The emotion system actually ruined the game, there's no depth to the sims personality. You could have 8 sims in one house all with different personalities, but as soon as one sim is happy, every sim is happy.

Yep, 3 Traits just ain't enough to really make a personality, especially when some feel like they basically overlap and emotions are way too easy to manipulate, it is alos honestly a bit of a mess to navigate interaction menues at time because they have gotten so fucking bloated with "cute" interactions that have no substance, which basically is counter intuitive to what the emotion system was supposed to do, namely put personal spins on "standard" interactions so the menu and interactions could be a bit more hands off.

Another issue is just that it is way too easy and too gungho with giving you OP stuff and Ambitions are all over the place, like the Beach-Life ambition is insanely easy to finish off early (Though you can screw yourself out of it) and basically gives a incredibly powerful perk (Immunity against Tense, which means you can basically ignore Fun without direct negative repercussions), Strangerville Mystery takes more effort and has the reward basically end up being more annoying then helpful, Master Vampire fucking resets the "Survive 20 Days" count if you travel (The "trick" is realizing you can just Hibernate for 20 days popping out for bills and/or Work) Fuck, the latest one added TWO ambitions, but guess what? They overlap so hard that if you finished one you can probably finish the other in the same day.

My favourite Neighborhood in 4 is Strangerville though because the environment is nice and works nicely when you run a curated NO TOWNIES ALLOWED set-up giving a smalltown vibe over-all, just gotta fix some of the standard houses up.

Sims 4 is basically all about the Character Designs and building houses (and "houses") that look good, but aren't necessarily functional (A LOT of shit that is just purely visual). All facade, no substance, though some mods certainly try to push it in.

I just got it setup fully today but I was under the impression the various mods like meaningful story and that one mod that actually gives every sim a "personality" fix this very issue. I know my sim got the lover and pure personality that makes my sim easy to fuck with and lie to and someone like Tifa got the hero personality which makes them act heroic and look down on others for doing coward shit. Unless that mod is just more fluff anyways

also anyone got any decent links for some more IP based outfits/sim trays cause I'm just looking to fill in as many characters as possible and just let it go wild like in Sims 3

it replaces woohoo with actual sex, it flows pretty well if you play with the settings and lower the rate of autonomous sex, the default settings is too much random sex between sims.

i played vanilla with all expansions for a while and feel like i need mods to enjoy the game at this point

That's wicked whims, IIRC it works by looking for certain Trait combinations and assigns based on that, Hero is Fit+Good IIRC, those two are actually exactly the ones i meant with "Some mods certainly try to push it in".

Default also has the sex last for fucking ever, i also found it necessary to basically remove all the "floor" interactions to avoid Sims doing it in utterly retarded places and potentially blocking doors, so yeah, gotta fix up the setting quite a bit, but ain't that just The Sims in a nutshell? 100 Hours tinkering with settings, building and sim creations to every 1 hour of "gameplay".

Honestly the only thing that keeps 4 "competitive" with 3 is the fucking memory leakage the latter has basically making it near unplayable without extensive changes and maintainence. 3 is also kinda shit on the "difficulty" though, but it actually feels more feasible to have a shitty family.

And it fails at both. Character design is severely limited without mods, and even with mods it's still very lacking. And the same thing goes for building. The plots are tiny, and the worlds have like 3 of them.

Aside from graphics, 4 is a direct downgrade from 3 at everything.

I don't normally play sims, but sims 4 was really fun because of the mods.

I made a small brothel and whored out random avatar characters like Korra and Asami and gave the brothel a fire nation look. With the profits, i made more fire nation themed buildings around town and expanded the brothel even more. The whole town is basically funded by Korra's vagina.
