nah 100%ing does not let you keep your gear, the progression is ethereal and you need to collect artifacts that give a minor boost to utility as progression.

The game is absolute shitshow right now. Your gear is locked per region and + gear only goes up to 15 regions. The map is literally endless. A region is only a couple miles/km long. Aka: gear progression is completely pointless. He really needs to remove the region locked gear or the games gonna die

Play the game for an hour, if you can, and you'll realize how shit the game is.
The world is so fucking empty, don't turn your render distance to full or you'll wish you never bought the game after seeing the empty flatlands.
The enemies are impossible to fight and have broken range, hit you from meters behind.
The gear restriction system is fucking awful, that speaks for itself.
Try it and you'll see how bad it is, I had to force myself to play it

It just doesn't make sense to have progression based entirely on RNG loot drops, where you can spend hours getting nothing or a new player get a weapon that makes you godlike.
And then on top of that, walking over a boundary makes your boat stop working and your gear worthless.

An exploration game that rewards staying in one place grinding and punishes exploration, it's absurd.

Gear that doesn't work if you leave the region you got it in.
The world is one global seed, you spawn somewhere random in it, usually surrounded by monsters well above your power level. No more generating your own world
And this is 6 years after creating an alpha that was actually enjoyable and had none of these issues

I know armor and weapons disperses, I think its a retarded system, but I like the game play that the game offers so I actually dont mind for now.
Also there is armor and weapons that carry over between zones.

As someone who (bravely) does all three of these things, plus go to the gym, plus have interests and hobbies, it doesn't fucking help.
