GOW3 isn't written in a way where Kratos is supposed to ever come to terms with shit. The point was to kill Zeus, because killing Zeus would be satisfying, and it was.

God of War, from the devs own mouths, is a game they made to vent frustration. Their design goal from the start was that you would pick up GOW, maybe you're having a shit day, or something's made you angry, and you just chop up demons with a really satisfying combat system, and a story which does a good job of conveying the scope of your enemies, which makes them more satisfying to kill. And as the series went on it just became more and more "how can we have kratos kill x or y mythological thing next? how can we go bigger? what's an even bigger challenge?"

it was not "How does Kratos feel about ripping out people jugulars?" even fans of god of war said it was silly that 2 and 3 kept trying to make kratos at least a bit sympathetic, before fully embracing in the finale that you don't have to sympathize, he wasn't redeemable at all, he was just extremely driven. you can punch zeus forever until the screen is just blood and thudding noises, because more than guilting the player, the goal is just "you did it, you get to fuck up zeus" with the 'ending' just being 'here's what happens if there are no more gods to control weather and stuff'

I truly miss the PSX era. I really do. Maybe because I was a child but also because you could feel everything had soul back then. The PlayStation was Ken Kutaragi's personal project since the SNES PlayStation days. Even when it failed Kutaragi went on and went to Sony execs to convince them develop the PSX. You can see there is a huge amount of effort from many people to make the console successful. You have Gran Turismo, Ape Escape, Medievil, Wipeout, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and many 3rd party exclusives games like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken... So many good IPS started from that era. They are good games that hold up even today. PSX was a huge project with lots of soul put on it.
Then you have pic related. You can see games are not what matter anymore but third-wave feminism. There is nothing left about that effort devs used to do in order to appeal to the players. Maybe because they don't need it, maybe because nowadays feminism sells way more. It may seem like it's something silly but it matters a lot.

Nobody asked for another GOW. Sony itself didn't even want to make GOW4. Barlog himself said he just refused to back down until they approved his idea and got what he wanted.
