I want to talk about the game but im not sure how to go on about it. Im noticing that Miriel and Vaike are terrible units I would rather not have on the field, in the same way Tharja steamrolled Chapter 12 by herself, Miriel forced to start the mission again twice because she cant deal with getting hit twice without dying, and Vaike's large hp pool is useless with such little Defense and Resistance. Are there other units I should forget about because they are not worth the hassle of training and giving permanent upgrades on?

Frederick is an experience sink. Most of your characters will be rendered useless once you get the child characters

Honestly Miriel and Vaike were benched almost immediately for me. Outside of that everyone's pretty decent. Nowi is an absolute beast and if you have Chrom marry Olivia, Sumia or FemRobin then Lucina is the best unit in the game. Build that support before ch 10 if you don't want to get Chrom'd

It really isn't. I would say that it's the last game that feels like a "traditional" Fire Emblem game.

But what most people are upset about are the fact that you have the Waifu pairings. The only other time this was done was in Geneology of the Holy War and that resulted in a Second Generation of characters.

In Awakening, the children time travel from the future. It works plotwise...but Fates would later shoehorn it into their own story with pocket dimensions.

The other issue is the fact that you have Casual mode (even though this was the second game to do that).

Anyways, the fact is, this was supposed to be the last Fire Emblem game...and it would go out with a bang...but surprise, surprise, it got VERY popular and here we are with Three Houses!

I played awakening upto chapter 20 or so, then I had to stop
This is a fundamental flaw with all fire emblem games-one unit WILL get so strong that you can just shut your brain off and watch everything stupidly charge that unit and die pitifully. In my classic hard mode playthrough Donnel->Nowi, Henry->Lissa, and Robin->Tharja were simply killing everything to the point that there was no need for strategy and the game became the most braindead experience ever
It doesnt get better because I only got around 4 skills per character and was already halfway through with the game with no effort. Everybody talks about Galeforce, Pavgis. RFK+Lethality, etc but what the fuck is the point if you never have a need to get them in the first place?

Awful map design consisting largely of open fields or poorly designed corridors along with ineffective enemy placement completely wrecks any sense of balance and makes the game fucking boring if you've played just about any SRPG. It's either completely braindead on Normal or Hard or a retarded unfun minmax simulator on the higher difficulties. FE13 is just a bad tactical RPG, that's the core of it. Grinding up characters isn't what makes FE fun in my eyes, but that's what the game facilitates. The story is kind of bad for various reasons but still palatable if you have a taste for shounenshit, the characters are likable, and the MU is a wish fulfillment self insert that people actually connected with (unlike the genuinely awful Kris and Corrin). OST is godlike too. The game could have been great, you can tell a lot of love and effort went into it, but the actual game design didn't get enough of it.
I don't get how you can like RD and not Conquest. The latter game isn't perfect (and is still the worse of the two imo) but they're similar in a lot of ways.

Lucina is even more unstoppable when her mother is Olivia.

Fates does almost everything awakening does but worse except in some stories actually has good map/mission/objective design.

This is what I dont get. I put over 120 hours in Devil Survivor 2 and completed 4 playthroughs, and enjoyed each one. I couldnt stand this game for even 10 hours because any """strategy""" basically involves baiting enemies to die against units they have no chance of even hurting, much less killing
And I have absolutely no idea why this is the case. I guess Fire emblem games arent my thing

In the Black Eagles route you default to siding with the church, but if you meet certain requirements you can join Edelgard instead

You have to have a high enough support with Edelgard. Then during free roam before the mission in the room with Sothis' chair you have to accompany her to he Imperial capital to oversee her crowned emperor as a representative of the church.
After that you play the mission as normal and when Edelgard is captured you have the option to join her instead of the church

She has dialogue if you talk to her with her siblings or Frederick on her map, but that's it.

Awful map design. Too wide open, too limited in objectives and map specific gimmicks
Pair up, reclassing, and the linesr scaling of stats means the best way to play is to have a handful of ubermensch killing everything on the enemy phase
The difficulty levels are poorly done. Hard is too easy and lunatic is too difficult if you insist on playing without breaking the game
Writing is bad far too often. ISIS couldn't handle the huge amount of supports their marry everyone scheme relied upon. The plot suffered badly from the game being rushed, with so much underdeveloped
There is a good game hidden in Awakening that a 11/12 style remake could unearth, but I don't think we will ever see it
