Ferdinand is really versatile. Ferdinand actually has nearly the same growths as Sylvain or Hilda but people like to pretend he's shit for some reason. Make him a dancer for dodge tank shenanigans, and so that you'll have a dancer that can stay on the frontlines without fear of getting assraped in the enemy phase. Keep him off of a horse so he doesn't get speedfucked. Train him in lances for Swift Strikes, which is FREE DOUBLES and two chances to proc his crest and dodge counterattacks.

Putting him in heavy armour is a bit of a waste but it's ok. Defenses and growths are basically the same as Edelgard's, so he's serviceable, but Raphael or Lorenz with Nosferatu are better for soaking hits in enemy phase. Dabble in Heavy Armour for his Seal Speed budding talent and to get him Armoured Knight certification for the sick base defense boost.

Even if you don't go Dancer you still want his sword high enough for swordmaster to put his 50% spd growth into overdrive

The other guy is obviously a shitposter but he does have a point. Just because Edelgard does not remember Dimitri or the dagger is not sufficient to conclude that the experiments cause memory loss. It is a possibility, but not something we can say is more likely than not to be the case. For example we can reasonably assert the experiments cause hair color change because we can see it on Lysithea and she herself says it's what happened. Which actually makes it odd that Dimitri doesn't ever bring up Edelgard's hair color but Lysithea does, so Dimitri's account is far from unquestionable.

If Lysithea or the slithers were to say something to that effect, we could be more confident with the claim. Until then however, the easier explanation seems to be that Dimitri just was not that memorable of a person in Edelgard's life so she does not remember him.

I can only speak from experience but ive played bl three times. Dedue in all of them was underleveled, has bad bases and just had no hope of catching up to gilbert who outdamages him and takes damage better. Each time my dedue was a different class. First was warrior and he just became dead weight that got doubled by everything and couldnt survive most enemies since he got one rounded by everything. Then i tried fortress knight but he did no damage and while he could tank decent so can gilbert but gilbert can easily get great knight so he doesnt get left in the dust. Then i tried grapplerand he just lacked the damage and speed to kill anything. Dedue just gets shafted in timeskip and unless you wanna grind him some levels or spam statboosters on him hes just so weak compared to the rest of your team

Weird, I see people often say Gilbert is the single worst unit in the game. In all fairness both of them get fucked hard by endgame since maps become swarmed in mages. Still, as a physical tank I feel Dedue far exceeds Gilbert, he benefits greatly in warrior and war master while nothing can save Gilbert's trash stats, he basically can't do anything but be a fortress knight running behind everyone else.

Yeah Dedue has nat 50% growths in str and def so if he sucks then that's just bad rng. He and Raphael can both be player phase deleters with a pair of knucks equipped so they still have plenty of utility even on maddening, though that's pretty much all they have going for them past the timeskip

I'm doing my run fresh. I saved that one until I had some decent fliers, which ended up close to the last available month. Ones like Ashe/Catherine paralogue have higher recommended level but I feel are easier due to that kinda crap.

He doesn't have bad growths, it's getting level scaled to around 30 with Fortress Knight growth scaling. This will fuck anyone up.
His base SPD is 30 which isn't irredeemable but getting a -10 hit to growths lower than 40 is huge.

I like him a lot, he has a nice backstory and relation to plenty of other characters and it's nice to see how he develops over the course of the game. Goes from the church back to the kingdom just because they really need him, remains repentant and is a great advisor, and eventually ends up actually learning to enjoy life again as things begin to look up.

He's got all the positives of any other Jagen but with an actual character arc, backstory, and character relations with plenty of supports.

I haven't grinded much so I'm at the deadline and only my Byleth and Dimitri are able to reclass into advance classes now. I was able to cheese a few paralogues with pegasus Ingrid and Bernie plus stride but any paralogue where you're suppose to do more then just kill the boss feels impossible even now. I'm trying out the Ingrid/Dorothea paralogue now and not sure exactly how much time I want to put into this, I feel bad missing Felix's relic this run but fuck, that shit is just impossible it feels.

To be honest, I used both and they were both fine. Mages were a problem but both of them could at least handle a mage better than any of my mages could handle a brave-sword mortal savant running up on them due to big HP.

Becoming the worst advanced class isn't really a major positive. Meanwhile units like Dedue and Raphael can become war masters, an actually good class, and tank shit much better.

You might want to do as many paralogues and battles you can fit within reason even if you can't get the best rewards. I'm only right before the chapter twelve mission but the reunion map looks like a nightmare if your house units are lagging behind.

I decided to be a faggot and focus on all my house units this run actually, Ashe and Sylvain were kind of shit so I built them to be Wyvern riders. I think I'll be able to get everyone into their desired advanced class by the timeskip. It's kind of shame there's no good advanced class for pegsus riders to transition too but whatever, even as a intermediate class its still good enough to use until level 30.

Bow knight has garbage growths but is one of the best classes in the game, I suggest waiting to promote until the last few chapters. If you do it around the mid game it can come to fuck her growths down the line.

I put him into Hero and he's mental, trying to get him into War Master but he's already pulled his weight as Hero alone, using Axes, Fists and Swords.

It's not a huge gimp but it's there. Cavalier and Paladin give -10% speed growth, which a lot of people dislike. Bow knight has basically no growth bonuses.
If you care about maximizing their growths, you want to make them non-mounted units as they develop, then save the mounted units for late game when growths are less important.
Realistically mounted classes only lose a few points of speed so it's not terrible to leave them like that, but flying classes have no such penalties and are just better at everything for no good reason.

What's the point of hero compared to swordmaster?
I know wyvern lord is a meme but I was thinking of raising his flying so he can get avoid stance, then capping him as a paladin with high lances so he can meme it up with the asshole spear.

It's funny since they clearly gave the units they intended to be cavaliers higher spd growths to compensate but that just means they're way better off not getting on a horse in the first place. Ironically heavyset clunky fuckers like Dedue and Raphael who'll break the steed's back from their sheer weight are the ones least impacted by saddling up but Raph has no flying weakness so even that's pointless

A tiny bit more HP at the cost of lower speed, but the reason I did it was the Axe proficiency boost to help get into Warmaster later.

I prefer Defiant str to Astra as mastery bonuses too.
