Imagine a fighting game where every stage in the game is a giant pit of molasses. That's what it felt like. The game also operated on some silly gimmick where you had to throw your opponent into certain parts of the arena for big damage, because the stage would randomly explode in tact with the background music

yeah that's what happened. def jam was handed to EA Chicago instead of just working with aki for another entry so EAC built it in a new engine that resembled nothing of vendetta and FFNY. Icons did so poorly that the chicago studio shut down the same year the game released.

I've played it emulated on a hacked WiiU's virtual Wii with no issues, but that has the benefit of running Gamecube games natively.
