Except you can grind for tons of hours and have your equipment upgrades fail and end up downgrading the gear or just destroying it if it's an accessory. Meanwhile if someone pays money they can actually minimize or outright avoid the drawbacks that come from attempting to upgrade gear.

What got censored?

Not as much as is stated but it is encouraged for sure. You can grind without doing the cash shop game, but will be lengthy grinding. Character action combat and design is decent at least, and it is one of the truer open world MMOs. Not so dungeon heavy however, but they do kinda exist.

bdo easily, i remember playing RO for about 8 years (started in 2004 i believe) and it's not as grindy as bdo, endgame is literally grinding like a true autist all day everyday and breaking all your equipment trying to upgrade it a little bit

It's basically pay to not grind. I consider it pay to win but not everyone seems to think the same.

I haven't bought shit yet, and don't intend to, unless I win a lottery or some shit. you can buy all pearl items on the auction if you have the patience. always have money for VPs and several open orders for that and costumes, and you're set. you'll eventually get it.

It's the grindiest shit ever. You have to play with multiple alt characters and spend thousands of hours idling, then on top of that there's a bunch of items on the cash shop that are basically mandatory if you want to be competent.

That being said, do not get drawn into this game. The game pretty much forces you to be online 24/7 and the RNG is terrible in it, people have lost months of work in seconds when their gear blows up. You'll also be lagging far far behind anyone who has been playing for a long time.

I wasted 18 months of my life on this game, do not do the same.

its a long boring grind and I couldn't figure out what was at the end of the long grind besides pvp so I dropped it

Some items, mostly the 'pets', are basically essential, and you won't get the number you need to really perform at the level of everyone else unless you fork over that money.

The pets are the only thing I'd ever consider truly 'essential' and they go for $8-11 a head and you can get five out at a time. They provide an auto-loot function that procs every X seconds and you'll only get one free from rookie attendance, maybe other events too. The pets have a stupid upgrading system where you can sacrifice for a chance at upgrading them but just having the five is good at all, although they can entail other effects which is why the Hedgehog found in limited time bundles is considered one of the best. Anything else other than weight/inventory is probably a waste.

For everything else though, there are a ton of components in the game that the devs monetized for sure and a lot of it does remind me a lot of mobile games, except that a lot of the microtransactions really don't come cheap. Despite being the selling point of the game, the stellar MMO combat it has is completely slept on and wasted on mobs dumber than musou mooks and world bosses that aren't that gear intensive, unless you're doing PvP which is very likely off-limits until you can hit softcap AP. The game doesn't even feel that alive, a ton of people are AFK doing things so they can get the silver to upgrade their shit. I don't know what it is with Korean MMOs but they just make really shitty enhancement systems on purpose, I recall SCO/AO having something as cancerous too.

Also, the NA/EU servers were meant to take a direction that had slower progression and more emphasis on harder PvE content while being a B2P instead of F2P w/ P2W, but now it's pretty much the same while you still have to 'buy' the game.

4 pets that you get for free are enough, stop making a fuss over such non-essential feature. sure, it's boring to pick it up every time, but newbies don't go farming anywhere else but sausans or nagas, and their 2 pets (at that time) will suffice.

There are cash shop pets that do more than just picking up loot, there are pets that also give you buffs to EXP far above what you get for free.

Ive been treating the game so far like a dynasty warriors mmo and its been fun. Never really cared about the end game so havent spent any money.

Last I checked there's only two at the moment with the Kuku and Gosphy.

she's pvp, dude. also, you can use her pve, works good on nagas and ruins, but you need to know how to play. no class is truly good if the player is shit. also, your gs should always be at least a hundred above what the mobs around you are so you can grind without thinking, and maintain other players. why is it so hard to spend time upgrading your character and then going to grind? isn't that logical thing to do?

yea obviously shes pvp I'm just frustrating that when theres finally a good spear class in an mmo is relegated to pvp. gs/skill isn't the problem its just her kit is so single target and small hitboxes that theres no point in grinding with her so i just slide around on my witch rolling around pila ku. But it's been months since I've played the game so maybe its a bit better
