forums my regular habit again.
Please don't.
Holy based.
did this meme predate ng2? i can't remember anymore
>I really need to make Yea Forums my regular habit again.
No you really don't.
what about the psp shinobido and the vita shinobido?
Otogi is one of those games I've always posted in threads since like 2009 where people on here wanted to post something nice about Xbox instead of shit on it and pretend it had no games and the PS2 was the only thing that existed on sonygaf central. sigma sucks
haven't tried them yet but I doubt the psp one is good
Vitaboi here, I only played Shinobido for like 30 minutes minutes or so. The core gameplay and controls felt great, but it felt dramatically let down by the MMO style bite sized and piece-meal mission structure. And it seemed overly easy to the point I didn't feel the need to utilize 90% of my options.
But like I said, only played for 30 minutes so I'm probably just being retarded and there's a good chance this gets sorted out.
Oh this thread is still going? Nice to see some ninja anons having a discussion after shitters tried to derail it earlier.
Speaking of old-From, I wish more people talked about the Otogi games. Those games had a really interesting combat system with the floaty jumps and high knockback on attacks with destructable environments.
I legitimately believe that the perfect single-player DBZ game would be in the vein of Otogi.
4 does have the worst mechanics of the series, but presentation-wise, it's peak soul.
So it's like Marvel vs Capcom 1?
Dragon Sword>>>
Eh, I'd rather play MvC1 than 3.
No one has been talking about ninja gaiden for over an hour. Nice "discussion".
first time on Yea Forums?
Fuck off newfag
Based.
Right Ninja Dog mode. I remember hearing that difficulty was scaled down altogether though. I might be getting it confused with Sigma on ps3 though. I think I am.
That fuck was easy compared to Alma.
>alma
Is her difficulty solely based on the garbage camera? Cuz i swear u can literally just run away from her fireball and pillar throws. You dont even have to dodge.
>tfw i played NGvita for the first time 3 years ago and loved it
>bought a classic xbox to play NGB
>holy shit this is even better on the big screen
>see an NG thread on Yea Forums
>hell yeah
>Its DMCfags and NGfags fighting a 15 year old console war
>its sigmafags and blackfags fighting over nothing
>its an itagaki is a hack/genius rehash.
>then veers off whether DOA was a brilliant alternative 3d fighter that got an unfair rap because the girls were whored out, or people saying its shit
>this pattern repeats itself every thread
dmc threads have loads of shitposting as well, but the fact that 4 functioned the same on 360 and ps3 really helps calm things down
the 7th gen console war inflicted some longstanding autism into the souls of everyone involved
a good pc port of black and 2 would really help smooth things over
I think a lot of people would dislike some of the old design decisions of NGB and it would become an autismfest of git gud. But for the sake of preservation i would welcome it.
>dmc threads have loads of shitposting as well
Yeah but for some reason DMC never clicked for me while NGB is one of my favorite games. That doesnt help at all since that riles DMCfags up even though i have no quarrel with them.
>DMC never clicked for me while NGB is one of my favorite games.
That's because you actually like action games.
>since that riles DMCfags up
pretty sure it's just an autistic shitposter fueling franchise wars akin to barry with his KH vs DMC bullshit
it doesn't bother me much, Yea Forums is a very ornery place most of the time
i'd imagine half of it comes from the endless cycle of falseflag bait and the retards that take it
i'd love for a pc port of ngb just for the sake of not having to dig out the 360
i'd honestly take a pc sigma 1
There was some good discussion earlier but all the anons who actually were talkin about the game left the thread and now its just random shit
but you can already emulate sigma 1 so a port is pretty pointless
>i'd honestly take a pc sigma 1
I think most people would. Given how much the game has been ported it's baffling to me that the games haven't been ported to PC. They clearly don't think sales would justify the effort, but I think it would help circulate conversation about the games again in the event that they choose to make a Ninja Gaiden 4 (which they almost certainly will eventually). Metal Gear is another example, especially given how popular MGSV was on PC.
its about accessability. Not everyone is willing to fuck around with settings in a PS3 emulator that probably has some impressions and subpar performance. If people can just go to steam, pay 20 bucks, click a button, and have the controller be automatically recognized and set up, they are happy.
