It's a cheap as fuck game with horrible design choices to justify laziness, for example the most common compaint, instead of having something like a durability system for weapons and armors, so the player needs to keep exploring for new equipment/repair material, the game pratically fucking deletes your equipment every time you step on a new area.

The game has no basic features every game has, so the dev acts that even things like knowing basic controls and how to resize the ui, etc. are things "the players needs to find by themselves".

The game had some great things going for itself during alpha but all of it was removed in this version, a lot of people are disappointed.

Starbound is still a decent game, better than most Terraria clones, amazing mod community as well, but it has to live being compared with Terraria and that after a long time in development hell and early acess with pissed off a lot of people, the standards were higher back them.

The game's alpha from 2013 was barebones but promising, dev leaves and seldom posts on Twitter with months and even a year between each one only to come back after six year and deliver a beta that is fundamentally worse and stripped down in every regard.

Dev posted a bunch of screenshots of his voxel game at a time when Minecraft was popular and still under active development at Mojang. People said they wanted to buy it, so he put up pre-orders for the alpha version in 2013. People bought it on the assumption that he was going to do sort of what Minecraft did and develop the game actively and release updates every so often.

Instead, the dev basically went silent after a couple of weeks and cut off the alpha pre-orders. He'd post every so often on Twitter that he was still developing the game, but I don't think anyone actually believed him. Six years later, he announces he's putting it on Steam, probably because he needs more money and thinks he can sucker people into buying it.

The beta is unplayable trash compared to the alpha, and everyone is disappointed. The dev is insisting this is the "final release" version and that he's basically done with the game.

When I tested it with my starter gear it had "upgrades 1/16" after I added a pixel, so likely you get a limited amount that just makes your weapon look worse.
Might be different for better gear but I'm not too optimistic, should have let you freely redesign once you have the materials including removing voxels.

i just spent 7 hours grinding through an area to get one fucking artifact and discover the location of 4~5 more
i would have been somewhat okay with that until i realized the grave truth
the level you see in your backpack? yeah that means fuck-all, it's just a tally of the amount of artifact boosts you have
all progression is gear based, not that that wasn't already obvious, but with per-zone gear (even + gear has a limit) what the fuck is the point?

I'd be a little less pissed if leveling actually gave me a small bit of extra hp/damage but THIS IS A FUCKING JOKE LMAO

This. The procedural shit and lore is honestly great. Exploring is fun. The RPG shit is fucking terrible and you could improve it 100 times over if you just removed the region lock on gear. That on its own would fix a lot. Not everything but a lot.

this is called a player skill based progression system and other games do it like monster hunter or terraria, you don't get stronger by killing mobs, you just get stronger items.

Of course, right now the strong items cannot be crafted like it was in MH, or found from bosses, you have to grind random drops that have the + to use them in other areas.

the "stronger items" you mention are, from what ive seen of them so far, literally just luxury boosts, more quality of life than actually contributing to your character's growth
and like another user mentioned, even + gear has its limits
if i wanted to play MH i'd go play MH. at least that doesn't reset my fucking progression at every new area and give me nothing to show for my past experiences

the + items are only good for the region and each region surrounding it. If you go 2 regions out, they go back to being level 0 again

yes that's a valid type of progression, see any rogue lite
you don't get straight improvements to your stats, you get more QoL boosts so that you can do the next region easier, it's a sort of meta progression in which you depend on your skills as a player to beat an area instead of the overpowered items from the previous area.

keep in mind in monster hunter you can still beat hard monsters even with shitty gear, it'll just take super long and you must be highly skillful to not not get hit.

this is probably bait and i am wasting my breath trying to be polite to a troll, but by putting something out to the public, you need to accept that people are entitled to their own opinions.
The way people word their opinion here is pretty crude and unfriendly, but forcing people to be polite doesn't change the fact that a lot of people are very unpleased about the current state of the game and allowed to be so.
Anyone doing art of any kind, music, videos, pictures needs to be faced to deal with this kind of backlash if he wants to make his work public.
Constantly being faced with critique is really draining and every person deserves to have his own save space to retreat to, but Steam and other online forums are no save spaces, they are public places.

Not him and I could accept this but it doesn't work currently in Cube World since you can easily get orange gear within hours of starting a zone. I played with a friend as the game released, and literal minutes after we found our first blue item and were all happy about that, we found a purple one. An hour after that we had gotten several orange weapons each and were easily kiting 30k hp bosses. We just decided that it's probably unusual behavior/bugged but then we got done playing and I came on here. Hope Wollay just tears this exp-less/gear reset system out and puts the alpha one back in. It had issues but this is stupid
