Cory in the house

Hideo Kojima or David Cage

Toby Fox.
Just kidding. It's DSP.

Myazaki... He adapts Berserk and cuts 80% of the content, just like kubrick adapted shit by cutting everything from his film that remotely explained whats happening onscreen.

Who's only made one bad game, and the rest were excellent?

Eric Chahi is more like the Orson Welles, but I can't think of a better equivalent for Kubrick.

still butthurt about The Shining, eh, Steve?

2001 isn't bad though it's just really fucking boring

I was talking about Eyes Wide Shut, or contestably AI. You don't really dislike 2001, do you?

Eyes wide shut is a great movie though.

I'd say Tak Fuji

This guy is dead, isn't he?

There's very few "so bad it's good" games because the added extra layer of interactivity is always going to add an extensive layer of frustration. Most other bad vidya are Manos Hands of Fate tier where they are just 'So bad you start contemplating suicide" tier.

Big Rigs is one of the few that genuinely qualify.

No, he just realized that gamers didn't deserve the fruits of his genius.

>You don't really dislike 2001, do you?
I do dislike it, the fucking music and the last part with HAL was ruined it for me.

David Cage

Eyes Wide Shut is the best movie he directed and A.I is his magnum opus, pleb.

Hideo Kojima

Hard to say. Suda takes inspirations from him in a big way, but overall Suda is VG David Lynch. No other vg designer leaps up to fill in the Kubrick role as a half-surreal portrayer of dark undercurrents. I can think of no game (besides some Suda's) than analogise to The Shining, Lolita or Eyes Wide Shut.

King is such a loser. Only Roger Ebert ranks higher in "when I was a teen and knew nothing he seemed alright but the more I discovered the more I realised what a joke they are" factor.

Kojima is basically Michael Bay, and occassionally John Carpenter. If Kojima dipped his toes in horror, it would be Carpenteresque.

>and occassionally John Carpenter.
How dare you insult Carpenter.

The Garth Marenghi of games design.

I didn't say he was Carpenter quality. Merely type.

Tarkovsky.

>Eyes Wide Shut above Dr. Strangelove, Clockwork Orange or Full Metal Jacket
If not bait, you must be an interesting guy.

Eyes Wide Shut is a masterpiece though. It's easily his most misunderstood film, even more so than A Clockwork Orange.

>the fucking music
le pleb

We should have a caste system where zoomers are subservient to boomers and doomers. It's fucking unacceptable that they have equal say.

EWS is the most darkly penetrating of Kubrick's entire oeuvre.

Who is the Paul Verhoeven of vidya?

Jesus Christ, I guess I'll need to rewatch it then.

It's up there, but I don't think Kubrick made a single "best film". I prefer not to rank art in general. I think it creates unnecessary competition.

Hard to say. I guess the traits you'd be looking for are anti-corporatist messages and graphic violence. Resident Evil kinda delves into that, but I can't think of any developer who I would equate with Verhoeven.

Dudebro- A Clockwork Orange

Casual Critic- 2001: A Space Odyssey

Entry Level Hipster- Barry Lyndon

Even thought I'm a contrarian, Full Metal Jacket is really fucking good.

what's contrarian about full metal jacket?

The Armond White shoutout demolished my sides though, so good shit.

I was talking about this marvelous post

It's his most accessible movie, so naturally film snobs turn their noses on it. I guess that ironically makes you a contrarian for liking it, even though film shouldn't be judged by standards like that.

Better than

Fez is fucking gay.

Pronto.

Point out where I said "best".

What's "Carpenter type" about Kojima? Kojima is a pretentious fuck, Carpenter is anything but. Same goes for Michael Bay. That claim is retarded, it's comparing two guys who just want to make fun films to someone who believes he's a revolutionary genius and spends half his games on a soapbox.

I can't help but wonder if Eyes Wide Shut took some cues from Blue Velvet. Kubrick said Eraserhead was his favorite film, and allegedly had the cast of The Shining watch it so they would know the kind of film he wanted to make, so he clearly admired David Lynch.

>Anal attention to detail
>Requires you to play 10 times before you can understand anything

Here's your Kubrick

Why do people parrot things they have no idea about

Hunt Down The Freeman

I don't think a developer can have the same autism for details a film director has for the simple reason that shooting the same scene 50 times to just "get it right" is time consuming but doable, redoing the game code or level design of an area 50 times will make your team plot a mutiny.

Nobody. It's embarrassing.

the true patrician choice is paths of glory

Paths of Glory and The Killing are underrated honestly.