>If people can just go to steam
>Not everyone is willing to fuck around with settings in a PS3 emulator
you don't need to fuck with any of the settings for sigma1. it runs straight out of the box
>some impressions and subpar performance
zero graphical glitches and runs at full speed if you've got a decent pc
t. gtx1060, i3-3100
>and have the controller be automatically recognized and set up
you've gotta be shitting me. most emulators come with preset controller configs
This pretty much. I dont love dmc cuz compared to NG, its slower, clunkier and just doesnt FEEL as smooth as NG along with damage spongy enemies. Nonetheless, i think those games are great at what they do and i totally see their impact. DMCfags will seethe no matter what though.
My favorite action games are NGB and God Hand by far.For some reason i cant get into stuff like DMC and Bayonetta.
DMC feels like a combo simulator where you fight against sandbags.
Bayonetta has good enemies (but boring bosses), but i dont like the concept of dial-up combos.
My PC isn't too bad but RPCS3 doesn't run that well for me. I have an AMD GPU.
gpus barely fucking matter. the most important is having a good cpu
>My favorite action games are NGB and God Hand by far.
This but unironically.
Alma on normal is pretty doable. She gets way more difficult on harder modes compared to other bosses.
I have an i5-7400. AMD just doesn't play well with OpenGL rendering, and last I checked RPCS3's Vulkan rendering wasn't too great.
for me vulkan runs way better
Maybe I'll give it another shot later.
Bayonetta is kind of autistic with its world design and style and the cluster of toolbars on the screen combined with explosions of different colors just turns me off. Dmc is fine but like u said its a combo sim on boring enemies.
nigger the strings in Bayonetta are no different than NGB, if anything it's easier with dodge offset and all strings following a basic pattern that you can pull off without sitting in practice mode memorizing
runs ok on 1070 i7 6700
60 fps 95% of the time.
Cringe.
they dedicate an entire trigger button to camera control
stop playing it like a third person shooter
So im replaying NGII right now and holy shit normal difficulty is babby mode. I dont think i have died more than twice and beat most bosses with 2 or less health items. NGB i died from regular mobs even on normal.
All I remember is it taking a week to do it.
if you ignore him and his many personas, he tends to go away
in NG04 she was more difficult and they toned her down for NGB. There is also no shop available before her room so if you only used one save slot you were fucked if you didnt have items.
Man this was one of my favorite aspects of Black during my first playthrough. Being low on items while approaching what seems clearly like a boss arena was pure anxiety. I had to redo a few saves as a result.
>beat most bosses with 2 or less health items
so you're actually having a hard time?
not only have i not gone away but i am sitting here feeling smug about the thread going nowhere after i stopped posting, just like i knew it would.
ignore this guy, all the shitposting was by my hand
>The way Ryu would yell this sort of reverberating HRAAAAAA when doing a Flying Swallow as his body phased into a ghostly blur and heads started flying
Never got old.
>my brother said the izuna drop yell kind of sounded like link, and now i think of ng whenever playing zelda
Sigma is better than Black
>better graphics and more colorful
>removed gay ass puzzles that 1st graders can solve and replaced em with combat rooms for the real fans of the action gennre
>real time item usage
>fire bow in midair like an actual master ninja
dat animation in II when Ryu cleans the blood off his weapons
>be noob
>get to the city again
>the cops are replaced by those demon cops
>get smacked
>get all 3 of them to low HP
>land and try to do a haze straight slash
>instead of the standing Y move
>as i see ryu do the slow ass windup animation i wonder what they are going to do to my asshole
>the ability connects on all 3 of them as they jump me and slice all 3 heads of them clean off
that shit was so amazing. That and the moment you get the true dragon sword and pop the UT for the first time blew my mind. If Gen6 could produce such graphics and crrazy shit, i was ready for the next gen of brutal violence
B*it.
>load screens in the middle of sections
>ruins the return to hte village section by having a combat encounter, rather than letting you just walk through the burnt out village where all the bodies have been quietly removed.
Not even fucking close
Sigma is fine and dandy, but fucking hell it gives me more screen tear than playing Donkey Kong Country on an HDTV somehow.
The games were beloved well before Souls shit made From popular.
a ps4 remaster would have been nice. I would love to replay it in a more stable performance.
Nightshade is much better than Shinobi
>t. Fromtranny
Kind of but only because of Armored Core. I haven't bothered with anything newer than Dark Souls 1 because I'm not a fan of the formula.
He's right though. A soulstranny wouldn't like Otogi anyways.
>Armored Core
No.
Based. Shinobido 1 and 2 are what I always wanted Tenchu to be.
>Shadow Tower Abyss
Good game but it should have been longer.
