The game also does a bad job in that it does not let us read Edelgard’s church grievance book which was filled with every bad thing the church had done and every grievance she had against the church. Rhea herself eventually feels bad and feels she must repent. She is not innocent.

All of the kingdoms problems are fixable, but it takes the Kingdom not being fucked over by Slithers hard core.

An easy fix would be to just skip ahead a few hundred years, keep 3H references to a minimum and refer to the five year war as just the five year war without going into details. Then give some contrived reason why Fodlan is now just Fodlan again without the Alliance/Kingdom/Empire, and badabing you got yourself a sequel setup where you can visit Dagda and Duscur, and possibly squeeze in some irony by having the unified Fodlan inevitably collapse back into smaller, individually ruled regions again.
You could also do the cool thing where your old game save decides the history of the new game. Say you transfer your old save file where the Alliance won, and old Fodlan would be referred to as the Alliance.

If you do the Black Eagle route and you don't recruit her, they give you a second chance to do so and she have an support with Edelgard where they become sister. They even survive together in the end.
