That's what makes the DLC so weird. Having them on the same side when they never were in the main game feels wrong. Hilda would never join Edelgard but was quick to raise her axe against her. And she was also one of the only students to be suspicious of Monica and Edelgard's friendship as well. She didn't trust her at all.

If anything I think more students should have been completely locked out of CF due to how it messes with their characters so much, especially the blue lions. The only characters that make sense to go CF is Mercedes (to see her brother).

True, CF shouldn't have let you recruit most of the characters. It is a bit of a failing for that route, especially since it's just the evil route and not a real route. It's also definitely not the main route since it's the shortest and gives you the least info about the setting and plot.

Hilda is unrecruitable by Black Eagles until you go Church route. She definitely has something against her.

Recruiting Felix makes sense on any route that isn't CF. Same for Ingrid and Sylvain. Really nobody in BL should have been recruitable on CF except maybe Annette but even that's a stretch.

Hilda already knew there was something off about Edelgard and didn't want anything to do with her, her suspicions ended up being correct. Since you're clearly not someone who did the GD route through her supports it's shown that she's one of the most perceptive people at the academy if not the most perceptive, she just doesn't speak up about it.

Good thing Edelgard is far more popular than that low iq ape Hilda.

Felix is fine for CF, it's just a bit misguided but its a path Felix wants.

Mercedes is probably the only one who can manipulate her. Seteth gets the upper hand for a bit but she figures him out on their B support.

I really don't think Sylvain joining Edelgard is that wild, considering his views on crests. There's flimsy arguments for Felix taking his i'm mad about boars shit too far, but yeah, definitely a stretch.
I love Edelgard and Ingrid both, but Ingrid joining on CF is utter nonsense.

Mercedes can only really manipulate her because she's the type of girl that people can't really say "no" to. Same with how she does all of Marianne's work for her, because she's not the type to actually go against what people want if pressed.

To be fair, hybrid classes in FE are usually junk. They might sound fun on paper, but they are worthless since character will always excel in one thing more over the other. Take for example Malig Knight. Wyvern Rider who uses axe and magic sounds neat on paper, but it sucked in the game since at the end of the day you can't have proper growths for this class to actually work since magic and melee requiring strength don't mix well.

I highly suspect that initially there were no class restrictions on magic. Some classes were just better at it than others, and you still needed to level up the magic skills to learn new spells.

Divine Dragons are nearly always forces of good in FE, with only degenerated ones having ever been a problem. They are benefactors of humanity in FE1/11, FE2/FE15(though the bad guy is a degenerated one), FE3/12, FE4(and by extension FE5), FE6 and 7(relatively small roles), FE8, FE13...
So basically every game they were in.