Mashallah brother ryu finally wearing his hijab
Left to right:
>Soulless
>S O U L
>Soulless
Lmao
you talking shit about the vita version faggot?
It's the entire game on a fucking handheld.
They even brought the gore back in sigma 2 +
What do you mean, user?
I heard about NG from Yea Forums, i only had a vita and people said it was a decent port. I ordered it, took like 2 weeks, so i called hte company. The guy who took up the phone looked up my order, said "wow ninja gaiden, thats a good game man, dont be discouraged by the first boss, there is a trick to him" and then helped me out.
Later when i got an xbox for NGB i decided to pick up instead of deliviering it since it was closeby, walked into a retro game shop in some dark corner of an industrial terrain to pick up my shit and shit was pretty dope. They instructed some 40 year old guy that was there with his 10 year old kid that hew should blow into the cartridges of his NES games to make them work.
>I heard about NG from Yea Forums
Based underage.
im 25
Tenchu FS, WotS1 and Shinobido are definitely worth your time.
Any other action games like Shinobi and NGB, where the focus is on efficiency rather than combos?
xbox exclusive
halo was an xbox exclusive and got ported. as did plenty of other games. im pretty sure black could get ported if they make work of it. but they wont.
>Play NGS for the first time, not knowing much about NG other than cool ninja action game
>Play first level
>Pretty cool feudal japan, fighting through some temple area thing, kill a bunch of ninjas
>Next level
>Run through a burning village, magic teleporting nigs show up, overall pretty cool
>Next level
>Suddenly on an airship fighting modern military type dudes
What the fuck?\\
God Hand
Yeah, it can be disappointing but once youre fighting tanks and a heli in a military base you stop giving a fuck and realize youre a fucking ninja using anti tank arrows and a bow.
The airship levels soundtrack is pretty cool and coming from the fact that ryu just came from back the and is about to go on some old school revenge plot had me on autistic levels of hyped and slaughtering everyone including the boss was just pure ludo my nigga.
It's not that i'm mad really it just came out of nowhere. Like did I miss some kind of cutscene that said "hey, I know you're about fight some levels that LOOK like feudal japan but actually it's modern day"
the original arcade game was like this too
I feel u. The game’s atmosphere just shifts so carelessly, u go from japan to an airship to a middle eastern looking town to an Egyptian tomb and to fuckin south america. I ironically love it.
>They even brought the gore back in sigma 2 +
Not on the same level, since the Vita has obviously less power than a home console, and it has as few enemies on screen as ever, saying Sigma 2 Plus is "It's the entire game on a fucking handheld." is a blatant lie
LORD VALDOMERO
I'm playing it for this time and I kind of regret choosing normal. Enemies don't do much damage. I did die once against the electric fish boss thing because I didn't understand what to do but I had the revive item so whatever. I ended up spamming arrows and magic to kill it.
I like the how there are 50 enemies on screen at any time but I keep using the same button combinations because I can't remember all the different moves and I can't do the arrow moves consistently. It's fun though.
Wait til you get to 2. Since they got rid of the interconnected world design of Vigoor, it's just became a crazy globe-trotting adventure and you get to see so many different levels with very little explanation other than: a bad demon is there
It has cyberpunk Tokyo, feudal ninja village, New York, Venice, Russia, another military airship, and hell.
Itagaki doesn't really give a shit about story or logic and just wants to make an entertaining action game
The Arcade game and NES games were exactly like that, Ryu goes from battling in a urban area, to a military area, to the underworld, with little rhyme, Ninja Gaiden was aways about flashing you with different locations, it doesn't care about making its world cohesive, it only has to be "cool", like Sonic games and its world in the Genesis titles had stages so different from each other they might as well be different worlds.
Fucking Izuna drop is amazing. I still look for it in other games/shows to this day.
You can do it in nioh
No PC ports, so nobody cares.
Fuck really? I gotta actually play that now. I tried learning Vega in street fighter because I saw in his move list you can Izuna drop with him, but the setup is way to fucking hard for a scrub like me. I think it was Cap vs SNK 2000 I tried learning.
The NES trilogy is better
I don't think Black is that good. I enjoyed it a lot, but I find myself going back to ng2 and not black. Combat is just that much better in 2 and it's way more fun to replay.
youtube.com
Though its not as interesting in DOA or NG but its inclusion is beautiful. You also get to fight Jin Hayabusa, who is basically Ryu’s ancestor but sounds the same and has the same moves. Its kino
Based. Everything else in NGII is worse except combat. Bosses like Volf, Genshin and Rasetsu and the fire guy are pretty good but others are really bad, laughable even.
