In my experience if you play with people from your region, you'll mostly get solid matches. People with truly shit connections who completely ruin the game are few and far inbetween.

What Woolie is proposing is an unnecessarily, heavy handed solution to a problem that isn't really a big deal for most people. If having less than a few frames of lag is a huge deal for you then get an IP switch or whatever to block people with too much ping.

Mostly it's that once he actually gets to the game he's actually halfway decent at it, and I don't watch streams live. Maybe that's the trick.

A few years ago due to random circumstances I would have to drive to a city 4 hours away every month or so. I'd always leave around 6PM, get there at 10PM, take care of whatever I needed to take care of which was usually helping some family with random shit, then at 11PM I'd have to drive 4 hours back home. There was nothing comfier than those late night drives on a completely silent and empty interstate with super best friend cast playing through my speakers. When I'd get home I'd stop at the 24 hour Mcdonalds and get a bunch of shit food since I'd wait and not eat that day specifically in anticipation, then finally get home and watch whatever best friends playthrough was going on at the time. I remember doing this for MGSV, Life is Strange, XCOM2, NBA2K16. Probably my best memories, which is a bit sad, but still. Now they're all on there own and somehow Matt, the worst SBFP member, has the best solo content. Even then, it's not great. They're all so shit alone, or with friends/gfs. Why did it have to end.

I've heard from FFIX players that his advice to new players is terrible but I can't speak to that personally.

Hollow Knight was infuriating specifically because he was getting backseated by everyone and was told the most overpowered charm setup possible. He immediately optimized himself and then followed explicit directions for hours while harping on about how easy the game is.

While that is true, most games aren't exploration heavy. A significant part of the 'intended' Hollow Knight experience is getting lost or trying to figure out where to go to next. Backseating is especially annoying in these types of games as compared to something like DMC or any more linear campaign based game.
