>"Video games are art"
"Video games are art"
>OP is a fag
Why not?
Not him but art doesn't exist.
>he thinks an interactive medium (that is, a game dressed up as art) which requires viewer input via a series of button presses in order to 'win' will ever, EVER, be superior to other mediums which facilitates reverie, contemplation, reflection and enlightenment
fuck off with your children's toys faggot
"art" isn't restricted to just a drawing or sculpture, it's the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
someone can master anything and their skill would fall within the broadest definition of art. for example, OP has mastered the art of sucking cock and shall henceforth be referred to as Dicasso
okay but expand on the statement
if you provide no evidence all i have to say is "you're wrong"
checkmate retard
This is what we mean when we say games aren't art. They absolutely can be according to the abstract definition, but to compare video games to genuine landmark pieces of literature and visual expression is insanity. There is not a single video game in existence that has rivaled any academic impact or analysis as the greatest pieces of cinema, because interactivity is inherently resistant to artistic expression.
>to the abstract definition
the funny thing is all these made up qualifiers you use to determine what is or isn't art tells me that you are actually creating the abstract
all you've done is say there's good and bad art and bad art isn't art
with all those words lmao
pseud
>art means cinematic experiences
Why should it be art?
Art only attracts the true dregs of society, leeches with no useful skills that pretend to be intellectuals to mask their worthlessness and vapidity.
Videogames aren't art, videogames are a science.
by definition games are literally art, sure, but i wouldn't want them to be classified as art because that means that they are qualified to be politically charged and motivated because art and politics have a symbiotic relationship. If you think video games are art but you hate when Kotaku and Polygon articles are socially and politically discussing video games, then you're a humongous hypocrite
apparently anything is art if you want it to be
I guess.
i'll call this post
"The Kettle Accuses the Pot"
this one is known as "Not THOSE Politics"
>he thinks food (that is a bunch of edible ingredients dressed up as art) which requires the viewer to eat it as a series of bites and chewin in order to "taste" will ever, EVER be superior to other mediums which facilitate, contemplation, reflection and enlightenment
>he thinks movies (that is a bunch of film clips and CGI dressed up as art) which requires the viewer to observe and listen to a series of scenes and story telling in order to "watch it" will ever, EVER be superior to other mediums which facilitate, contemplation, reflection and enlightenment
Correction. Video Games can be EVERYTHING AND NOTHING.
>he thinks music (that is a bunch of instruments and vocals dressed up as art) which requires the viewer to focus to a series of notes and rhythms in order to "listen" will ever, EVER be superior to other mediums which facilitate, contemplation, reflection and enlightenment
>he thinks books (that is a bunch of paper and ink dressed up as art) which requires the viewer to look at a series of words and punctuation in order to "read" will ever, EVER be superior to other mediums which facilitate, contemplation, reflection and enlightenment
>clearly making an L sound with a possible O followup
>"No"
I hate being a sperg.
I can take a shit on a sidewalk and call it art
Art is meaningless
Most things are art. Punching someone clean in the jaw is an art.
pompous faggots attempting to use games (toys) as political soapboxes has always been a thing
>he thinks painting (that is a bunch of paper and colorful markings dressed up as art) which requires the viewer to look at a series of random strokes of varying pigments in order to "interpret" will ever, EVER be superior to other mediums which facilitate, contemplation, reflection and enlightenment
Art is speculative.
Everything can be art, even a lady shitting on a canvas is considered “art”
Videogames are legally recognised as art, retard.
Doesnt matter if you consider them to be worth calling art, the reason you can enjoy them being as expressive and unkempt as is is because theyre allowed to be classified as works of art, worthy of value and meaning than a toy which only makes it a possible murder simulator, devoid of any meaning or purpose.
Besides, whenever you faggots say "Its not art" you never make a proper definition of "ART" to refute it.
you've got it :D
Rather, using "art" as a measure of quality is meaningless.
more subjective than meaningless
>shitty twitter meme
>shitty opinions
what a shocker
You can call it art but its not recognised as art by the broad populous or government.
Videogames are recognised as works of art by the government and probably many people.
Art doesnt dictate quality
Art means its possible of delivering some kind of good, value, meaning or purpose to those who ingest it.
Someone calling videogames NOT ART are retarded as they literally forget the reason they can have violent games that can possibly tell compelling dramatic and touching narratives through gameplay and design alone is because of the legality.
>japanimation is art
"The limit of organic form (the passive principle of being) is Nature. The limit of rational form (the active principle of production) is Industry. At the intersection of Nature and Industry stands Art."
Why does anyone care if it is or not?