I have a RX 580, it runs prefectly fine with Vulkan.
>but i dont like the concept of dial-up combos.
But NG is even worse about dial-up combos than Bayo
Underworld Drop was sick as fuck too
I think all the Greater Fiends and Genshin were all bretty gud
>I don't think Black is that good
>I enjoyed it a lot
Based retard.
Can you read the rest of the sentence? I'm saying it's good but for me ng2 is better.
B*it.
>were all bretty gud
Elizebeth is pretty brain dead in vanilla NGII, if there's one thing Sigma 2 did right was to make the bosses a bit more threatening.
It's not though? Bayonetta has stuff like dodge offset cancelling and plus plenty of actions that are free from dial-a-combo, meaning you have much more combo freedom. In NG, you're locked into dial-a-combo aside from a handful of moves and a lot of them don't even really combo.
>dial-up combos
That's a huge meme.
I will never understand people who can't enjoy dodge offset in bayonetta.
Because we've played DMC.
falseflaggers like you make me miss barry
is this webm supposed to be impressive
Dodge offset like most platinum games mechanics are gimmicks to make up for shallow gameplay. Only good mechanic that platinum has made is MGR parry n zandatsu.
Yes, marvel at the doddling harmless punching bags while he abuses enemy step. This is apparently what action games are all about. who cares about engaging and tough enemies, it's all about "le player expression xD"
>Offset and most Platinum mechanics are gimmicks
>Attacking towards an enemy nullifying their attack and lining up a strike to do a cool cutscene that kills an enemy and heals you isn't
I like Revengeance plenty and think Bayo is somewhat overrated but you're full of shit. Also literally every single Platinum game after Bayo has offset, even MGR on Offensive Defense.
This.
The idea of Itsuno-era DMC is that once you master the tools you're given you can literally dance on enemies and do way more than necessary to get the job done. It's meant to represent how Dante is far above 95% of enemies he faces (I'm pretty sure Vergil & Urizen and maybe Nero are the only people he's had trouble with) so he intentionally does flashy shit to keep himself engaged while he fights demons.
It's not objectively better than other action games but it's successful at what it wants to do.
Bayonetta has parrying. You would know that if you played it.
>literally
>objectively
Further proof that DMC fans are tr*nnies.
I think you're looking a bit too much into that, especially trying to contextualize it from Dante's point of view. Itsuno literally just took Jump Cancelling from DMC1 (Shotgun Jumping) and applied to everything. The way Itsuno does DMC is front loading player offense while giving virtually nothing to enemies. I don't necessarily have a problem with this type of approach to action game development but if the price to pay for this is, for the most part, docile enemies I'd rather have my fun with S Ranking and then move on. I enjoy playing Devil May Cry but I'm not the type of person to shit there hours on end doing the same "combo" over and over until muscle memory kicks in.
>MGR parry n zandatsu
yep you're baiting
Hello, based department?
Why did Tecmo kick out Itagaki out anyway
DMCfags ruined this thread
>responding to bait this obvious
shiggy
Sexual harassment. Not fake allegations or overblowing stuff, but shit that was bad enough that even the Japanese thought it was too much. He never got into legal trouble because the legal system is such that if the women pursued it it would never have gone anywhere and they would lose a lot of money on it.
The new CEO fabricated a story about sexual harrassment. He was forced to resign later anyways after the company union spoke out against him withholding salaries or bonuses from employees.
The fun thing about NG is enemies are very aggressive. It's hard to find an action game without enemies being literally running punch bags.
Yes sir, I'd to order an extra large based.
>Not fake allegations
i may have some bad news for you, user
>Sexual harassment. Not fake allegations or overblowing stuff,
Literally dropped as soon as Itagaki was let go, so it was fake, no actual victim will just drop charges if they were truly abused.
he was supposed to get a bonus for completing doa 4 but tecmo bailed and said "if you don't like it, quit". he ended up making it a lawsuit and got fired because of it, but quit near the same time so whatever
Bayonetta, Shinobi, God Hand, W101, Maximo off the top of my head all had enemies that were no slouch. Although in Maximo's case it was more the classic gameplay style than the AI.
>Literally
Tranny spotted.
The Japanese legal system is such that if they pursued the charges they would probably let Itagaki go anyway while saying "Should've said no" or something like that.
