My headcanon is that the Smash Ultimate Link & Zelda are the ones talked about in BotW who defeated Phantom Ganon 10,000 years ago.

If you go back in time to stop Ganon in BotW 2, (which seems highly likely) they’ll probably be major characters. BotW Link will probably get to “infiltrate” and pretend to be the Link of that time and you’ll get to know that Zelda personally, probably making BotW Zelda jealous in the process.

Alternatively, it could be that the Link talked about 10,000 years ago is actually the same Link as in BotW altogether, because he went back in time to work with that Zelda to stop Ganon. Which is a twist already used in Skyward Sword, but I wouldn’t put it past Nintendo.