Don't talk about the japanese legal system out of second-hand information you heard through the internet.
if ninja gaiden ever came to pc I hope it'll get enemy control mods
enemies have a surprising amount of moves compared to other action games where its just:
>face the player
>slowly walk towards
>do your 1 attack and then die
Any other boomers remember IberianWarrior?
Tecmo itself was throwing Itagaki out to fend for himself against the alleged victim, if that shit was real Tecmo would have kneeled down in order to save save their public image.
What are you a cop? I read on the internet that Japanese courts and police are hideously corrupt and I completely believe that. It's the Japanese we're talking about, come on.
>if ninja gaiden ever came to pc
It's not going to, so you don't have to worry.
It will come when we can emulate the Xbone.
You can attain near nirvana by emulating Sigma on RPCS3. I know the NGB > Sigma, but it's the best we've got for now. CxBx Reloaded was making some progress recently, so here's hoping we eventually get NGB on PC through emulation.
I'd rather wait and buy an Xbone to play it without remembering any of the layouts.
>Sigma
It's not THAT bad. You just have to suffer through the tacked on Rachel levels and it is otherwise pretty close to the genuine article.
>when we can emulate the xbone
Is the ninja gaiden game for the wiiu any good? I just started emulating with cemu and it showed up on a site with different game keys
>NG3
It's ballsack poopoostains.
>It's not THAT bad.
It is.
I don't remember that one. Izuna drop carried me the entire game because you lift an enemy into the air and slash him a few times, then when you come down with him you create a shockwave that damages all the other demons that have congregated underneath you. Rinse and repeat until everything is dead.
>NG3 is shi-
You fight Hyabusa in Nioh? Fucking sweet! or am I confused?
>Izuna drop carried me the entire game
Getting real sick of this meme.
ng3 is really really awful but ng3re at least tries to fix what it can
the story is still really bad though, and they tried to fix that too
the gore is ok
it has less qte's
the weapon balance is shit
3RE is better than 3
not sure if it's better than dragon sword
okay
what other options do i have if i want to play some ninja gaiden on the pc? I "lost" my copy of black and these threads popping up out of the wild make me want to ninja around a bit
Is this Black? I don't remember getting a staff in the original, and I havn't seen this particular .gif in years! Also I think that suit wasn't in the first version. But yeah user, i'm bad at vidya, sorry to disappoint. I did beat it though. I was 13 maybe.
you can emulate sigma 1 which runs perfectly on medium hardware.
emulate the shitty ps3 sigma versions or wait for xbox emulation to get better
keep in mind a used og xbox is like $30 though
>RPCS3
nvm, some user said ps3 is the way to go
why 1 and not 2? just curious
>why 1 and not 2?
because sigma 2 is shit
>TFW playing NGB in native 4K at 60FPS
Feels good.
fine, ill roll with that
3RE is worth a playthrough. I had a lot of fun in the trials that were unlocked after the campaign.
sigma 2 is a mess
Honest to god where can you even play these games anymore? Why hasn’t the series escaped their imprisonment on the original Xbox?
Okay, now where do i download ps3 games
R*ddit has deleted all piracy links
>why not sigma 2?
youtube.com
gay baby version
>Honest to god where can you even play these games anymore?
Current gen consoles.
Alright, someone fucking tell me, a zoomer, if these games are connected to the NES trilogy at all.
I played 'em two years ago and always wanted to know if the reboots are similar plotwise.
nblog
right thanks, didnt thought about it because it doesnt have wiiu games
You mean current gen console.... The Xbone.... the least desirable console ever made.
well its got ngb/ng2 in 4k 60 fps, and normie games
sorry fren but what am i seeing here?
I have no problems with 2 being all about combat. One of the most fun games I've played along with bayo 1 and sekiro.
youtube.com
>the cluster of toolbars on the screen combined with explosions of different colors just turns me off
Same. I just can't into Bayo.
>Best version of multiplats on a console
The base xbox one unironically runs red dead 2 at 720p 30fps.
>what made it so good?
Because you didn't play REAL action games.
youtube.com
As opposed to ironically running it?
well xbox one x is the one in the picture so okay?
Based based based based.
merely pretending to run it
lol
go to back to bed grandpa
>expect this post to be a shitty falseflag trying to start shit by posting DMC or Souls to start an argument
>It's actually a patrician Zanposter
You've restored my faith for a while longer.
Sure in some headcanon, Ryu went out n about adventuring like he usually does
ORE WA SUPHA URULTRHA SEKUSHEE HIIIEEEROOOO
Literal who
ZOOM ZOOM
The enemies on screen are the same number to the ps3.
I've played both.
It's only visuals that are toned down. Like rain, gore, and background effects.
>Hironobu motherfucking Kageyama on the intro
>English version somehow manages an intro just as good
RISING ZAAAAAAAAAN
SAMURAI GUNMAN
Sorry pal, but the Japanese one is way SUPAH ULRUTRAH SUEKSHEEE
motherfucker so badass that killed the whole thread.
Devastation's enemies can be pretty brutal on higher difficulties as well. They don't take turns and will just gang up on you, unlike MGR's for example.
>Had a system similar to style ranks in 1999, two years before DMC released
>One of the ranks is "Bitchin'!"
BTFO
Yeah, Devastation notoriously doesn't lower enemy aggression when they're not in view of the camera unlike most games of its type. This makes the Challenges where you face multiple bosses at once insane tests of endurance. Challenge 02 on Magnus or Prime Difficulty separates the boys from the men, and the one where you fight Optimus & Megatron at the same time separates the men from the chads. Making boss versions of all the Autobots just for the side mode is one of the coolest things about the game honestly.
Games were different back then...
I've done the Constructicon one and Optimus + Megatron ones on Magnus a handful of times, wouldn't be surprised if they took me like 50 attempts each.
This thread just motivated me to play through Devastation's first chapter on Magnus, where before I'd only done so on Commander. Every encounter is different, it's nuts.
Also got me a nice set of Devy's drills that literally do over 9000 damage and absolutely shred enemy health bars now.
Good on you two. I don't think I'll ever work up the courage or patience to play that game again on the highest difficulty. The challenges even on Normal were nuts. I don't grasp the game's mechanics enough to tackle 2~3 bosses at once.
But I only ever did beat the game just using Optimus so I owe myself another play through one of these days.
I haven't even touched that insane endurance challenge where you face basically every enemy in the game in succession yet, the one that takes like half an hour to complete on a good run.
I honestly just keep dodging and trying to land a few hits here and there until I get an opening, then I try to get one string off into a vehicle attack, shoot them in the face to get another vehicle attack off, and land a couple more hits until they start fighting back again. Weapons with the lvl 5 attack speed bonus stat and the Still Safe skill really help.
>*blocks your path*
Imagine having enemies and bosses you'll never even see on first playthrough. NG:B did the difficulty settings right.
Every action game does this.
The thing is that beating Commander (the hardest default difficulty) increases your level cap and automatically adds any EXP you gained above the initial cap to your characters, while unlocking Magnus. Then when you beat Magnus you unlock the final level cap alongside Prime. The difficulties are designed around the level cap you have when you unlock them, so while Magnus can be a challenge, it becomes pretty simple 80% of the time once you're maxed out, and even the hardest stuff on Magnus is only mid-tier for Prime. Weapon drops also get better on higher difficulties; you can only get SS starting on Magnus and it's super rare, slightly less so on Prime. If you go back to Warrior/Commander even if you just unlocked Magnus then you'll breeze through with your high stats and such, and then playing Magnus you'll start getting higher-rarity weapons.
Also the 5 characters play super different from one another and Optimus was designed to be really easy to learn because he's 2nd best in every stat and can use every weapon type, plus his cooldown move and super are both big AoEs.
Not really. There's a good amount that drop endgame enemies early on higher difficulties but not many actively gatekeep some enemy types to higher difficulties because given how most people play games they won't even see those assets. Having things like Fiend Ryus only appear above the base difficulty is a very Itagaki thing to do, doubly so is some of their positions within the game, as if put there to fuck with you when you thought you were safe. I think the last one being at the bottom of the huge staircase that connects the final area to the city where on your first playthrough you can just run through to restock and upgrade and such is a clear example.
Those cat girls on Hard were hot.
Post more Rachel.
Nice thread.
Playing devastation right now and getting filtered by devastator on commander difficulty.
i really liked it when the tentacle monster covered rachel with his slime
When he does the big ground slam that sends up a chunk of earth, use that to get up high and smack him in the face for extra damage.
Also dodge dodge dodge.
Wait for him to punch the mound up and jump to the top so you can wail on him if you want to go that route, also his head is really big so headshots are somewhat easy if you use guns. Besides that just learn the timings for his attacks and use Focus to get your hits in.
